Bajrang and Vinesh Nominated for Khel Ratna

  • The Wrestling Federation of India recommended Asian Champion Bajrang Punia and last year's Asian Games gold-medallist Vinesh Phogat for the country's highest sporting honour, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna.
  • The National shooting federation has suggested the names of pistol ace Heena Sidhu and trap shooter Ankur Mittal for the Khel Ratna.

2024 World TT

  • Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has decided to bid for the 2024 edition of the biennial World Team Championships.
  • According to TTFI secretary M.P. Singh, the time has come for India to host a high-profile event. The last time India hosted a World Championships was way back in 1987.

Abhishek Wins Gold

  • The shooting range in Beijing continues to be a favourite hunting ground for India.
  • At the place where Abhinav Bindra won the country's only individual Olympic gold in 2008, the Indian shooters were busy collecting more Olympic quota places for the Tokyo 2020 Games.
  • Abhishek Verma bettered Divyansh Singh Panwars' effort, he won the silver and Olympic quota in men's air rifle.

BCCI Recommends Four for Arjuna Award

  • The BCCI recommended India pacers Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and women's team player Poonam Yadav for the Arjuna award. The decision was taken during the CoA meeting.

WC Match Officials

  • Three World Cup winners and one Indian umpire in Sundaram Ravi were named among the 22 match officials for the league stage of the mega event beginning on May 30 in the United Kingdom.
  • Sixteen umpires and six match referees have been finalised for the 48-match tournament.
  • Match Referees: Chris Broad, David Boon, Andy Pycroft, Jeff Crowe, Ranjan Madugalle, and Richie Richardson.

Panghal and Pooja Fetch Golds

  • Amit Panghal (52 kg) picked up his second successive gold of the year, while Pooja Rani finished on top in women's 81 kg to bring India's campaign to a fine end in the Asian Boxing Championships.
  • India ended the event with 13 medals, two gold, four silver and seven bronze.

Asia Badminton Championship

  •  P.V. Sindhu and Saina Nehwal registered straight-game wins to sail into the quarter-finals of the Asia Badminton Championship.
  • Saina, defeated Kim Ga-eun of Korea. Sindhu defeated Indonesia's Choirunnisa. The World No. 6 will next play unseeded Cai Yanyan of China.

ISSF World Cup

  •  India opened its medal account with a gold each in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed and 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team events on the third day of competitions at the ISSF Shooting World Cup.
  • Young shooters Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary took the top spot in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event after Anjum Moudgil and Divyansh Singh Panwar opened the country's gold account in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event.
  • Bhaker and Chaudhary outshot Jiang Ranxin and Pang Wei of China in the final, which was held in the new format wherein top two teams battled for the gold medal.

Asian Wrestling Championships

  • Amit Dhankar clinched a silver while Rahul Aware won a bronze in the men's freestyle wrestling at the Asian Wrestling Championships.
  • Amit won a silver in the 74 kg freestyle event after losing to Daniyar Kaisanov of Kazakhstan in the final.
  • Rahul Aware beat Jincheol Kim of Korea in the men's 61 kg freestyle bronze medal play-off.

ODI Status for USA and Oman

  • United States sealed its ODI status for the first time with a third straight victory at the World Cricket League Division Two event.
  • Oman has also secured ODI status, leaving Namibia, Papua New Guinea, Canada and Hong Kong to fight it out for the remaining two places.
