Goa Shipyard Launches First Indigenous P1135.6 Frigate 'Triput'
In a significant achievement for India's naval capabilities and the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative, Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) successfully launched the first indigenous P1135.6 Frigate, named Triput. This marks the first time these vessels are being constructed indigenously in India.
The ship was launched by Adv. Rita Sreedharan, with Goa Governor P. S. Sreedharan Pillai as the Chief Guest.
The 124-meter-long ship can reach speeds of 28 knots at a displacement of approximately 3200 tonnes and is equipped with advanced state-of-the-art weaponry and sensors. The frigate features indigenous components, including specialised low-carbon micro-alloy grade steel for the hull and various systems developed by private industry.

Captain Supreetha embarked on her military career by joining the Indian Army as a Lieutenant in 2021. Her initial posting was in the Army Air Defence, following comprehensive training in Chennai.

Turkey Imposes a Ban on Defence Exports to India
Turkey banned the export of military products to India. Mustafa Murat Sekar, a Turkish defense official, announced this in a meeting. The ban is due to Turkey's friendship with Pakistan, as India has been opposing Turkey's support for Pakistan in the Kashmir issue on international platforms.

Haryana Announces 10% Job Quota, R. 60,000 Subsidy for Agniveers
The Haryana government announced a 10 per cent quota for Agniveers in posts of constable, mining guard, forest guard, jail warden and special police officer. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also said that the government will offer a subsidy of Rs. 60,000 per annum to the industrial unit that pays an Agniveer a salary of Rs. 30,000 per month.
The Haryana government promised an age relaxation of 3 years in the maximum age prescribed for government posts in Groups B and C for Agniveers.
In the case of the first batch of Agniveers, this age relaxation will be 5 years.
The Haryana government will provide 5 per cent horizontal reservation for Agniveers in direct recruitment to civil posts in Group C and 1 per cent horizontal reservation in Group B.
India Releases Fresh 'Positive Indigenisation List' to Boost Domestic Defence Manufacturing
India announced a fresh list of 346 military hardware items that will only be procured from state-run domestic manufacturers after a ban on their import kicks in under a staggered timeline. This is part of a broader initiative to boost domestic defence industries and reduce import dependence.
Over 12,300 items have been indigenised in the past three years.
The indigenisation of these 346 items is worth Rs. 1,048 crore.
The items will be produced by Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) through various routes, including in-house development.
The initiative aims to enhance investment in defence and reduce import dependence.

Mamata Banerjee Reinstates Senior IPS Officer Rajeev Kumar as West Bengal DGP
The West Bengal government reinstated senior IPS officer Rajeev Kumar as the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal. Kumar replaced Sanjoy Mukherjee, who was appointed the State's DGP at the directions of the Election Commission of India during the concluded Lok Sabha polls.
Mr. Kumar will continue to hold his current post of Additional Chief Secretary in the Department of Information Technology and Electronics. Mr. Mukherjee was appointed as the new Director General of the State's Fire and Emergency Services.
Navy Announces Latest Edition of THINQ, Theme for 2024 Contest 'Viksit Bharat'
The Indian Navy announced the latest edition of its national level quiz competition, THINQ, with the theme for the contest this year (2024) being 'Viksit Bharat'. The event provides a unique opportunity of nurturing intellectual growth and inspiring young minds while instilling a sense of pride and patriotism in our rich cultural heritage.
The resounding success of the first two editions, i.e., THINQ-22 and G20 THINQ (which saw participation of G20 countries last year), has encouraged Indian Navy to continue with the initiative.
This competition goes beyond the concept of just testing general awareness of students. It is a forum to ignite young minds and spread awareness among students on their role in nation-building and reaching greater heights.
The contest is open to all students from class 9 to 12 across the country.
