Parliament Passes the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill 2025
The Parliament passed the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, 2025, with the Rajya Sabha approving it. The Bill was already passed by the Lok Sabha. The Bill seeks to replace the Indian Carriage of Goods by Sea Act, 1925. The Act establishes the responsibilities, liabilities, rights, and immunities in case of goods carried from a port. The legislation empowers the central government to issue directions for carrying out provisions of the Bill, and amend the schedule specifying rules applicable to bills of lading. A bill of lading refers to a document issued by a freight carrier to a shipper. It contains details such as the type, quantity, condition, and destination of goods being carried.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has launched 'Apna Ghar', a nationwide initiative providing truck drivers with hygienic and safe resting spaces. As of July 2025, 368 units with 4,611 beds have been set up across highways, offering dormitories, dhabas, clean toilets, bathing areas, cooking.
To improve the safety, health, and comfort of India's trucking workforce, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has rolled out a pioneering initiative called 'Apna Ghar'. Launched nationwide, the programme provides hygienic and comfortable resting facilities for truck drivers along major highways, marking a crucial step towards ensuring better living conditions for those who drive the backbone of India's economy.

Cabinet Enhances Budgetary Allocation for PMKSY to Rs. 6,520 Crore

Bima Sakhi Yojana Launched to Empower Rural Women and Advance 'Insurance for All by 2047' Mission
Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan hailed the launch of the 'Bima Sakhi Yojana' as a historic step towards women's empowerment and economic security in rural and semi-urban India. He credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for driving this transformative initiative, which aligns with the government's 'Insurance for All by 2047' mission.
The Ministry of Rural Development, in partnership with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), will appoint trained women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as 'Bima Sakhis' at the Gram Panchayat level under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission's financial inclusion initiative. These Bima Sakhis will promote insurance schemes, deliver trust-based services to remote areas, and foster financial independence among rural women.
