Sri Lanka's Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando resigned, taking responsibility for what the government earlier termed "a major lapse" in intelligence on the Easter attacks.
Mr. Fernando is the first official to step down after both President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said they were unaware of the imminent threat, though the security establishment had received prior intelligence.
While Mr. Sirisena promised to overhaul the security structure, making key changes in 24 hours, the new Secretary is yet to be named.
Muslim Refugees in Negombo Flee
Days after a deadly bomb attack shook Negombo, killing over a hundred people praying at the St. Sebastian's Church, a new, unexpected conflict has heightened tensions in the coastal town.
Hundreds of refugees who live in Negombo, some 40 km north of Colombo, have been forced to leave their homes and seek shelter in nearby mosques and police stations, following a sudden hostility from a section of locals.
A mixed ethnic town, Negombo is home to a sizeable number of Catholics and fewer Muslims, and hundreds of refugees who fled persecution in their countries.
Over 1,000 refugees and asylum-seekers, hailing from countries including Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran, live in the town, with government and UNHCR support.
They have enjoyed cordial ties with the local community.
Law Strengthening Ukrainian Language Use
Ukraine's Parliament passed a law enforcing the use of the Ukrainian language in official settings, a move likely to rile Russian-speaking areas of the country and Moscow.
Lawmakers approved the measure, which also increases the quota for Ukrainian-language television and radio programming, just days after Russian-speaking Volodymyr Zelensky was elected President.
Officials at all levels as well as doctors, teachers, lawyers and others, will have to speak Ukrainian or face fines. The law will not apply to private communications or religious rites.
The law will not be enforced for three years as centres are set up around the country to support the learning of Ukrainian language and culture.
Mining firm Vedanta Ltd. has received environment clearance for the expansion of its oil and gas operation in Rajasthan that would entail an investment of Rs. 12,000 crore.
The proposal is to expand onshore oil and gas production from 3,00,000 BOPD (barrels oil per day) to 4,00,000 BOPD and 165 mmscfd (million standard cubic feed per day) to 750 mmscfd from the 'RJ-ON-90/1' block in Barmer and Jalore districts.
Biocon Net Soars
Biocon's revenue grew 31% to Rs. 5,659 crore and net profit soared 143% to Rs. 905 crore for the fiscal ended March 31, 2019.
The fiscal that went by was a landmark year for Biologics business, which reported a 97% growth, emerging as a key driver for Biocon's incremental growth and crossed the $200-million revenue milestone.
Syngene, its research services subsidiary, crossed Rs. 500 crore revenue with a net profit of Rs. 100 crore in Q4.

ISSF World Cup
India opened its medal account with a gold each in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed and 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team events on the third day of competitions at the ISSF Shooting World Cup.
Young shooters Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary took the top spot in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event after Anjum Moudgil and Divyansh Singh Panwar opened the country's gold account in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event.
Bhaker and Chaudhary outshot Jiang Ranxin and Pang Wei of China in the final, which was held in the new format wherein top two teams battled for the gold medal.
Ravi Uppal, chairman and managing director of Steel Infra Solutions Private Ltd., has been appointed as Chairman of Ring Plus Aqua Ltd., and JK Files (India) Ltd., the two subsidiaries of Raymond Ltd.
Gautam Hari Singhania has stepped down from the position of the chairman of Ring Plus.
Previously he had stepped down as chairman of JK Files.
Mr. Uppal had worked with Volvo, ABB, L&T and Jindal Steel and Power.
Joe Biden Announces White House Bid
Former U.S. Vice-President Joseph R. Biden Jr. announced that he will run for the office of President in 2020.
Mr. Biden's move has been anticipated for months. The six-term former Senator from Delaware joins a galaxy of 19 Democratic presidential hopefuls, including women and progressives, as well as Hispanic, Asian, African-American, gay and millennial candidates.
Mr. Biden has made two previous bids for the White House (in 1998 and 2008). After losing his 2008 bid, he went on to serve, for two terms, as Vice-President in the Barack Obama administration.
Khaira Quits Assembly
Former Aam Aadmi Party leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira resigned as legislator from the Punjab Assembly.
Mr. Khaira, who had floated the Punjabi Ekta Party, said that he decided to resign as a legislator as he would be filing his nomination papers as a candidate of the Punjab Democratic Alliance from the Bathinda parliamentary constituency.
World Intellectual Property Day is observed annually on 26 April. The event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to "raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life" and "to celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of societies across the globe".
April 26 was chosen as the date for World Intellectual Property Day because it coincides with the date on which the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organisation entered into force in 1970.
The theme for 2019 World Intellectual Property Day is 'Reach for Gold: IP and Sports'.
Jacques Kallis Honoured by South Africa Presidency
Former South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis has been honoured with an Order of Ikhamanga from the Presidency for his contribution to cricket and placing the team on the world sporting map.
Kallis who is busy coaching IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders, received the Order in absentia from President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Kallis' wife Charlene and his agent, former South Africa spinner Dave Rundle, collected the award on his behalf in Pretoria.
