Tour De France: Jasper Philipsen Emerges from Crashes to Win

Belgian Jasper Philipsen won his second successive Tour de France stage amid scenes of chaos as several riders hit the ground on the final circuit day.
Australian Caleb Ewan took second place and German Phil Bauhaus finished third in the fourth stage, a 182 km ride from Dax, with Briton Adam Yates retaining the overall leader's yellow jersey.

Aadhav Arjuna is New President of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI)

Aadhav Arjuna, the president of the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association (TNBA), emerged victorious in the election held at Nehru Stadium and secured the position of president of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI). Aadhav garnered an impressive 38 out of the 39 votes, defeating the incumbent president, K. Govindaraj.
Kulvinder Singh Gill, a former player and the president of the Madhya Pradesh Basketball Association, was elected as the secretary general.

The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) is the governing body of basketball in India. It was founded in 1950 and is affiliated to FIBA Asia and the Indian Olympic Association.
The history of basketball in India can be traced back to the early 1900s, when the game was introduced by Christian missionaries and YMCAs. The first national basketball championships were held in 1934, and India became a member of FIBA in 1936.
The BFI has been responsible for the development and promotion of basketball in India. It organizes national and international tournaments, and provides training and support to players and coaches. The BFI has also played a role in the growth of the Indian basketball league, the Universal Basketball Alliance (UBA).

Lallianzuala Chhangte Wins AIFF Men's Footballer of the Year Award for 2022-23

Indian football team midfielder Lallianzuala Chhangte was named the AIFF Men's Footballer of the Year for 2022-23 while Manisha Kalyan won her second consecutive Women's Footballer of the Year award. Lallianzuala Chhangte beat Nandhakumar Sekar and Naorem Mahesh Singh of East Bengal to win the award.
Lallianzuala Chhangte bagged the award on the back of some stellar performances for the Indian national team and Mumbai City FC, his club.
Manisha Kalyan pipped Dalima Chhibber and Ngangbam Sweety Devi to the AIFF Women's Player of the Year 2022-23 award. It was her second Player of the Honour in two seasons. Manisha Kalyan, who won the 2020-21 AIFF Women's Emerging Footballer of the Year, currently (2023) plays as a forward for Apollon, a first division football club in Cyprus. Manisha Kalyan became only the third Indian female footballer to win the individual award two or more times after Bala Devi (three) and Bembem Devi (two).

Swimming Nationals: Rujuta Khade Breaks 20-year-old Record

Rujuta Khade broke a 20-year-old national record at the swimming nationals in Hyderabad.
Rujuta clocked 26.47s to win the gold in the 50m women's freestyle event, in the process shattering the earlier national record of 26.61s that stood in Shikha Tandon's name since 2003.
Rujuta's husband, 2010 Asian Games bronze medallist Virdhawal Khade won the 50m men's freestyle -- the fastest race at the meet.
The 22.82s time wasn't Virdhawal's best but the seasoned swimmer still managed to finish ahead of youngsters Mihir Ambre (22.96) and AS Anand (23.30) who clinched the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

India Wins SAFF Championship Title for 9th Time

Hosts India clinched the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship title for the ninth time after beating Kuwait 5-4 in a tense penalty shootout after both sides were deadlocked 1-1 in 120 minutes in the summit clash.
After five rounds of penalty kicks the score line remained 4-4 and sudden death rule was applied.
Mahesh Naorem scored but a diving India goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu saved Khaled Hajiah's shot to hand victory the home side.

Ajit Agarkar New Chief Selector of Indian Men's Cricket Team

Former India player Ajit Agarkar was officially appointed as the chairman of the senior men's selection committee by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Agarkar, a veteran of the game, succeeded former boss Chetan Sharma, who resigned from his post after controversial remarks in February. Agarkar now heads the team of five members consisting of Shiv Sunder Das, Salil Ankola, Subroto Banerjee, and S. Sharath.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), consisting of Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape, interviewed applicants for the position of one selector in the Men's Selection Committee. The three-member CAC has unanimously recommended Ajit Agarkar for the said position.
Agarkar represented the country in 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and four T20Is, in addition to playing 110 first-class, 270 List A, and 62 T20 matches.

Hockey India League after Paris Games

The much-anticipated Hockey India League (HIL) is set to return in a new avatar in 2024 or in early 2025 with Hockey India setting its sight on reviving the franchise-based league after a hiatus of seven years.
The HIL, which was suspended in 2017 due to financial issues and non-cooperation from team owners, is expected to be held after the Paris Olympics and will feature an event for the women for the first time.
HI has requested the international hockey federation (FIH) for a window to conduct the tournament next year and is awaiting a response from the world body.
As per HI's plans, the revamped HIL will have eight men's and four women's teams.

Verstappen runs away with Austrian F1 sprint ra

Double world champion Max Verstappen ran away with an Austrian Grand Prix sprint race in a Red Bull one-two on to increase his Formula One lead over Mexican team mate Sergio Perez to 70 points.
Verstappen took the chequered flag a hefty 21.048 seconds clear of Perez on a drying track at Spielberg's Red Bull Ring with Ferrari's Carlos Sainz finishing third in the 24 lap 100km standalone race.
Aston Martin's Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso finished fourth and fifth with Nico Hulkenberg sixth for Haas, Esteban Ocon seventh for Alpine and George Russell bagging the final point for Mercedes on slick tyres a mere 0.009 behind.

Dream11 Secures BCCI Lead Sponsor Rights

Fantasy gaming platform Dream11 won the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s lead sponsor rights for Rs. 358 crore.
As per reports, Dream11 emerged as the sole serious contender in the race, with only two companies showing interest by picking up the tender document.
Byju's had an optional agreement with the BCCI until November, but they decided to end the contract in March. Since then, Team India has been without a jersey sponsor and even played the World Test Championship 2023 final without one.
During this time, the team wore new training and match jerseys provided by Adidas.
