India Open: Thailand's Puavaranukroh-Taerattanachai Wins Mixed Doubles Title

Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai clinched the India Open 2024 mixed doubles title by defeating world No 5 Chinese duo of Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin in straight sets 21-16, 21-16 in the final held at IG Stadium, New Delhi.
This was the third Super 750 title for the Thai pair, ranked world number seven in the BWF rankings.

Tata Group Secures IPL Title Sponsorship for Next 5 Years

The BCCI awarded the title sponsorship rights for the Indian Premier League to Tata Group for a period of five years. The Indian conglomerate, with diverse verticals, has renewed its association with the BCCI for a record-breaking value of INR 2500 crore, the highest-ever sponsorship amount in the history of the league.
The collaboration with Tata Group for the title sponsorship of IPL 2024-28 is a significant milestone in IPL's journey.

ITF Women's Open: Rutuja Crashes out in Semis, Darja in line for golden double

Rutuja Bhosale of India went down to sixth seed Carole Monnet of France in the semi-finals of the ITF Women's Open.
Rutuja who was the lone Indian remaining in the tournament, lost 2-6, 0-6 to the Frenchwoman in just 63 minutes.

Man Singh Wins Gold at Asian Marathon Championships

Man Singh became only the second Indian man to clinch the gold medal at the Asian Marathon Championships as he won the race with a personal best time.
He clocked 2 hours, 14 minutes and 19 seconds and won the competition.

Indian Women's Hockey Team Fails to Qualify for Paris Olympics 2024

India's hopes for a place in the Paris Olympics were shattered after losing the third-fourth classification match against Japan in the FIH Women's Qualifier in Ranchi. India needed to win against Japan for an Olympic quota, but they lost the game 1-0.
Japan scored the match's only goal in the first quarter and then defended with a lot of confidence.

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Zaka Ashraf Steps Down

Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), tendered his resignation after chairing a managing committee meeting in Lahore. This announcement came as a major blow to Pakistani cricket, as Ashraf had taken over the PCB chief role just last year (2023) from Najam Sethi. The sudden resignation left the cricketing fraternity in shock, with various reasons being attributed to Ashraf's departure.

Carlos Sainz Wins Dakar Rally 2024

Carlos Sainz, at the age of 61, made history by winning the Dakar Rally for the fourth time. His latest victory in the 2024 rally marked him as the oldest winner of this gruelling race. Sainz, also known as 'El Matador', is renowned for his extraordinary skills and endurance in one of the most challenging motorsport events in the world.
This victory was not only a personal achievement for Sainz but also a significant milestone for Audi. It marked Audi's first title in the Dakar Rally's car category.
The Dakar Rally, a two-week-long race, is known for its rigorous demands, testing the limits of both drivers and their vehicles. Sainz completed the 12th and final stage in Yanbu, on the Red Sea coast, maintaining a lead of one hour 20 minutes and 25 seconds over his closest competitor, Belgian Guillaume de Mevius.
Sainz's Dakar journey is marked by diversity and adaptability, having won the rally with four different manufacturers: Volkswagen (2010), Peugeot (2018), Mini (2020), and now Audi (2024). His experience and skill have proven invaluable in navigating the varied and challenging terrains of the Dakar Rally.

Paris Olympics 2024 Hockey Qualifier: Germany Beat India in SF

Following a 2-2 draw in regulation time, the Indian women's hockey team lost 4-3 in a shootout to Germany, meaning they are still one win away from qualifying for the Olympics in Paris. India will now play Japan in the third-place playoff. In the meantime, the USA defeated Japan 2-1 and advanced to the final and earned a spot in the Paris Olympics.

Rohit Sharma Becomes First Player to Score 5 T20I Centuries

India skipper Rohit Sharma became the first batter in T2O international history to get 5 centuries with his ton against Afghanistan in the 3rd T20I against Afghanistan.
Sharma, who had scored back to back ducks in the first 2 matches in the series, came roaring back to form with a century in 64 balls which was peppered with 10 fours and 6 sixes.
Rohit's last century in this format came in 2018 against West Indies where he scored an unbeaten 111 not out at Lucknow.

R. Praggnanandhaa Becomes India No. 1

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa continued to script records as the chess prodigy became the No. 1-ranked Indian player for the first time in his career. Praggnanandhaa achieved the feat at the Tata Steel Masters in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands, after defeating reigning world champion Ding Liren.
Praggnanandhaa went past his idol Viswanathan Anand in the live classical chess rankings. He jumped 2 spots to 11th overall with 2748.3 rating points, 0.3 more than Viswanathan Anand.
Praggnanandhaa, who started playing at the tender age of 5, became India's youngest and the then world's second-youngest Grandmaster at age 12 in 2018.
