Indian President Inaugurates 5th Meghalaya Games

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the 5^th edition of the Meghalaya Games in Tura, Meghalaya. The President highlighted the tremendous potential for the development of sports and sportspersons in the North East region, citing its rich tradition of a strong sports culture.
The 5^th edition of the Meghalaya Games held historical significance on multiple fronts. Notably, it marked the inaugural occasion of being hosted in Tura, a departure from its previous exclusive location in Shillong. Additionally, this edition introduced traditional indigenous games into its line-up, and it is distinguished as the first instance where the inauguration is carried out by the President of India.

Shooter Vijayveer Sidhu Clinches 17th Paris Olympics Spot for India

India's Vijayveer Sidhu clinched a 17^th Paris Games quota place for the country while clinching a silver medal in the men's 25m rapid-fire event at the Asia Olympic Qualifiers.
Sindhu the team bronze-medallist at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, joined senior country-mate Anish Bhanwala in securing a Paris berth in the 25m rapid fire.
Anish had bagged the Olympic quota with a bronze medal in the Asian Championship in Changwon, Korea, in 2023.

Karnataka's Prakhar Chaturvedi, Becomes 1st Player to Slam 400 in Cooch Behar Trophy

Karnataka's batter Prakhar Chaturvedi broke the 25-year-old record of India's star batter Yuvraj Singh with an unbeaten 404 runs off 636 balls in the U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy final. With a stunning knock, Prakhar Chaturvedi surpassed Yuvraj Singh's 1999 record of 358 runs for Punjab in a game against Bihar.

Madhya Pradesh emerged as the overall champion at the inaugural Beach Games 2024, held at the pristine blue flag certified Ghoghla Beach in Diu. The landlocked state secured a staggering total of 18 medals, including an impressive haul of 7 gold.
The competition witnessed 1404 young athletes from 28 states and Union Territories who participated in a diverse array of disciplines.
Maharashtra clinched 14 medals, including 3 gold, while Tamil Nadu, Uttarkhand, and hosts Dadra, Nagar Haveli, Diu & Daman secured 12 medals each. Notably, Assam secured 8 medals, with an impressive 5 gold.
In a thrilling turn of events, Lakshadweep made history by securing the gold medal in Beach Soccer. Their victory, a 5-4 triumph over Maharashtra in the final, not only added diversity to the medal tally but also underscored the inclusive and nationwide impact of the Diu Beach Games 2024.

Rhythm Sangwan Clinches 16th Olympic Quota for 2024 Paris Games

In a remarkable feat at the Asian Shooting Championships 2024 in Jakarta, Indonesia, Rhythm Sangwan secured a bronze medal in the women's 25m pistol event, obtaining a Paris 2024 Olympic quota for India. ICC U-19 World Cup: Two Indians Named among 16 Umpires and 4 Match Referees

Umpire K.N. Padmanabhan and match referee Narayanan Kutty are the only two Indians part of the 20-member roster of umpires and match-referees for the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024, announced the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The Under-19 World Cup will be held in from January 19 to February 11 in South Africa after Sri Lanka Cricket was banned in November 2023 and the tournament was transferred to the Rainbow nation.

Wrestler Aman Overcomes Chinese Challenge, Wins Gold

Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat came up with a commanding performance and bagged the 57kg gold medal in the Zagreb Open Ranking Series tournament, defeating China's world No. 7 Wanhao Zou 10-0. Deepak Punia could not make it to the 86kg medal round.
