India Ends Special Olympics 2023 Campaign with 202 Medals

India ended its Special Olympics World Games 2023 campaign by winning 202 medals (76 gold, 75 silver and 51 bronze), with the last of the medals coming from the athletics track.
Speaking about the Indian contingent's performance at the Berlin Games, Chairperson Special Olympics Bharat, Mallika Nada highlighted not only their performance but also the need for inclusion and acceptance of these athletes by the mainstream.

Khandker is Head Coach of Junior Women's Hockey Team

Hockey India appointed former skipper Tushar Khandker as head coach of the junior women's hockey national team. Khandker replaced Harvinder Singh, who was named coach on an interim basis after Eric Wonink left the position in January 2023.
A deputy of senior women's team chief coach Janneke Schopman, Khandker has developed a strong portfolio as a coach over the last decade. Between 2014 and 2016, he was part of the Indian men's team in the capacity of a coach when the team won the Champions Trophy silver medal in London, a gold medal at the Asian Champions Trophy, and a bronze at the World Hockey League. He was also part of the Indian coaching staff at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

FIFA Appoints Indonesia as U-17 World Cup Host

In a significant achievement for Indonesian sports, the Ministry of Youth and Sports warmly welcomed FIFA's decision to choose Indonesia as the host country for the upcoming U-17 World Cup. The announcement sparked excitement and optimism among officials and sports enthusiasts alike. Minister Ariotedjo (Minister of Youth and Sports), expressed his gratitude and outlined the next steps to ensure a successful event.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from November 10 to December 2, 2023. The hosting rights were initially granted to Peru in 2019 but were later withdrawn due to concerns over the country's infrastructure conditions. The decision to award Indonesia as the host reflects FIFA's confidence in the country's capabilities to organize the prestigious event.

Hasaranga Equals 33-year-old ODI Record, Takes Third Straight five-Wicket Haul in World Cup Quali...

Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga equalled Waqar Younis' 33-year-old record after taking a third consecutive five-wicket haul in ODI cricket. In the ODI World Cup qualifier, Sri Lanka defeated Ireland by 133 runs at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Hasaranga again made the difference with the ball, as he claimed five wickets for 79 against Ireland. Prior to this he picked six wickets for 24 against the United Arab Emirates and five scalps for 13 against Oman. However, the 5/79 against Ireland was the second most expensive five-wicket haul in the ODI format.
Back in November 1990, Pakistani bowler Waqar picked 5/11 and 5/16 against New Zealand and 5/52 against West Indies. Hasaranga becomes the second bowler to achieve this record-breaking figure.

Gautam Adani Launches 'Jeetenge Hum' With 1983 Heroes Ahead Of Cricket World Cup 2023

The Adani Group celebrated its Foundation Day, honouring the Indian cricket team that won the 1983 World Cup. The event, dubbed 'Adani Day', took place on the 61st birthday of the group's founder, Gautam Adani. The Adani Group launched the 'Jeetenge Hum' campaign during the event, with the goal of rallying support for Team India and boosting morale ahead of the upcoming ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023.
The launch of the campaign commemorates the 40th anniversary of India's historic victory in 1983. While launching the campaign, Gautam Adani emphasised the importance of cricket as a unifying force in the country. The campaign encourages Indian cricket fans to unite as one, and rally behind Team India backing the team's quest for victory and boosting their morale.

Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee Clinch WTT Contender Title

The Indian women's doubles pair of Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee won the WTT Contender tournament in Tunis, Tunisia after beating the Japanese pair of Miyuu Kihara and Miwa Harimoto.
The Indian duo won 3-1 (11-5, 11-6, 5-11, 13-11) in a challenging final. The pair also became the first Indians to win a Contender title this year.

Carlos Alcaraz Wins Queen's Cup and Regains Number One Ranking

Spain's Carlos Alcaraz fired a Wimbledon warning as he comfortably beat Alex de Minaur 6-4 6-4 to claim the Queen's Club title and returned to world number one.
It was only Alcaraz's third tournament on grass.
Alcaraz is the fourth Spanish player to win the prestigious pre-Wimbledon tournament.

Diksha Dagar Wins Second Ladies European Tour Title

The talented Diksha Dagar cruised to her second Ladies European Tour (LET) title as she grabbed a commanding four-shot win at the Czech Ladies Open.
This was Diksha's 79th start on the LET and she now has two individual wins and nine top-10 finishes, four of which have come this season. She won her first LET title back in 2019 in her rookie year. In 2021, she was part of the winning team at the Aramco Team Series in London.

Rifle Coach Joydeep Karmakar Resigns

One more coach quit, citing the toxic environment within the Indian shooting team. Joydeep Karmakar, the 50 metres rifle chief coach, resigned after not hearing about his contract renewal from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).
This is the third instance in a month that a coach of the team has resigned owing to contractual delays or disagreement with the new high performance director of the team, Dr. Pierre Beauchamp. In May, India's Australian trap coach Russell Mark and skeet coach Lauryn Mark, who was also the high performance manager of the team, had resigned from their posts over delay in contract renewal.

The opening match of the Global Chess League took place at Dubai, showcasing a clash between the Triveni Continental Kings and the upGrad Mumbai Masters. The upGrad Mumbai Masters emerged victorious with a narrow 8-7 win over the Triveni Continental Kings.
Dubai witnessed the launch of the inaugural Global Chess League, marking a significant milestone for the sport. This groundbreaking event aims to revolutionise chess and expand its global reach by introducing the world's first chess team franchise.
The competition features 36 grandmasters, including renowned former world champions Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand, as well as notable players like Ian Nepomniachtchi, Levon Aronian, and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, who have all held prestigious titles in the chess world.

India Cross 50-medal Mark at Special Olympics

India continued its medal rush at the Special Olympics World Summer Games, Germany crossing the 50-medal mark. India won 55 medals, including 15 gold, 27 silver, 13 bronze, in athletics, cycling, power-lifting, roller skating and swimming.

BCCI Announces Shyama Shaw as Selector for Women's Selection Committee

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) unanimously recommended Shyama Shaw as a selector in the Women's Selection Committee and V. S. Thilak Naidu as a selector for Junior Cricket Committee.
The CAC, comprising Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape, made the announcement.
Shaw, a left-handed batter and medium-pace bowler represented India in three Tests and five ODIs. She represented Bengal in domestic cricket from 1985 to 1997, and then Railways from 1998 to 2002. Following her playing career, she served as a Bengal selector for two terms.
Naidu, a former wicket-keeper and batter, represented Karnataka from 1998-99 to 2009-10. With his aggressive batting style, he scored 4,386 runs in 93 first-class games. From 2013 to 2016, he chaired the KSCA Junior Selection Committee and served on the KSCA's Senior Selection Committee during 2015-16.

Cristiano Ronaldo Receives Guinness World Record Award

Cristiano Ronaldo has received the Guinness World Records certificate after becoming the first male player to make 200 international appearances.
The Portugal star marked the milestone by scoring the winning goal in the 89th minute as Portugal pip Iceland 1-0 in the European Championships qualifying.
Before the kick-off, Ronaldo was honoured by Guinness World Records for reaching 200 games for Portugal almost 20 years after his debut.
The record is yet another addition to Ronaldo's long list of accomplishments in international football.

India Win the 2023 Women's Emerging Asia Cup Title

India A, captained by Shweta Sehrawat, became the champions of the inaugural edition of the Women's Emerging Asia Cup. They defeated Lata Mondal's Bangladesh A by 31 runs in the final at the Mission Round Ground in Mong Kok, Hong Kong.
After being put in to bat first, India A scored 127 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.
The Indian bowlers rose to the occasion with Patil (4/13) and Kashyap (3/20) sharing seven wickets between them and bundled out Bangladesh for 96 in 19.2 overs.
