Adda247 Launches "Veer Samman" Project for Defence Martyr's Families
Adda247 launched a programme called "Veer Samman" which is for a government job preparation application, in honour of the nation's 75th Independence Day. According to the Adda247, the company hopes to honour the nation's defence martyrs as part of the effort. According to the announcement, "Under this programme, Adda247 would offer a free and excellent education to the families of deceased defence personnel, including children and widows, for a year.
As part of Veer Samman effort, children and widows of defence personnel are eligible to receive a year of free education by choosing from among the several courses offered on the Adda247 site.
The Veer Samman initiative would be applicable for any course offered on the Adda247 platform across banking and the Union Public Service Commission, SSC, railroads, and gate verticals, among others.

NCW, IIM Kozhikode Launches online Entrepreneurship Training Programme for Women
The National Commission of Women (NCW), in association with the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM-K) is offering an online short-term professional training programme in entrepreneurship for women.
Interested women should either hold a graduate degree or experience in running their own business. The last date to apply is August 16.
As per reports, women candidates can choose between 'Foundation Program in Entrepreneurship' and 'Advanced Program in Entrepreneurship'. The former is designed for women seeking to enter entrepreneurship while the advanced is for those who wish to enhance their skills.

Odisha to Introduce Gender Equity Curriculum in Government Schools
A gender equity curriculum will be integrated into the syllabus for students across government schools in Odisha to transform their attitudes, aspirations and behaviour.
The School Education Department signed a memorandum of understanding with the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-Pal), South Asia, and women rights' organisation Breakthrough in Bhubaneswar. The curriculum uses interactive classroom discussions to encourage adolescent boys and girls to reflect on the culturally-embedded gender norms, roles and discriminatory practices.
It will be integrated into the social studies syllabus for boys and girls from classes 6-10 in over 18,000 elementary and 5,000 secondary schools.
Goa CM Pramod Sawant Announces to Implement 100% NEP in Higher Education
Goa Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant announced that the state government will implement 100% of the syllabus in higher education institutes along the lines of the National Education Policy (NEP). The implementation of NEP from the college to university level has already started. From the next academic year, a hundred per cent of the syllabus in the higher education institutes would be online with the NEP.
Sawant also talked about the skills of manpower. He confirmed that Goa has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with around 35 industry associations in the state who will work on the skill development. The Chief Minister also mentioned the need for two lakh manpower in the hospitality industry over the next five years. The manpower will be trained by the government.

Chief Marketing Officer Programme for Working Professionals by IIM Lucknow
The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM Lucknow) is set to launch Chief Marketing Officer Programme in association with ed-tech platform Emeritus. The 10-month programme, as per IIM-L, will enable business leaders, aspiring and new CMOs to lead marketing innovation and business growth towards delivering higher ROI.
The programme will be delivered through a blend of engaging live online sessions and a four-day in-campus immersion at the IIM Lucknow campus and will be taught by distinguished IIM Lucknow faculty.
the programme curriculum includes seven contemporary modules, a capstone project, real-world case studies, hands-on marketing strategy simulations and master classes from industry experts, which will enable learners to develop their proficiency in real-time, data-driven decision-making not just related to marketing but the overall corporate strategy.
IIT Madras Records Highest Number of Job Offers
Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) recorded the highest ever number of job offers received during campus placements in this academic year (2021-22).
A total of 1,199 job offers were received from 380 companies during Phases I and II of campus placements for the 2021-22 academic year. In addition, 231 pre-placement offers (PPOs) were also received from students' summer internships, taking the total tally of job offers to 1,430, which is significantly higher than the previous highest of 1,151 recorded during the 2018-19 academic year.
The tally also includes 45 international offers from 14 companies, which is another record high. Furthermore, 131 start-ups made as many as 199 offers during Phases I and II of campus placement this year. All the 61 MBA Students were also placed this year, leading to 100 per cent placement for IIT Madras' Department of Management Studies.

IIM Shillong Inaugurates Business Management Programme for Defence Officers
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong inaugurated its ongoing Business Management Certificate program for defence officers. The 6-month certificate program intends to give the executives a thorough business management exposure to analytical, strategic, and entrepreneurial thinking.
Through interactive lectures, case studies, sessions with industry experts, management games, simulations, and student participation, the course seeks to emphasize experiential learning to the Indian Defence Forces.
Literacy Rate for STs Improved from 47.1% in 2001 to 59% in 2011: Census
The population of Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the country, according to census 2011, was 104.49 million. STs constitute 8.6 per cent of the country's total population and 11.3 per cent of the total rural population.
The population of ST males was 52.5 million and ST females 52 million.
The decadal growth of ST population in 2011, compared with 2001, revealed that the ST female population growth rate (25 per cent) is higher than the ST male population growth rate (23 per cent).
The sex ratio with reference to STs is 990 — this is higher than the national average of 943. Also, the ST sex ratio improved from 978 females per 1,000 males in 2001 to 990 in 2011.
According to the Census figures, the literacy rate for STs in India improved from 47.1 per cent in 2001 to 59 per cent in 2011.
The literacy rate for the total population increased from 64.8 per cent in 2001 to 73 per cent in 2011. There is a gap of about 14 percentage points in the literacy rate of STs, compared to the all-India literacy rate.
India: Target to Eliminate Kala-azar by 2023
Union Government of India set the target to eliminate Kala-azar from country by 2023. According to Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar (Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare), out of 633 Kala-azar endemic blocks, 625 blocks have successfully eliminated the kala-azar in 2021. India's target is way ahead than World Health Organisation (WHO)'s target of eliminating the disease by 2030.
Kala Azar is also called as Leishmaniasis. It is a neglected tropical disease, by which over 100 countries are affected, including India. Neglected tropical diseases are a group of multiple communicable diseases that are prevalent in tropical and subtropical conditions of 149 countries. The disease is caused due to parasite called Leishmania. This parasite is transmitted via bite of sand flies.
CSIR Gets First Woman Director General
Senior electrochemical scientist Nallathamby Kalaiselvi became the first woman director general of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, a consortium of 38 state-run research institutes across the country.
Her appointment is for a period of two years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Kalaiselvi succeeded Shekhar Mande, who superannuated in April. Rajesh Gokhale, secretary, Department of Biotechnology was given the additional charge of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) upon Mande's retirement.
Known for her work in the field of lithium ion batteries, Kalaiselvi is at present director of the CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute at Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu.
