Amit Panghal Earns Olympic Quota

Amit Panghal defeated Philippines' Paalam Carlo in 52 kg quarterfinal match to earn himself an Olympic quota. The World Championship silver medalist Amit, fighting in the right corner, defeated his opponent via a 4-1 split decision. He lost the first round via a split 3-2 decision from the judges, but won the next two rounds via a 4-1 split decision to win the bout.
Panghal had earlier beaten him in the semifinals of the 2018 Asian Games and the quarterfinals of the 2019 world championships. He will next face Hu Jianguan of China in the semis.

Wasim Jaffer, Test Opener and Domestic King Retires

Former India opener and domestic cricket giant, Wasim Jaffer, announced his retirement from all cricket. The 42-year-old was part of 10 Ranji Trophy-winning sides, eight with Mumbai and the last two with Vidarbha.
Jaffer played 31 Tests between 2000 and 2008—he made his debut against South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium in 2000—scoring 1,944 runs at an average of 34.01 with five centuries and 11 half-centuries. Jaffer, known for his resolve and stylish drives and flicks, hit his highest Test score of 212 against West Indies at St John's, Antigua in 2006. The same year Jaffer played both his ODIs, against South Africa. He also scored a superb 202 against Pakistan at Kolkata in November 2007.
Jaffer became the first cricketer to play 150 Ranji matches in December 2019, and the only Ranji batsman to complete the 12,000-run mark two months later. Of his record Ranji aggregate, 1,037 runs in 15 innings at 69.13 came for Vidarbha in their victorious 2018-19 campaign, thus becoming the only batsman to score 1,000 plus runs in two seasons, the previous effort having come in 2008-09.

Australia Beat India to Win 5th Women's T20 World Cup

Australia bowled India out for 99 runs to clinch the final by 85 runs for a record-extending fifth Women's T20 World Cup title at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Chasing a huge total of 185, India got off to a poor start and lost four wickets inside the powerplay overs. India could never recover from the early blows and were bowled out for 99 runs in 19.1 overs. Earlier, Australia riding on half-centuries from openers Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney posted a massive total on the board. Healy blasted 75 off 39 balls, while Mooney scored an unbeaten 78. Healy, whose husband Mitchell Starc jetted back from Australia's tour of South Africa to watch her play, showed intent straight away with a boundary off Deepti Sharma's first ball. She smacked two more in an eventful opening over which also saw her dropped by Shafali Verma. Opening partner Mooney also had an early let-off, with Rajashwari Gayakwad putting down a caught and bowled chance when she was on eight. India was nervous and their fielding poor, with the batswomen running quick singles. Skipper Meg Lanning was caught for 16, Ashleigh Gardner lasted just three balls and Rachael Haynes made only four. But the late fightback wasn't enough to prevent Australia posting the highest score ever in a women's T20 World Cup final.

Badminton Asia Championships 2020 Shifted to Manila from Wuhan

Badminton Asia confirmed that Badminton World Federation (BWF) shifted the Badminton Asia Championships 2020 to Manila, Philippines from Wuhan, China. It will be conducted in Manila from April 21 to 26, 2020.
The Badminton Asia Championship 2020 event was shifted due to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and this championship falls within the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Qualification window.
The Philippine Badminton Association (PBA) had successfully hosted the Asia Team Championships from Feb 11-16 2020, in Manila.

Kieron Pollard First Cricketer to Play 500 T20s

West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard became the first player in the history of T20 cricket to feature in 500 matches when he took the field against Sri Lanka for the first T20I in March 2020.
Pollard was congratulated by his team-mates on his landmark day before the start of the T20I and was also presented with a special jersey to mark the occasion.
The jersey had the all-rounder's name at the back along with the number 500.
Dwayne Bravo is second in the list with 453 matches under his belt so far.
Chris Gayle is at the third spot in the list as he has featured in 404 T20 matches.

Shafali Verma Creates History by Becoming World's No.1 Batsman at the Age of 16

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20I (Twenty-twenty International) rankings 2020 for women players, the 16-year-old Indian opener Shafali Verma climbed 19 places to reach the top with 761 points. She replaced New Zealand's Suzie Bates down a notch, who now has 750 points.
Among the top-10 batsmen, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodriques lost 2 places & reached 6th and 9th position respectively.
Shefali has scored 161 runs in 4 matches of the current T20 World Cup.She is the second Indian batsman after former captain Mithali Raj to top the ICC T20 women's T20I batting list.
Among bowlers, England's Sophie Ecclestone reached first place.

Japan May Postpone Tokyo Olympics

Japan's Olympics minister Seiko Hashimoto acknowledged in the country's Parliament that Tokyo's contract with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) would allow for a postponement of the Olympic Games until the end of the year following the threat of coronavirus which has killed over 3,100 people and has spread to 75 countries.
The IOC also kicked off a crucial executive board meeting to discuss the threat of the coronavirus to this summer's Tokyo Olympics, with president Thomas Bach pledging success.

FIH World Rankings 2020

Fédération Internationale de Hockey or International Hockey Federation (FIH) World Rankings 2020, ranked Indian Hockey men's team 4^th with 2064.14 points for the 1st time and Women's team is ranked 9^th with 1543 points. The men's list is topped by Belgium for the first time with 2481.34 & women's list is topped by the Netherlands with 2626.03 points.
Indian Men's team's excellent performance in the 1^st 3 rounds of the 2^nd edition of FIH Hockey Pro League paved the way for them to move from 5^th spot to 4^th spot. This is the highest ranking position since the formation of FIH rankings in 2003.
Indian Men's team rise comes from the drop of Olympics champions Argentina to 5^th place.
