Prof Priti Saxena is Vice-Chancellor of HPNLU Shimla

  • Prof. Priti Saxena was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla
  • The appointment notification was issued by Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice and University Chancellor Rajiv Shakdher.
  • Prof. Saxena has been hired for a period of five years or until she attains the age of sixty-five years.
  • She succeeded Nishtha Jaswal as Vice-Chancellor of HPNLU, Shimla.
  • Saxena earned her law degree from Rohilkhand University, Bareilly and her PhD in Law from Kumaun University, Nainital. She has previously held the post of Dean, School for Legal Studies at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow.

IIM-Indore, Emeritus Launch Executive Programme in Business Management

  • The Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM-Indore) and ed-tech company Emeritus announced launch of their Executive Programme in Business Management. The 10-month long programme starts from December 2024.
  • The executive programme at IIM Indore is designed for mid-career professionals seeking to advance into management roles. As per IIM Indore, the new programme is tailored for early managers and team leaders aiming to develop a multidimensional view of business management, as well as for consultants and entrepreneurs looking to leverage critical management insights to tackle complex business challenges.

IIT Madras, French University Partner to Offer Bio-manufacturing Course

  • The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is partnering with University of Tours, France, to offer a course on 'Sustainable Bio-Manufacturing of high-value Phytochemicals'.
  • This course is being offered through the 'Global Initiative of Academic Networks' (GIAN) programme to promote collaboration with international universities.
  • The course is in line with the vision of the Government of India's 'BioE3' Policy, which aims to promote and facilitate Large-scale Manufacturing of Bio-products for Sustainable Development with High-Performance Biomanufacturing.
  • The course deals with sustainable biomanufacturing of high-value plant-derived natural products using plant and microbial bio-factories, which can also conserve nature while fulfilling the increasing market demand for phytochemicals for various commercial applications.

ISB Only Indian Institute to Rank in FT's Executive MBA Rankings 2024

  • The Indian School of Business bagged 40th position in the Financial Times (FT) Executive MBA (EMBA) Ranking 2024. Under the rankings, the Institute was ranked 8 in the alumni network, and 19 in the percentage of salary increase among other parameters. It is also the only business school in India which made its place in FT Rankings 2024.
  • After maintaining the second position in the 2023 and 2022 rankings, China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) climbed up to number one rank. The B-school under its salary increase percentage saw an increase of 102 per cent and has a work experience rank of 9. Under overall programme satisfaction, it scored 9.39.
  • Further, ESCP Business School ranked second followed by Washington University (Olin), IESE Business School, Trium: HEC Paris/LSE/NYU (Stern), MIT (Sloan), Arizona State University, EMBA-Global (Columbia/LBS), Insead, and China's Fudan University School of Management.

Top Day School Ranking: Noida Leads

  • The latest school rankings by Cfore, a trusted organisation for education and research in India, were released, showcasing the Top 10-Day Schools with an Indian Curriculum. This annual ranking, conducted between March and July 2024, provides a comprehensive evaluation of schools across the country, offering insights into where quality education thrives.
  • This year (2024), Step by Step School in Noida emerged as the best day school in India, while The Valley School in Bengaluru and Heritage Xperiential Learning School in Gurugram were jointly ranked second.
  • Cfore's survey was conducted across 92 cities and assessed schools on 14 key parameters. These parameters covered a wide spectrum of factors important to both parents and educators.
  • While Noida, Bengaluru, and Gurugram dominated the top three, the other seven schools which made the top 10 are: Sanskriti School, Delhi, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Delhi, La Martiniere for Boys, Kolkata, Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai, The Shri Ram School, Delhi, Mallya Aditi International School, Bengaluru and Vasant Valley School, Delhi.

French Institute Ecole Polytechnique Signs Agreements with Two IITs

  • A leading academic institution in France signed specific agreements with two IITs to foster a deeper exchange of knowledge between the two countries.
  • The agreements were signed during the visit of President and Director General of Ecole Polytechnique, Laura Chaubard, to India.
  • Ecole Polytechnique was founded in 1794 with the aim of providing the country with engineers trained to the highest level.
  • Ecole Polytechnique signed specific agreements with IIT-Delhi and IIT-Bombay.
  • Based on these agreements, Ecole Polytechnique reinforced its relationship with IIT-Delhi, and explored collaboration with IIT Bombay.

India Launches 'Study in India' Campaign at UAE Education Show

  • India officially launched its 'Study in India' campaign at the 20th International Education Show in Sharjah, aiming to attract international students to its universities. The initiative, organised by EdCIL under the Ministry of Education, is a significant step in positioning India as a global education hub. The India Pavilion was inaugurated by Ahmed Mohamed Obaid Al Naboodah from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Yatin Patil, Deputy Consul General of India in Dubai.
  • The 'Study in India' program highlights over 590 Indian universities, offering diverse courses along with benefits like fee waivers and scholarships. This initiative underscores India's commitment to providing quality education at affordable rates, particularly for students from developing countries.
  • Dr. B. Chandrashekhar, Executive Director of EdCIL, emphasised the importance of the Study in India portal, which streamlines the application process for international students. This centralised platform allows students to explore programs, apply to various institutions, and manage visas in one place. The program also encourages joint academic and research initiatives with international institutions.
  • The International Education Show, organised in collaboration with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, is one of the fastest-growing higher education exhibitions, featuring over 100 universities from more than 20 countries. This event not only showcases educational opportunities but also highlights India's evolving role in global education.

IIT Madras Launches Quantitative Research Lab

  • The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) launched a new research lab focused on Quantitative Finance. AlphaGrep Securities, a quantitative trading and investment firm, is providing CSR Funding of Rs. 5.65 crore towards the establishment of this lab.
  • The 'AlphaGrep Quantitative Research Lab' will conduct Exploratory Research Projects in the areas of AI for quantitative finance, including research in financial markets and its microstructure, quantitative investment management and quantitative risk management, among other areas.

DU Colleges Plan to Offer Diplomas, Certification Courses in East Asian Languages

  • Three Delhi University, DU colleges, are likely to introduce advanced diploma and certification programmes in East Asian languages. Ramjas College, Hansraj College, and Ram Lal Anand College have submitted proposals to the university's Academic Council to launch these new courses.
  • The Academic Council is set to meet on October 10 to review various policy proposals and report approvals from the Vice Chancellor.
  • As per the proposal, Ramjas College will offer an Advanced Diploma in Korean (KP-3), while Hansraj College aims to introduce a Certificate Course in Chinese (CP-1) along with Diploma courses in Korean (KP-2) and Japanese (JP-2).
  • Ram Lal Anand College will introduce Advanced Diplomas in Chinese (CP-3) and Japanese (JP-3). These programmes will be offered by the colleges under the Department of East Asian Studies.
  • The decision to launch these diploma and certificate courses was based on recommendations from the Faculty of Social Sciences during its August meeting.

IISc Bangalore Position Slips in Times Higher Education's World University Rankings 2025

  • Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, slipped to the 251-300 band in the latest Times Higher Education's World University Rankings 2025, which were released. While it retained its position as the top Indian university, IISc failed to enter the global top 250.
  • The rankings of Anna University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences and Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences improved with all four entering the 401-500 band.
  • The University of Oxford retained the number one position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for the ninth year in a row followed by MIT. Moreover, US and UK universities dominate the top 10 position.
  • The UK-based Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 feature 2092 universities from over 100 countries and regions.

Jharkhand Doubles Students' Quota for Overseas Scholarships

  • The Jharkhand government doubled the quota of students eligible for the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Overseas Scholarship scheme from 25 to 50.
  • This was approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

NCERT Partners with Amazon for K-12 Books; to Triple-fold Publication of Textbooks

  • The National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will triple-fold the publication of textbooks and print 15 crore books this year, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced. The announcement was made at an event for the signing of a Letter of Engagement between NCERT and Amazon.
  • This partnership, formalised through a Letter of Engagement (LoE), guarantees that NCERT books will be available at Maximum Retail Price (MRP) across all serviceable pin codes in India, while ensuring that students have access to genuine learning material and resources.
