Central Excise Day

On 24th February every year, the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) celebrates the Central Excise Day across the country. The day aims to honour the contribution of the Central Board of Excise and Custom to India's economy. Additionally, the Central Excise Board being a primary tax collection agency for the Central Government, the day also recognizes and acknowledges the hard work put in by the officers of CBCE and encourages them to carry out their duty with utmost sincerity. Furthermore, the day is also observed to check corruption in goods manufacturing business as well as implement other rules to carry out the best possible excise services.
To mark the occasions, the Central Board of Excise and Customs conducts a host of activities across the country including seminars, workshops, educational and cultural events, awareness programs, competitions, and award ceremonies. Additionally, the board also holds a series of awareness programmes to help the public understand the roles and responsibilities of CBCE and its officers.
The Central Excise Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the Central Excise and Salt Act, which was enacted on 24 February 1944.

Khajuraho Dance Festival 2021

The 47th Khajuraho Dance Festival began in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh in February 2021.
The week-long festival has been organised by the Culture Department through its Ustad Alauddin Khan Music and Arts Academy Bhopal and will culminate on February 26, 2021.
For the first time in 44 years, the Khajuraho Dance Festival is being held in the World Heritage temple group premises.
The Khajuraho Dance Festival is an internationally acclaimed cultural event, hosted each year since 1975, at the magnificent city of Khajuraho located in the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh.

Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav

Darjeeling in West Bengal is hosting the three-day Rashtriya Sankriti Mahotsav. The event will continue till February 24. It is organized to promote the diversity of the country, and the spirit of 'Ek Bharat Sreshtha Bharat'.
The second phase of the Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav will be inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel at Darjeeling Raj Bhavan. Jagdeep Dhankhar, the governor of West Bengal, will attend the closing ceremony of the event.
The event will give centre stage and opportunity to local artists to present their talent including 20 stalls that will showcase the handcraft culture of different regions of India.

World Thinking Day

World Thinking Day, formerly Thinking Day, is celebrated annually on 22nd February by all Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. It is also celebrated by Scout and Guide organizations around the world. It is a day when they think about their "sisters" (and "brothers") in all the countries of the world, the meaning of Guiding, and its global impact.
In 1926, at the Fourth Girl Scout International Conference, held at Girl Scouts of the United States's Camp Edith Macy (presently the Edith Macy Conference Center), the conference delegates highlighted the need for a special international day when Girl Guides and Girl Scouts would think about the worldwide spread of Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting, and of all the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world, giving them, their "sisters," thanks and appreciation.
It was decided by the delegates that this day would be 22nd February, the birthday of both Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scout movement, and Lady Olave Baden-Powell, his wife and the First World Chief Guide.
In 1999, at the 30th World Conference, held in Ireland, the name was changed from "Thinking Day" to "World Thinking Day", to emphasize the global aspect of this special day.

PM Inaugurates Pugalur-Thrissur HVDC Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated POWERGRID's 320 kV 2000 MW Pugalur- Thrissur High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) project.
The event was held over videoconference.
Union Minister of State for Power, New and Renewable Energy and Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship R. K. Singh, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and senior officials of the Union Ministry of Power and the Department of Power in the State, and POWERGRID officials attended the function.
The Pugalur-Thrissur HVDC system that cost Rs. 5,070 crore, is part of the Raigarh-Pugalur-Thrissur 6,000 MW HVDC system and enables transfer of 2,000 MW to Kerala through the HVDC station at Madakkathara, Thrissur.

11th India-EU Macroeconomic Dialogue

The 11th India-EU Macroeconomic dialogue was held today through video conferencing. Secretary of Economic Affairs Tarun Bajaj led the Indian delegation.
The delegation from the European Union was led by Director General of Economic and Financial Affairs ECFIN in European Commission Maarten Verwey. The Indian delegation included representatives from Department of Economic Affairs, Department of Revenue and Ministry of External Affairs.
The dialogue covered sharing of their experiences to enable both sides on various aspects including collaboration in the G20 on finance track matters, including through G20 Framework Working Group deliverables, G20 Action plan, debt related issues and international taxation of digital economy. Fiscal policy response and medium-term fiscal strategy including financial or structural reforms priorities were also discussed.

Taj Mahotsav Agra

Taj Mahotsav is being celebrated successfully since 1992 in Agra in the month of February for ten days, from 18th February to 27th February.
Organized by the Department of Tourism, Government of India, Taj Mahotsav is mainly dedicated to the promotion of country's rich art and craft, culture, cuisine, dance and music.
In fact, it serves as an acknowledgment to the craftsmen as well as the exponents of art, music and cuisine from all over the country.

International Mother Language Day

International Mother Language Day is a worldwide annual observance held on 21 February to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism.
First announced by UNESCO on 17 November 1999, it was formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly with the adoption of UN resolution 56/262 in 2002.
Mother Language Day is part of a broader initiative "to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by peoples of the world" as adopted by the UN General Assembly on 16 May 2007 in UN resolution 61/266, which also established 2008 as the International Year of Languages.

World Day of Social Justice

World Day of Social Justice (Social Justice Equality Day) is an international day recognizing the need to promote social justice, which includes efforts to tackle issues such as poverty, exclusion, gender equality, unemployment, human rights, and social protections.
Many organizations, including the UN, American Library Association (ALA), and the International Labour Organization, make statements on the importance of social justice for people.
Many organizations also present plans for greater social justice by tackling poverty, social and economic exclusion and unemployment. The United Nations General Assembly has decided to observe 20 February annually, approved on 26 November 2007 and starting in 2009, as the World Day of Social Justice.

VP, PM, I&B Minister Pay Rich Tributes to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his Birth Anniversary

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his birth anniversary today. Mr. Naidu said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a legendary Maratha warrior king and was a devout patriot, outstanding administrator, exceptional strategist and a benevolent ruler. Mr. Naidu said that his heroic life continues to inspire every Indian.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tributes to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion of his Birth Anniversary today. Remembering Chhatrapati Shivaji as an immortal son of Mother India, Mr. Modi said that the saga of indomitable courage, valour and intelligence of the great Maratha ruler will keep inspiring countrymen for ages.

India to host meet with SAARC countries

India will host a secretary-level virtual meeting on Covid-19 management with South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries.
Government sources said that nine SAARC nations, including Pakistan, will participate in the workshop on 'COVID-19 Management: Experience, Good Practices and Way Forward' that will be chaired by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan.
