CBSE Introduces Facial Recognition for Accessing Classes 10, 12 Documents

  • The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a facial recognition system for accessing digital documents on platforms like "Parniaam Manjusha" and DigiLocker. Now, candidates will be able to download their Class 10, 12 mark sheets and certificates from DigiLocker without providing ADHAAR Card or mobile number.
  • Using the state of the art Facial Recognition System CBSE will enable students, to download their digital academic documents of class X and XII, a live image of the student will be matched with the photograph on the CBSE admit card already stored in repository, and once successful, the certificate will be emailed to the student.
  • CBSE has already uploaded 12 crore digital academic documents, mark sheets, pass and migration certificates, in DigiLocker.

Rajiv Kumar Panel to Reform Urban Planning Education System

  • The NITI Aayog recently constituted a 14-member panel to reform the urban planning education system. The panel is to be headed by Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog. The other members of the panel are Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog, secretaries of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Ministry of Education.
  • The panel will review urban planning education system and examine the availability, supply and demand of qualified urban planners in India. It will review the current system in terms of curriculum, multi-disciplinary and other issues at post graduate and graduate levels.
  • Urban planning Education is a practice of learning and teaching urban theory, professional practices and studies. It involves interaction between professional planners, public officials on planning process. Formal education of urban planning is provided as a degree in city, urban or regional planning.

Amenia Mukt Bharat Index

  • The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare along with UNICEF launched the anaemia Mukt Bharat index. The anaemia Mukt Bharat is an initiative to reduce the prevalence of anaemia in India.
  • Haryana topped the anaemia free India index or the anaemia Mukt Bharat Index with a score of 46.7. The index was released during the eighth governing body meeting of National Health Mission in Chandigarh.
  • The state of Haryana achieved 93% of immunization in the year 2019-20. It is one of the 11 states of India that has achieved the national health policy targets well before 2020. The institute deliveries of the state has increased to 93.7 percentage.
  • Amenia Mukt Bharat scheme aims to reduce the prevalence of anaemia in India. It provides bi weekly iron Folic acid supplementation to all under five children through Asha workers. Also, it provides biannual Deworming for children and adolescents. The scheme also establishes institutional mechanisms for advanced research in anaemia. It also focuses on non-nutritional causes of anaemia.
  • Anemia is caused due to iron deficiency. When a person is anemic, the capacity of his blood cells to carry oxygen decreases. This reduces the productivity of the person which in turn affects the economy of the country. Therefore, it is highly important to cover Anemia under National Health Mission.

IIT Kharagpur's 'COVIRAP' Gets ICMR Certification

  • 'COVIRAP,' the diagnostic machine developed by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur researchers, has been successfully validated for its efficacy in Covid-19 detection by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
  • This test has been designed to be fairly easy to conduct and affordable as well and can produce results within one hour.
  • This new testing method implements a highly reliable and accurate molecular diagnostic procedure that can be conducted in an ultra-low-cost portable device unit developed by the research team.
  • The test results are rendered via a custom-made mobile application for dissemination without requiring manual interpretation.

Scientists Discover New Organ in Throat

  • Scientists in Netherlands have discovered a new organ in human throat during a research on prostate cancer. The scientists of the Netherlands Cancer Institute discovered a set of salivary glands in the upper part of the throat. they have named the organ Tubarial salivary glands.
  • The newly discovered organ is about 1.5 inches in length and is located over a piece of cartilage called torus tubarius. According to the scientist the main function of the organ is to lubricate and moisten the upper throat. It is located right behind the nose and mouth.
  • They have been named as Tubarial glands in reference to their anatomical location. The characteristics of the gland is similar to that of the salivary glands.
  • The organ cannot be seen through conventional methods of medical imaging such as CT scans, ultrasound or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
  • It was now discovered through Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen Imaging using positron emission tomography.

IIM-Udaipur Invites Applications for One-year MBA in Global Supply Chain Management

  • The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Udaipur has invited applications for the one-year MBA programme in global supply chain management. According to IIM-Udaipur, the programme is designed with the aim to develop future leaders in global supply chain management and logistics.
  • The program content includes live projects, industry interactions and offers career opportunities in companies across E-commerce, FMCG, manufacturing, retail, and many more such domains.
  • The advisory board for the programme consists of highly experienced supply chain professionals from some of the leading companies including Infosys, Delhivery, and DP world.
  • The minimum eligibility criteria for the programme is three year's Bachelor's degree with valid GMAT/ GRE/ CAT scores. The minimum work experience required is 3 years as of March 31, 2021.

IIT-Madras to Train Students in High-performance Computing

  • The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M), will train students in high-performance computing (HPC) soon. The institute has been made the nodal centre for training under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).
  • The centre will train scientists and engineers, and create manpower capable of conducting research in artificial intelligence (AI).
  • The institute had recently signed an agreement with the Pune-based Centre for Development of Advanced Computing.
  • According to Rupesh Nasre, a faculty in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the aim was to build infrastructure, develop applications, focus on research and create a human resource pool.

IAA India and UNICEF Come Together to Promote Equal Gender Representation in Advertising

  • UNICEF and India Chapter of International Advertising Association (IAA) have entered into a partnership to support research on gender representation in advertisements in India based on evidence and real-time validation. 
  • This is based on the understanding that marketing plays a powerful role in shaping gender roles and perceptions and advertising is an important tool that can influence women and girls' empowerment.
  • The changing and evolving landscape of advertisements has a huge potential to promote gender equitable practices especially among young people. 

Nagaland Launches Handbook on "TB Harega, Desh Jeetega"

  • In line with the government's commitment to end Tuberculosis by 2025 in the country, Nagaland Minister for Health and Family Welfare , Mr. S. Pangnyu Phom launched  a handbook on "TB Harega, Desh Jeetega" .
  • Launching the handbook, Mr. Phom said, the National TB Elimination Programme, NTEP Nagaland is committed to reduce TB burden in terms of incidence, prevalence, morbidity and mortality to make the state free from tuberculosis.
  • The main purpose of this handbook, is to proactively engage more elected representatives such as MLAs, members of Zila Parishad, VDB members and Gram Panchayat or Gram Sabha to help address social stigma as well as to promote advocacy and community involvement in TB programme.

India ranks 94/107 in Global Hunger Index

  • India ranked 94 among 107 nations in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2020 and is in the serious hunger category with experts blaming poor implementation processes and lack of effective monitoring in tackling malnutrition and poor performance by large states behind the low ranking.
  • According to the report, 14% of India's population is undernourished. It also showed the country recorded a 37.4% stunting rate among children under five and a wasting rate of 17.3%. The under-five mortality rate stood at 3.7%.
  • The Global Hunger Index is a tool for comprehensively measuring and tracking hunger at global, regional, and national levels.
