Veteran Leader N. Tippanna Passes Away at 97

N. Tippanna, a respected leader, lawyer, and former Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council, passed away at the age of 97. Tippanna made major contributions to law, politics, and education in Karnataka.
Born on November 23, 1928, in Turuvanur, Tippanna began his legal career in 1954. He served as District Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor in Ballari. He also led the Bellary Bar Association and was Vice President of the Karnataka Bar Council.
Politically, he was a strong supporter of Ramakrishna Hegde and joined the Janata Dal (U). After the party merged with Janata Dal (S), Tippanna became the State President of JD(S).

Prajakta Koli First Indian on Maiden TIME 100 Creators List

Famous YouTuber-turned-actress Prajakta Koli, became the first Indian to feature in the maiden TIME 100 Creators list, most influential digital voices 2025. The actress, author, content creator and activist is the only Indian to get featured on this list, which also features names of the renowned influential people like Indian origin British podcaster, author, entrepreneur, and life coach Jay Shetty, YouTube Marques Brownlee and content creator and TikTok star Charli D'Amelio.

Veteran Socialist Leader Charupara Ravi Passes Away

Charupara Ravi, the state vice-president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and a committed socialist leader, passed away at the age of 77. Known for his unwavering dedication to socialist ideals, Ravi was also serving as the chairman of the party's parliamentary board at the time of his passing.
Ravi's involvement in political movements began early in life. From the age of 18, he had been actively engaged in Janata Dal organisations and was a vocal advocate for the common man.
Deeply influenced by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Rammanohar Lohia and Jayaprakash Narayan, Ravi was a strong critic of the emergency, and was jailed for over four months during this period.
He served as the Rubber Board vice chairman in 1990, KSRTC director board member in 1996, and devaswom board member in 1999.

International Umpire Bismillah Jan Shinwari No More

Bismillah Jan Shinwari, a renowned and respected Afghan international cricket umpire, passed away at the age of 41. His untimely death has left a profound void in the cricketing world, especially within Afghanistan's emerging cricket landscape, where Shinwari was not only a senior umpire but also a symbol of professionalism and dedication.
Bismillah Jan Shinwari's journey to international recognition was rooted in relentless dedication to cricket officiating. A member of the ICC International Panel of Umpires, Shinwari had steadily built a reputation for accuracy, composure, and integrity—qualities essential to the role of an international umpire.
Shinwari made his international umpiring debut in December 2017, officiating an ODI (One Day International) between Afghanistan and Ireland at Sharjah. Over the following years, he stood in a total of 25 ODIs and 21 T20 Internationals (T20Is), earning the respect of players, coaches, and officials across the cricketing world.

Nigeria Football Legend Peter Rufai Passes Away

Peter Rufai, the former Nigeria national football team goalkeeper, passed away at the age of 61. He was known for his role in Nigeria's 1994 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) victory and played in two FIFA World Cups. His death has led to tributes from across the football world.
Peter Rufai, also known as Dodo Mayana, was one of the best goalkeepers in Nigeria's football history. He played a major role in the Super Eagles' 1994 AFCON victory and helped the team reach the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup in both 1994 and 1998. Born in Lagos, he had a successful international career with 65 caps from 1983 to 1998.

Diogo Jota Passes Away

Portugal international and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota died at the age of 28.
At Liverpool, Jota enjoyed a successful spell, winning both the FA Cup and League Cup under former manager Jrgen Klopp. Most recently, he was part of the team that lifted the Premier League title in the 2024–25 season under new head coach Arne Slot.
Internationally, Jota featured for Portugal in multiple major tournaments. Earlier this year (2025), he was part of the squad that won the UEFA Nations League, appearing during extra time in the final against Spain. He also represented his country at Euro 2024.

IIT Guwahati Student Appointed as Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassador

Sukanya Sonowal, a final-year B Tech student from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, was appointed to the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network (CYPAN). She will serve as the Lead for Communications and Public Relations for the 2025–2027 term.
CYPAN is a youth-led initiative working across 56 Commonwealth nations to promote peace and counter violent extremism through dialogue, community service, and outreach.
Sonowal's appointment follows a three-stage selection process that assessed candidates on their commitment to peacebuilding, knowledge of Commonwealth values, and leadership experience.
