India Rolls Out First-Ever e-Truck Incentive Scheme under PM Modi's Green Mobility Vision

  • Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Minister for Heavy Industries & Steel, H. D. Kumaraswamy, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), Government of India, launched a groundbreaking scheme to provide financial incentives for electric trucks (e-trucks) under the PM E-DRIVE initiative. This marks the first time the Government of India has extended direct support for electric trucks, aiming to accelerate the country's transition to clean, efficient, and sustainable freight mobility.

Assam Approves 'Gajah Mitra' Scheme to Tackle Human-Elephant Conflict

  • The Assam Cabinet approved the 'Gajah Mitra' scheme to combat the human-elephant conflict in the state. The scheme will focus on sustainable habitats for elephants in 80 conflict-prone areas, including planting bamboo and Napier grass - key components of an elephant's diet.
  • In addition to maintaining food stocks for elephants, the cabinet announced that rapid response teams will be deployed in the contentious zones to help villagers use harmless means to divert elephant herds away from the human settlements.

Punjab Launches Mukhya Mantri Sehat Yojana

  • The Punjab government launched the 'Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana', a universal health cover promising free and cashless medical treatment up to Rs. 10 lakh per year for every family of the state, irrespective of income.
  • The scheme was formally launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal at a public event in Chandigarh.
  • The scheme will be operational from October 2 after which camps will be organised to enrol people.
  • Health cards under this scheme can be made at Seva Kendras or Common Service Centres (CSCs). In addition, these can also be obtained through online registration using an Aadhaar card or voter ID.

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Poverty-Free Village Scheme

  • Rajasthan government launched the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Poverty-Free Village Scheme.
  • Under this scheme, an amount of Rs. 300 crore has been sanctioned with the aim of bringing all the Below Poverty Line families of the identified villages above the poverty line.
  • In the first phase of the scheme, the government will cover 5,000 villages, offering development initiatives, self-employment opportunities, skill enhancement programs, and financial assistance, along with support in education and healthcare.

ESIC Launches SPREE 2025 to Expand Social Security Coverage for Workers

  • The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) launched SPREE 2025 (Scheme for Promotion of Registration of Employers and Employees). The initiative was approved during ESIC's 196th Corporation Meeting held in Shimla under the chairmanship of Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
  • SPREE 2025 is being implemented from July 1 to December 31, 2025, and offers a one-time opportunity for unregistered employers and workers—including contractual and temporary staff—to enrol under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) scheme without facing penalties or retrospective inspections.

Bihar Launches Mukhya Mantri Pratigya Scheme

  • The Bihar government launched the 'Mukhya Mantri Pratigya' scheme to provide financial support to youths for carrying out internship programmes after clearing their class 12 board examination.
  • The decision to launch the paid internship program, which aims to address youth unemployment and enhance industry readiness among students, was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
  • Under the scheme, youths aged between 18 and 28, having either trained under skill development programme or those who have passed Class 12 Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) diploma, graduate and post-graduate will get financial support for availing internship training.

Cabinet Nod for ELI Scheme to Create over 3.5 crore Jobs

  • The Union Cabinet gave its nod to the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme aimed at encouraging large-scale job creation and strengthening social security for the country's workforce.
  • The ELI Scheme, which was announced in the Union Budget 2024–25 as part of the Prime Minister's package of five schemes for youth employment and skilling, has a total budget outlay of Rs. 99,446 crore.
  • The scheme comprises two key components. Under the first component, first-time employees registered with the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will receive a direct incentive equivalent to one month's wage, capped at Rs. 15,000, paid in two instalments.
  • The second component focuses on incentivising employers to create additional jobs across sectors, with added benefits for the manufacturing industry.
