OP Jindal University Gets Institution of Eminence Tag

The OP Jindal Global University signed an MoU with the Ministry of Education which officially recognised the varsity as an Institution of Eminence.
The university was selected by the UGC, along with 13 other higher education institutions, for IoE status last year. However, for official confirmation, the institution had to fulfil certain legislative and procedural requirements.
With the conferment of the status of an Institution of Eminence to JGU, we have entered into India's own 'Ivy League' equivalent of top 10 public and top 10 private institutions.

Schemes for Women Scientists, Researchers in Science and Engineering

Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan launched the SERB – POWER schemes that aim to encourage emerging as well as eminent women researchers to undertake research and development activities in frontier areas of science and engineering.
The schemes will promote women researchers in regular service in academic and research institutions to take up research and development at the highest level through two categories of research support: SERB – POWER Fellowship and SERB – POWER Research Grants.
The SERB-Power Fellowship offers a personal fellowship and a research grant to top performing women researchers for a period of three years, while the SERB – Power Research Grants ensure funding to undertake highly impactful research across all disciplines of Science & Technology.

Thailand's First Transgender MP Dismissed from Parliament

Thailand's parliament lost its first transgender MP after the constitutional court revoked her seat in what critics called a political move against supporters of the kingdom's pro-democracy movement.
Tanwarin Sukkhapisit, a former actor and film-maker, was a pioneer for the LGBT community when she won a seat at last year's election for the Future Forward Party.
But the party was dissolved in February 2020, a move that escalated discontent and fuelled pro-democracy activists to demand the government step down.

UK Universities Lay New Proposal to Attract Foreign Students

Students will need to hold a tier 4 student visa and have successfully completed a degree from a trusted UK university or higher education provider with a proven track record in upholding immigration checks and other rules on studying in the UK.
There will be no limit on the number of students who can apply for the new graduate route. Those on the scheme will be able to switch to the skilled work route if they find a job that meets the skill requirement of the route.
Last year, British universities educated about 460,000 international students, not including those from the EU. The government aims to increase the number to 600,000 over the next 10 years.

Parthapratim Munshi Becomes Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry

Shiv Nadar University Associate Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry, Dr. Parthapratim Munshi, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), UK, as a Fellow.
Dr. Munshi was invited by the world's leading chemistry community through its 'Leaders in the Field' scheme - which identifies outstanding individuals in the chemical sciences - for his significant contributions in the field, particularly in the area of Organic multifunctional materials and several other notable research.
Shiv Nadar University's Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Rupamanjari Ghosh, said that Parthapratim is the first member of SNU's Chemistry Department to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. It is truly a special recognition of his outstanding work, of which all of us at SNU are extremely proud.
Dr. Parthapratim Munshi is an acclaimed chemical scientist and crystallographer who has published research papers extensively in international journals and presented his work across the world.

India Ranks 6th Most Positive about Teachers in 35-country Survey

According to a new 35-country global survey-based report, India ranks among the world's top 10 countries when it comes to valuing its teaching workforce.
The Implicit Teacher Status analysis, which finds China, Ghana, Singapore, Canada, and Malaysia ahead of India, ranks countries by respondents' automatic impressions of teachers when asked to indicate as quickly as possible whether, for example, they think teachers are trusted or untrusted, inspiring or uninspiring, caring or uncaring, intelligent or unintelligent, among other word associations.
This report proves that respecting teachers is not only an important moral duty it is essential for a country's educational outcomes.

IIM-Bangalore's Programme among Top 100 in Global List

The postgraduate programme in enterprise management (PGPEM), offered by the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B), has been ranked in the top 100 in the Financial Times (FT) EMBA 2020 ranking.
Participating for the first time in this ranking, the programme has taken the second position in India. The PGPEM at IIM-B is a weekend MBA programme designed for working mid-level and senior executives with a minimum of four years of work experience after graduation.
The programme aims to prepare the participants to manage greater responsibilities as business leaders, it said. Among the parameters that the ranking is focused on, PGPEM has scored well in categories such as salary increase, career progression, aims achieved, women-on-board, and corporate social responsibility, it said. Professor Abhoy K Ojha, Dean (Programmes), IIM-B, was quoted as saying in the release that the PGPEM is designed to help working professionals stay ahead.

ISB Ranks as India's Top Business School

Indian School of Business (ISB) PGPMAX (Post Graduate Programme in Management for Senior Executives) has been ranked 1 in India and 53 globally. The announcement was made after the release of the Financial Times 2020 EMBA rankings release.
ISB Alumni from PGPMAX Class of 2017 were surveyed for this year's ranking. This assessment has brought forth some other interesting findings, such as PGPMAX being ranked No 11 in the standalone programme category in Asia.
The school is ranked No 12 globally in terms of salary (Average alumni salaries three years after graduation). The salary increase is measured based on the average difference in alumni salary between their salary before the EMBA and now. The PGPMAX programme is ranked #28 globally for work experience of its students.

IIT-Guwahati Students Selected for the Prime Minister's Research Fellows Scheme

Students of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati have been selected for the Prime Minister's Research Fellows (PMRF) Scheme that was announced recently. A total of 14 students have been selected for the scheme through the channel of Lateral Entry.
The PhD students selected for the PMRF fellowship this year are pursuing research in interdisciplinary and forefront areas at various departments and centres such as Departments of Design, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, and the Centres for Nanotechnology, Rural Technology, Energy and Environment.

Pakistan could be the Next Polio-free Country: WHO

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Pakistan could be the next polio-free country, after years of continued efforts to eradicate the crippling disease.
The remarks were made by the WHO's Country Representative Palitha Mahipala at an event to mark World Polio Day.
Mahipala said that the polio eradication programme and partners have affirmed they will remain undeterred in Pakistan.
Due to enormous challenges such as misconceptions about vaccines and the Covid-19 lockdowns, the efforts against polio have been affected.
The polio programme, with its partners, has now been able to ramp-up activities which are vitalised resolve to end polio in Pakistan, as recently done by Africa.

Gujarat is First in Direct Plays on Online Learning

Gujarat ranks first among the states in terms of the number of times online learning initiatives by the state government were accessed on DIKSHA, the central government's online learning portal.
The state-wise analysis of data collected from DIKSHA portal — the Digital Infrastructure for School Education — an initiative of Ministry of Education, from April to October, reveals that Gujarat is at the top among other states in the direct plays category.
The direct plays shows the number of times all initiatives of the state government covering live as well as online learning sessions was accessed. Gujarat has over 1.75 crore direct plays.
While, in other categories, like ETB-Energised Textbooks that have QR code, which is aimed at providing access to digital content for various topics in physical textbooks,and course plays, it ranks at fifth and fourth position, respectively.
