Sawan Begins With Harela Festival in Uttarakhand 2024

July 16, 2024 marked the official beginning of Sawan accompanied by the vibrant Harela festival celebrated across Uttarakhand. This traditional festival holds deep significance for the region's agriculture and culture, symbolising prosperity and overall well-being.
Harela is a significant Hindu festival observed in Uttarakhand and parts of Himachal Pradesh, particularly popular in the Kumaun region of Uttarakhand.
Celebrated with immense enthusiasm, Harela signifies peace, prosperity, and the celebration of nature.
This traditional festival holds deep cultural and environmental importance, symbolising prayers and hopes for abundant harvests and prosperity through divine blessings.
It also commemorates the ceremonial union of Shiva and Parvati.

Uttarakhand Opens Its First-Ever Bird Gallery in Dehradun

The research wing of the Uttarakhand Forest Department established Uttarakhand's first bird gallery at the Nature Education Centre, Jolly Grant, in Dehradun. This gallery showcases high-resolution images of Uttarakhand's birds, giving visitors an eye-catching display of the state's feathery inhabitants.
This bird gallery is an attempt to highlight Uttarakhand's avian diversity and promote a greater appreciation for these unique species. By educating visitors about the numerous bird species and their functions in the ecosystem, the gallery would facilitate conservation of these avian species and create awareness about these species.
Uttarakhand has the highest number of bird species reported in India, with over 710 species, which is more than 50 percent of the country's bird species.

46 Years on, 12th-century Jagannath Puri Temple's Treasure Trove Opened, Ornaments Relocated

Awe and anticipation marked the historic opening of the secret chamber of Odisha's 12th century Jagannath Puri temple, with all eyes on what lies hidden inside the shrine's treasure trove, last opened for cataloguing in 1978.
Opening of the Ratna Bhandar (treasure trove) of the Jagannath Temple was one of the poll promises of the BJP, which won big in the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state, ending the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD's inexorable 24-year run this June (2024).
Apart from opening all four gates of the temple, the BJP had in its manifesto pledged to reopen the Ratna Bhandar for repairs and fresh inventorisation of its valuables. The last inventory process, 46 years ago, had taken 70 days.

The ambitious project to build the 'world's largest Ramayan temple' entered its second phase of construction in East Champaran district of Bihar. The Viraat Ramayan Mandir, as it is known, promises to be a monumental structure that will surpass the size of the newly constructed Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, drawing inspiration from various architectural marvels across Asia.

It will be three times larger than the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya
The project comes with an estimated cost of ₹500 crore
Upon completion, it will house the world's largest shivling

Ministry of Culture Initiates Project PARI for the 46th World Heritage Committee Meeting

India, a vibrant centre of artistic expression, has a rich history of public art reflecting its cultural and spiritual diversity. Project PARI (Public Art of India), initiated by the Ministry of Culture and executed by Lalit Kala Akademi and the National Gallery of Modern Art, seeks to blend India's millennia-old artistic heritage with modern themes and techniques.
The first intervention of Project PARI is in Delhi, coinciding with the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee from 21-31 July 2024.
Project PARI aims to democratise art by integrating it into public spaces, transforming urban landscapes into accessible galleries. This inclusive approach fosters a shared cultural identity and enhances social cohesion. Women artists play a significant role in the project, highlighting India's Nari Shakti.
