Official Mascots Of 19th Asian Games Unveiled In Hangzhou, China

The official mascots of the 19th Asian Games were unveiled at a digital launch ceremony in Hangzhou, China yesterday. The three robots, which are going to be the mascots for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games are collectively known as the smart triplets.
The Mascots - Congcong, Lianlian and Chenchen, which reflect the internet prowess of Hangzhou city and Zhejiang province, were unveiled at a digital ceremony in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that has brought the whole world to a stand still.

China To Host Asian Youth Games In 2021

China, the epicenter of COVID-19 pandemic, will host the third edition of Asian Youth Games from November 20 to 28, 2021. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced this decision in a letter to all the Asians member nations on April 3, 2020.
The OCA informed that the decision regarding the dates and the venue was taken in coordination with the Shantou 3rd Asian Youth Games Organising Committee (SAYGOC).

Postponed Tokyo Olympics To Open 23 July Next Year

The Tokyo Olympics will begin on July 23 next year after the coronavirus forced the historic decision to postpone the Games until 2021.
"The Olympics will be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021. The Paralympics will be held from August 24 to September 5," Tokyo 2020 chief Yoshiro Mori told.

ITTF Suspends All Events Till June 30, Freezes World Rankings

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has suspended all planned events till June 30, 2020 and froze the world rankings due to the upheaval caused by the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic.
The ITTF Executive Committee met to discuss the effects of the coronavirus outbreak on the international table tennis events schedule.
Due to the continued uncertainty caused by Covid-19 pandemic and postponement of 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, the ITTF Executive Committee reached the following decisions: Suspension of all currently planned ITTF events and activities that involve international travel until 30 June 2020.

India's Olympic-Bound Boxers To Be Provided Online Classes Amid Coronavirus Lockdown

India's Olympic-bound boxers will be provided online classes by their coaches after training halted by the coronavirus-forced national lockdown. Nine Indian boxers M C Mary Kom, Simranjit Kaur, Lovlina Borgohani, Pooja Rani, Amit Panghal, Manish Kaushik, Vikas Krishan, Ashish Kumar and Satish Kumar have qualified for the Tokyo Games, postponed to 2021 due to the global pandemic.
The classes for women will be conducted by their high performance director Rafaelle Bergamasco.

Tokyo Olympic Torch Relay Cancelled Following Postponement Of Games

The Japan leg of the Tokyo Olympic torch relay, scheduled to begin March 26, 2020, has been canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak, Yoshiro Mori, president of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee.
The move comes after Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach agreed to postpone the games by roughly one year during a telephone conference.
"We will not start the torch relay, while we will discuss countermeasures," Mori told a press conference in Tokyo. "In response to the postponement of the Olympics, we will draw a new plan for the relay."
The IOC said in a statement that the Olympic flame will remain in Japan.
The torch relay was scheduled to start in Fukushima Prefecture, northeastern Japan, before traveling to all 47 prefectures in the country. Mori said a new schedule would be determined at a later date.

Tokyo 2020 Olympics Are Postponed Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic has hit the biggest sporting event in the world — the Summer Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee postponed the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, officials announced Tuesday. The event was scheduled to start July 24 in Tokyo.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said he and the head of the International Olympic Committee agreed to delay the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo for about a year. The games, which had been scheduled to end Aug. 9, will take place "no later than summer 2021," the IOC said. The Paralympic Games had been scheduled for Aug. 25 to Sept. 6.
