Saudi Arabia and Iran Conduct Joint Naval Exercises
Saudi Arabia conducted joint naval exercises with Iran in the Sea of Oman. This event marked an important shift in relations between the two countries. Historically, Saudi Arabia and Iran have been rivals, often supporting opposing factions in regional conflicts. Their diplomatic ties were severed in 2016. However, a surprising agreement brokered by China last year (2023) led to a resumption of relations.
The joint naval exercises involved the Royal Saudi Naval Forces and the Iranian Naval Forces. These exercises took place in the Sea of Oman and included participation from other countries. The exercises signify a notable step towards military cooperation between the two former adversaries.
