Former Deputy NSA Dutt Passes Away

  • Shekhar Dutt, a former Defence Secretary and former Deputy NSA, died at the age of 79. Dutt also served as the Governor of Chhattisgarh. He had served the Army in the 1971 war with Pakistan as an emergency commissioned officer. He was awarded the Sena Medal for Gallantry.
  • In the IAS, he served as Defence Secretary from July 2005 to July 2007. Upon superannuation, he was appointed Deputy National Security Adviser, and in 2010, he was appointed Governor.

Former England Batter Wayne Larkins Passes Away

  • Former England and Northamptonshire batsman Wayne Larkins died aged 71.
  • Between 1979 and 1991, Larkins, well known as 'Ned', participated in 13 Tests and 25 One Day Internationals. His second appearance for England was at the 1979 World Cup final, where he batted at No. 7 and bowled two overs. However, his greatest moment came when he scored the winning runs at Sabina Park, giving England a surprise 1-0 lead on the 1989-90 tour of the West Indies.

Former India Spinner Dilip Doshi Passes Away

  • Dilip Doshi, former India spinner, passed away at the age of 77.
  • Doshi made his India debut in 1979 following the retirement of the legendary Bishan Singh Bed and made his final appearance in the format in 1983. He played 33 matches and took 114 wickets with six five-wicket hauls. He also played 15 matches in the ODI format, between 1980 and 1982, picking 22 wickets at 23.81.

  • Twice Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, bronze winners Yogeshwar Dutt and Bajrang Punia, and Tokyo Games silver medallist Ravi Dahiya were all his products. Vladimir also coached World Championship medallists like Deepak Punia in his early years.

Former England Cricketer David Lawrence Passes Away

  • Gloucestershire Cricket announced the unfortunate demise of former cricketer and club president David 'Syd' Lawrence at the age of 61.
  • In 1988, he became the first British-born black man to play Test cricket for England, making his debut at Lord's against Sri Lanka. He played five Tests between 1988 and 1992, taking 18 wickets, including a famous five-wicket haul against the West Indies at The Oval in 1991 - in the same innings, he dismissed the great Viv Richards.
  • He also made one ODI appearance, recording remarkable figures of 4 for 67, which remain the best bowling figures by a player who only played a single One Day International.
