Design Students Develop Sustainable Packaging for Oil Created from Oil Cakes

Students of The Design Village, an industry-centric design institute based in Noida, bagged two prizes at the Biodesign Challenge Summit 2021 competing against 52 teams from 20 countries with 'SPOIL', their innovative design for sustainable packaging for oil. Not only did they turn oil into pellet form but the packaging for these pellets was also created using the oilcake that remains as a by-product after oil extraction.
The Design Village's project team and the mentors were awarded the Community Choice Prize and the Outstanding Instructors prize respectively. They were the first-ever Asian team to win an award at this summit.
The student team comprising Tanish Agrawal, Arshad Bajil Kuttasseri, Natasha Singh, Kunika Sharma participated in the biodesign challenge under the guidance of Anusha Dhawan, Sneha Ravishankar.

Gujarat to Host International Education Conference

A two-day international conference of academic institutions will be organised on January 5-6 in the run-up to the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, with a focus on the implementation of the National Education Policy, 2020.
The conference will aim to "effectively clarify the way to strengthen the relationship of industries, academia and students by explaining the roadmap for National Education Policy, 2020.
The conference will be held at Science City in Ahmedabad. Around 120 panel speakers, including 40 from abroad, will share their experiences across 21 different sessions.
Australia, Canada, Norway, UK and France will join as partner countries for the international conference. The British Council, the Australia India Business Exchange, Institute of International Education etc have joined as international participants.

Pradhan Launches NEAT 3.0 to Provide Best-developed ed-tech Solutions

Union Education Minister and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the National Educational Alliance for Technology (NEAT) 3.0, a single platform to provide the best-developed ed-tech solutions and courses to students of the country.
The minister also launched AICTE prescribed technical books in regional languages.
NEAT will be a game-changer in bridging the digital divide, especially among the economically disadvantaged students and also in fulfilling the knowledge-based requirement of India and the world.
National Educational Alliance for Technology (NEAT) is an initiative to provide the use of best-developed technological solutions in the education sector to enhance the employability of the youth on a single platform for learners' convenience.
These solutions use artificial intelligence for a personalised and customised learning experience for better learning outcomes and skill development in the niche areas.

Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Space Research Centre at Chandigarh University

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Kalpana Chawla Centre for Research in Space Science and Technology (KCCRSST) at Chandigarh University, Gharuan.
He also launched a Scholarship Scheme, worth Rs. 10 crore, for the wards of Defence Personnel of the three Services.
Rajnath Singh described the establishment of the Research Centre as an important step towards strengthening the space sector of the country by stressing that it is only through these efforts that India can become a leader in future technologies.

IIT-Delhi, Jamia Milia, Indian Medical Association among 5,789 Entities Lose FCRA Licence

Delhi's several top educational institutions, social and cultural hubs besides the country's top medical body are among the 5,789 entities whose FCRA registration is deemed to have ceased.
These entities did not apply for renewal of their FCRA licence. In addition, the Union Home Ministry also rejected renewal applications of 179 organisations.
According to the official website related to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, among the organisations and entities whose registration under the FCRA ceased or validity expired were IIT-Delhi, Jamia Milia Islamia, Indian Medical Association, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, India Habitat Centre, Lady Shri Ram College for Women and Delhi College of Engineering.
The FCRA registration is mandatory for any association and NGO to receive foreign funding.

Education Ministry Launches 100-day Reading Campaign 'Padhe Bharat'

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched a 100 days Reading Campaign 'Padhe Bharat' to improve learning levels of students.
The campaign marks an important step to improve learning levels of students as it develops creativity, critical thinking, vocabulary and the ability to express both verbally and in writing. It helps children to relate to their surroundings and real life situation.
Children studying in Balvatika to class 8 will be part of this campaign. The reading campaign will be organised for 100 days (14 weeks) starting from January 1 to April 10, 2022. The reading campaign aims to have participation of all stakeholders at national and state level including children, teachers, parents, community, educational administrators etc.

UK, Canada and US among Most Popular Destination for Study Abroad Aspirants

The UK is the most popular study abroad destination followed by Canada and the USA, according to data of over 75,000 applications processed by Leap Scholar.
Based on the applications for the year, the most popular country is the UK at 49 per cent, followed by Canada at 36 per cent, and the USA at 18 per cent. The most popular courses for study abroad in 2021 include MBA, MSc Data Science, and Computer Science, while MSc Management, Business Analytics, and Project Management saw an increase in popularity. The year 2021 witnessed an increasing trend of students preferring specialized courses.
With the introduction of the Graduation Immigration Route, interest in the UK as a study abroad destination has zoomed. The new policy allows students graduating from UK universities to work in the UK for up to 2 years. This trend is expected to continue in 2022 as well.
