'VIRAASAT', 10th National Handloom Day Begins at Handloom HAAT, New Delhi

'VIRAASAT', a fortnight long exhibition dedicated to celebrating 10th National Handloom Day began at Handloom Haat in Janpath. National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd (NHDC) is organising the handloom expo under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India which will conclude on August 16, 2024.
The series 'VIRAASAT' - the 'Exclusive Handloom Expo' is a continuation of celebrations held during previous year around the National Handloom Day. This year, the 10th National Handloom Day will be celebrated on August 7. The event focuses on the glorious tradition of Handloom and Handicrafts. It also provides market connect to the handloom weavers and artisans.

Rashtriya Hindi Vigyan Sammelan 2024: Promoting Scientific Research in Hindi

The Rashtriya Hindi Vigyan Sammelan 2024, which concluded on July 31, continued its tradition as a prominent conference aimed at promoting scientific research in Hindi. Organised by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (CSIR-AMPRI), Bhopal, in collaboration with various institutions including Vijnana Bharati Madhya Bharat Province, Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology, Madhya Pradesh Bhoj (Open) University, CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR), and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi University, the event served as a platform for presenting and discussing scientific work in Hindi.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, who emphasised the significance of advancing knowledge and science in one's own language. He expressed hope for the conference to evolve into an international event, underscoring the potential of achieving global recognition through knowledge and science communicated in Hindi.

Historic Sites in South Africa Linked to Liberation Struggle, Nelson Mandela Gets UNESCO World He...

A set of historic sites in South Africa associated with the country's liberation struggle and human rights crusader Nelson Mandela was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Members of the South African delegation broke into impromptu celebrations as soon as the announcement was made during a session of the World Heritage Committee here.
The nomination named 'Human Rights, Liberation Struggle and Reconciliation: Nelson Mandela Legacy Sites' was put forth by the African country.

Japan's Sado Gold Mine Gains UNESCO Status

The UNESCO World Heritage committee decided to register Japan's controversial Sado gold mine as a cultural heritage site. The country agreed to include it in an exhibit of its dark history of abusing Korean laborers during World War II. The decision signals an improvement in ties between Tokyo and Seoul.
The mine on an island off the coast of Niigata in northern Japan operated for nearly 400 years and was once the world's largest gold producer before closing in 1989. It was also linked to Japan's wartime abuse of Korean labourers.

Sunken Museum at Humayun's Tomb Site in Delhi Inaugurated

The country's first sunken museum at the Humayun Tomb complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in Delhi was inaugurated.
Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurated the new museum in the presence of Prince Rahim Aga Khan.
The inauguration coincided with the ongoing 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
The museum, whose layout is inspired by the medieval 'baolis', or traditional water tanks, showcases the legacy of Mughal Emperor Humayun, including lesser-known facets of his life, and the heritage of the Nizamuddin area over the last seven centuries.

EAM Jaishankar Unveils Commemorative Postage Stamp of Ram Lalla in Laos

During his three day visit to Laos, the External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar unveiled a special commemorative stamp set showcasing Ram Lalla's idol from Ayodhya.
Being touted as the first postage stamp in the world to be dedicated to Lord Ram's Ayodhya idol.
The set which comprises two stamps has Lord Ram's Ayodhya idol's image on one and on the other stamp, Lord Buddha is depicted.
Jaishankar is in Laos to attend the Foreign Ministers' Meetings under the ASEAN union.
