FIFA Cancels Women Under-17 World Cup

  • FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) cancelled the Women Under-17 World Cup due to COVID-19 pandemic. It has been postponed to 2021. The 2020 FIFA Women Under-17 World Cup was to be held in India.
  • Under-17 and Under-20 women's World Cup were to be held in India. This has been cancelled and the country has been awarded to host the 2022 cup.
  • FIFA announced that Costa Rica will host the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup 2022 and India will host FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup 2022.

Munaf Patel Joins Kandy Tuskers in LPL

  • Former India pacer Munaf Patel has been roped in by Kandy Tuskers for the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) scheduled to begin on November 26.
  • Patel, who has played 13 Test matches, 70 ODIs and three T20Is, was a part of India's 2011 World Cup-winning team. He will pair up with former India teammate Irfan Pathan in the tournament.

ICC and CGF Unveil Qualifying Process for Women's Cricket Event in 2022 CWG

  • Six highest-placed teams in the ICC rankings as on April 1 next year (2021) along with host England will get direct qualification to the 2022 Commonwealth Games' women's T20 competition, which will make its debut at the quadrennial showpiece in Birmingham.
  • Women's cricket will be a part of the Commonwealth Games for the first time ever when the 2022 edition gets underway in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8. The ICC and the Commonwealth Games Federation unveiled the qualification process for the event.

MPL Sports India's New Kit Sponsor

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Mobile Premier League's sports merchandise brand MPL Sports as the Indian cricket team's official kit sponsor for a three-year period.
  • As part of a three-year deal, MPL Sports designed and manufactured jerseys will be worn by men's, women's and the Under-19 Indian cricket teams until 2023.
  • The agreement will run from this November to December 2023, replacing sportswear giant Nike whose five-year extension signed in 2016 ended this year.

Pakistan Super League

  • Babar Azam scored a brilliant half-century to help Karachi Kings defeat Lahore Qalandars by five wickets in the final of Pakistan Super League. 
  • Azam's 63 not out off 49 balls guided Karachi to lift their maiden PSL title.
  • Azam performed superbly throughout the tournament to finish on top of the run-scorer chart with 473 runs.

Aryan Sabalenka Wins Linz Title

  • Aryna Sabalenka won the Linz Open. The 22-year old Belarusian traded places with Serena Williams who has dropped to 11th in ranking. Serena has not played since French Open due to her achilles injury.
  • Sabalenka has been ranked at number 9 in singles and number 2 in doubles by the Women Tennis Association. Sabalenka won her first Grand Slam at the 2019 US Open. In all she has won twelve Women Tennis Association (WTA) titles.
  • Linz Open is played in hardcourts. It is sponsored by Generali Gruppe. It is usually held in Linz, Austria. Since 2009, it is designated as WTA International Tournament.

Argentina Beat New Zealand for First Time

  • Argentina beat New Zealand for the first time in their history with a 25-15 win in the Rugby Championship.
  • The match was Argentina's first Test in 13 months, and their victory ensured the All Blacks suffered a second defeat in a row, after losing to Australia.
  • The Pumas led 16-3 at the break and kept New Zealand at bay to secure a famous and shock win in Sydney.
