NASA Bids Goodbye to Cassini

NASA has finally bid adieu to the Cassini spacecraft after 13-long years of Saturn exploration.
The spacecraft self-destructed on September 15, 2017 - 20 years after its launch in the year 1997.
Cassini spacecraft never failed to deliver what was expected of it.

Mars Has A Porous Crust

According to a study, Mars's crust is not as dense as previously thought and a lower density likely means that at least part of the Red Planet's crust is relatively porous.

The findings provide researchers clue that could help them better understand the interior structure and evolution of Mars

First Global Map of Water on Moon

Scientists have created the first map of water trapped in the uppermost layer of the moon’s soil using data from an instrument aboard India’s Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft.

The signature of water is present nearly everywhere on the lunar surface, not limited to the polar regions as previously reported.

The amount of water increases toward the poles and does not show significant difference among distinct compositional terrains.

ISS Astronauts Welcome New Members

Two US astronauts and a Russian cosmonaut docked at the International Space Station for a five month mission.
The three new members are: Alexander Misurkin, Mark Vande Hei and Joe Acaba.
The trio will now join Paolo Nespoli of Italy, Sergey Riazanski of Russia and Randy Bresnik of the US aboard the orbital lab.

Largest Solar Flare in 12 Years

Scientists have captured the Sun's largest solar flare in more than 12 years and the eight largest since 1996.
The huge burst of radiation, which was not harmful to humans due to the Earth's protective atmosphere and distance from the Sun.
The large solar bursts have energies comparable to one billion hydrogen bombs and can drive plasma away from the solar surface at speeds of up to 2,000 kilometres per second (km/s) in phenomena known as coronal mass ejections.

Electricity from Flowing Blood

Scientists have created a path-breaking system that has the potential to surpass their previous developments – a lightweight power generator that can convert even the energy of flowing blood into electricity.
Researchers from Fudan University in China have developed a fibre with a thickness of less than a millimetre that generates electrical power when surrounded by flowing saline solution – in a thin tube or even in a blood vessel.

Airtel 4G Smartphone

India's largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel in talks with multiple handset makers to bring a 4G smartphone for a price as low as Rs. 2,500-2.700 to take on Reliance Jio.
As per reports, the new 4G smartphone - that will debut around Diwali - will come bundled with Airtel's 4G connection and attractive data and voice plan to woo mass market customers.
