India-Germany Maritime Partnership Exercise

Defence Ministry Signs Contract with Firm to Procure 6 Air Cushion Vehicles

  • The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Chowgule & Company Pvt. Ltd., Goa for procurement of six Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs) for the Indian Coast Guard at a total cost of Rs. 387.44 crore. These amphibious vessels, also called 'Hovercrafts', will be procured under the Buy (Indian) category.
  • These ACVs will be manufactured in India for the "first time in line with the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision of the government, representing a pivotal step in the nation's shipping landscape.

Swavlamban 2024: Advancing Naval Innovation and Indigenisation

  • The Curtain Raiser Press Conference for Swavlamban 2024, the third edition of the Indian Navy's Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO) Seminar, took place in New Delhi on October 22, 2024. India Launches Fourth Nuclear Powered Submarine S4 (Star)

  • India's fourth nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN), referred to as S4 (Star), was launched into water at the Ship Building Centre in Visakhapatnam. This submarine is bigger and more capable than the first, INS Arihant (S2), which is essentially a technology demonstrator developed under the Advanced Technology Vessel programme.

  • Anil Ambani led Reliance Infrastructure announced the setting up of India's largest Integrated project for the manufacturing of explosives, ammunition and small arms in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. The company will invest over Rs. 10,000 crore over the next 10 years.
  • Reliance Infrastructure has been allotted 1000 acres of Land in Watad Industrial Area of Ratnagiri, Maharashtra to develop Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City (DADC).
  • DADC will be the largest Greenfield project in the Defence Sector in India by any Private Sector company.
  • Reliance Infrastructure's wholly owned subsidiaries Jai Armaments Limited and Reliance Defence Limited already have license from the government of India for the manufacturing of arms and ammunition.
