Lorenzo Sanz: Former Real Madrid President Dies After Contracting Coronavirus

Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz died after being taken to hospital with coronavirus.
Sanz, 76, was president at the Bernabeu from 1995-2000, a period in which Real won the Champions League twice.
Sanz signed players such as Roberto Carlos, Clarence Seedorf and Davor Suker during his time in charge of the 33-time Spanish champions,
He lost the 2000 presidential election to Florentino Perez, which sparked Real's big-spending 'Galatico' era.
Sanz's son Fernando, 46, played for Real Madrid from 1996-1999 before spending the final seven years of his career at Malaga.

Canada Pulls Out Of 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Over Coronavirus Fears

Team Canada have called on the International Olmypic Committee [IOC] to postpone this summer's Olympic Games after confirming they will not send any athletes to Tokyo in 2020 due to the risks posed by the coronvairus pandemic.
Tokyo officials confirmed that they will make a decision on whether the Games will go ahead in the next four weeks but as yet, they have not yet postponed the event which begins on July 24th. That means a decision in late April but Team Canada are taking no risks and they have announced that they will not participate should the Games go ahead.

Greece Hands over Olympic Flame to Tokyo 2020 Organisers

Greece handed over the Olympic flame to Tokyo 2020 organisers at a ceremony held behind closed doors amid calls for the Olympics to be postponed over the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the absence of spectators, Olympic gymnastics champion Lefteris Petrounias ran a lap with the flame and Olympic pole vault champion Katerina Stefanidi lit a cauldron inside the all-marble Panathenaic stadium, where the first modern Olympics were held in 1896.
The flame was then handed to Tokyo 2020 representative Naoko Imoto, a swimmer who competed in the Atlanta 1996 Olympics. Imoto, a UNICEF representative, was reportedly a last-minute appointment as she already lives in Greece and did not have to travel from Japan.

New Zealand All-rounder Andrew Malcolm Ellis Announces Retirement

New Zealand (NZ) all-rounder Andrew Malcolm Ellis announced his retirement from Canterbury cricket after 18 years of his career.
After Ross Taylor he became the 2nd player in NZ to play over 100 games in each format.
He is the only player to be named as Men's Domestic Player of the Year twice by NZ National Cricket Team, in the 2014-15 and 2016-17 seasons.
The highlight of his career was the 2016-17 season, as he raised the Plunket Shield and The Ford Trophy in his first year as captain.
He finished his career with 9366 runs and 548 wickets.

Indian Umpires Janani Narayanan, and Vrinda Rathi in ICC Panel

The number of women match officials across different International Cricket Council (ICC) panels has gone up to 12 after India's Janani Narayanan and Vrinda Rathi were added in the international panel of ICC Development Umpires.
The announcement came after the launch of 100% Cricket, a 12-month campaign anticipated to build on the momentum of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020.

Ex-champion and Trainer Roger Mayweather Dies

Roger Mayweather, a two-time world champion turned trainer and uncle of unbeaten boxing great Floyd Mayweather, died at the age of 58.
Roger Mayweather, who had struggled with diabetes, won world titles at super featherweight and super lightweight, earning 59 wins in a near-20-year ring career that included notable fights against Julio Cesar Chavez and Pernell Whitaker.

First Global Postponement: Euro 20 Now Euro 21

The Euro 2020 championship, trumpeted as a feast of football to mark UEFA's 60th anniversary, was postponed for a year as the coronavirus pandemic claimed its biggest sporting casualty yet.
The fate of the 24-nation, month-long showpiece due to start in June had hung in the balance ever since Europe's domestic leagues began shutting down in the wake of the sweeping health crisis.
Europe's flagship tournament, second only to FIFA's World Cup in terms of prestige, will now be staged from June 11 to July 12, 2021.
This year's Copa America, too, has been postponed until 2021, according to the South American Football Confederation . The 12-team tournament, which had originally been scheduled to take place from June 12 to July 12 in Colombia and Argentina, would be played between June 11 and July 11, 2021.

ATK FC Wins ISL Trophy for the Third Time

ATK FC (Football Club) won the ISL (Indian Super League) trophy for the 3rd time following a 3-1 win against Chennaiyin FC in the final match held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Margao, Goa.
