IAA India and UNICEF Come Together to Promote Equal Gender Representation in Advertising

UNICEF and India Chapter of International Advertising Association (IAA) have entered into a partnership to support research on gender representation in advertisements in India based on evidence and real-time validation.
This is based on the understanding that marketing plays a powerful role in shaping gender roles and perceptions and advertising is an important tool that can influence women and girls' empowerment.
The changing and evolving landscape of advertisements has a huge potential to promote gender equitable practices especially among young people.

Nagaland Launches Handbook on "TB Harega, Desh Jeetega"

In line with the government's commitment to end Tuberculosis by 2025 in the country, Nagaland Minister for Health and Family Welfare , Mr. S. Pangnyu Phom launched a handbook on "TB Harega, Desh Jeetega" .
Launching the handbook, Mr. Phom said, the National TB Elimination Programme, NTEP Nagaland is committed to reduce TB burden in terms of incidence, prevalence, morbidity and mortality to make the state free from tuberculosis.
The main purpose of this handbook, is to proactively engage more elected representatives such as MLAs, members of Zila Parishad, VDB members and Gram Panchayat or Gram Sabha to help address social stigma as well as to promote advocacy and community involvement in TB programme.

India ranks 94/107 in Global Hunger Index

India ranked 94 among 107 nations in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2020 and is in the serious hunger category with experts blaming poor implementation processes and lack of effective monitoring in tackling malnutrition and poor performance by large states behind the low ranking.
According to the report, 14% of India's population is undernourished. It also showed the country recorded a 37.4% stunting rate among children under five and a wasting rate of 17.3%. The under-five mortality rate stood at 3.7%.
The Global Hunger Index is a tool for comprehensively measuring and tracking hunger at global, regional, and national levels.

DRL Gets DCGI's Nod to Conduct COVID-19 Vaccine Phase 2/3 Human Trials

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. and Russian Direct Investment Fund, Russia's sovereign wealth fund, received approval from the Drug Control General of India to conduct an adaptive Phases 2/3 human clinical trial for Sputnik V vaccine in India.
As per the the city-based drug maker this will be a multi-centre and randomised controlled study, which will include safety and immunogenicity study.
Earlier in September 2020, Dr. Reddys and RDIF entered into a partnership to conduct clinical trials of Sputnik V vaccine and its distribution in India.
As part of the partnership, RDIF shall supply 100 million doses of the vaccine to Dr. Reddy's upon regulatory approval in India.

India to Become Free of Trans Fat by 2022

The Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan announced that India has set a target of becoming trans-fat free by 2022. This target is year ahead of the target of World Health Organisation. The announcement was made when the Minister presided over an event organised by the food safety and Standards Authority of India. The World Food Day is celebrated by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation every year.
The Eat Right Movement of Food Safety and Standard Authority of India aims to promote safe and healthy food. This movement along with "Eat Right India" and "Fit India Movement" will act as a game changer in shifting India's diet focus towards nutritious food. Also, the other schemes such as Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan will improve the health of the Indian citizens.
Alongside the World Food Day celebrations, the Minister also launched the "Eat Smart City" challenge of FSSAI. The challenge is to be conducted in partnership with the Smart City mission. It aims to create right food habits in cities of India.
The FSSAI is committed in reducing the production of Trans fats to less than 2% by 2022.

Israel Launches PhD Sandwich Programme

The Council for Higher Education, Israel launched a scholarship programme for international PhD students to study in Israel for a duration of up to one year as part of the doctoral studies – a 'PhD sandwich program'. Under the initiative, international PhD candidates will get the opportunity to further their doctoral research through a unique academic experience in Israel, while collaborating with leading scholars and scientists.
Selected students will get an annual scholarship of 80,000 NIS per year (Rs. 17 Lakh approx). If a scholarship recipient is in Israel for less than one year, the scholarship amount will be determined based on the actual time the scholarship recipient studied in Israel. Scholarships will not be awarded to doctoral students who spend less than three months at the host university, as per the rules.
Through this initiative, Israel seeks to attract top young recent PhD graduates to take on a postdoctoral position with leading scientists and scholars in Israel on cutting-edge research in all fields of science, social science and humanities.

Ramesh Pokhriyal Inaugurates International Visitors' Accommodation at IIT Kharagpur

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, inaugurated the new International Visitors' Accommodation at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur during a virtual event.
The Institute is looking forward to hosting nearly 100 international faculty members for short-term and long-term teaching besides for Research and Development.
Ramesh Pokhriyal also laid the foundation stones for two new halls of residence for students during the occasion.
The APJ Abdul Kalam International Visitors Residential Complex features fully-furnished studio apartments with modern amenities intended for full-time and part-time international faculty.

Rashtriya Raksha Varsity Organises Programme on Border Management

The Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) organised a four-day faculty cum professional development programme on 'border management and Intelligence'.
RRU's Centre for Border Management and Intelligence (CBMI), under the aegis of School of Internal Security and Police Administration (SISPA) organised the programme.
Sessions organised during the programme focused on areas related to strengthening India's border security and was attended by 65 participants from India and abroad, representatives of various security forces and agencies, members of numerous police forces, academicians, and scholars among others.

India among 3 Countries Having Largest Share of Global TB Burden

India is one of the three countries bearing the largest share of the global burden of Tuberculosis (TB) cases along with China and the Russian Federation, revealed the Global TB report released by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The report also said that in India, Indonesia, the Philippines and South Africa, four countries that account for 44% of global TB cases, there were large drops in the reported number of people diagnosed with TB between January and June 2020.

Union Cabinet Approves World Bank Project STARS

Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the project STARS aided by the World bank.
The cabinet has approved Rs. 5,718 crores of aid from World Bank to implement project STARS. STARS is Strengthening Teaching Learning and Resources for States.
The project is to be implemented by department of school education and literacy operating under Ministry of Education. The project will also setup and support the PRAKH, the national assessment centre.
The project will cover Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Kerala. The focus and components of the project is aligned with national education policy 2020.
Project will improve overall monitoring of Indian school education system. It will shift the focus towards maintaining of outputs by Linking the disbursement of funds.

Six Haryana Universities Agree to Try Flexi-exam System

Haryana is aiming to experiment with the flexi-examination system in its state universities, and at least six state universities have given their consent to the state's higher education council to try the new system.
Under this system, a student may appear in any subject at any point in time and for that examination may be conducted by offering a question or setting up question paper from question bank etc.
The six universities that came forward for initially trying this system as a pilot project in select subjects/departments/ courses and based on the learning to expand it further include Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani; Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, Jind; Guru Jambeshwar Science and Technology University, Hisar; Dr. BR Ambedkar National Law University, Sonipat, Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, Palwal and JC Bose University of Science and Technology, Faridabad.
