IIT Madras Researchers Develop Platform to Help Start-ups Access Government Funding

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras researchers at the Centre for Research on Start-ups and Risk Financing (CREST) developed an 'Intelligence Platform on Government Funding Schemes for Start-ups' to boost the start-up sector.
Developed and implemented in partnership with YNOS, an IIT Madras-incubated start-up, the government funding platform for start-ups brings together the entire spectrum of start-up schemes from the government to the doorsteps of the entrepreneur.
The platform has been developed based on several years of research and data collected by a team led by Professor Thillai Rajan, Principal Investigator of CREST, and the faculty of the Department of Management Studies, IIT Madras.
The portal will help entrepreneurs to get a comprehensive understanding of the government funding landscape for start-ups.

Justice Ravindra Bhat Appointed Distinguished Professor by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar NLU, Sonepat

The Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat, appointed Justice Shripathi Ravindra Bhat as a Distinguished Professor and Faculty member.

NCERT Panel Approves Proposal to Replace 'India' with 'Bharat

A high-level committee for social sciences, constituted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to revise the school curriculum, has recommended replacing the name 'India' with 'Bharat' in textbooks and introducing 'classical History' instead of ancient History in the curriculum, the committee's chairperson CI Issac said.
The Article 1(1) of the Constitution already states 'India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States'.
"The term India started being used commonly only after the establishment of the East India Company and the battle of Plassey in 1757," he said. Therefore, the committee has unanimously recommended that the name 'Bharat' should be used in textbooks for students across classes, said Issac.

Airbus, IIT Kanpur sign MoU to Promote Aerospace Education and Innovation in India

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) and Airbus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate increased collaboration in developing education programmes with a focus on research to foster talent development in the Indian aerospace sector.
Under the collaboration, both entities will promote research in advanced technologies and develop programmes and activities to enhance technical capabilities for aerospace students in India. Both organisations will also explore collaboration opportunities with global institutes where students will get to work on projects relevant to the sector.
The partnership aims to build a collaborative culture that provides mentorship, exposure and invaluable experience to the students of IIT Kanpur.

Global Teacher Prize 2023: West Bengal Teacher among Top 10 Finalists

Deep Narayan Nayak, a teacher from West Bengal, was announced as a top 10 finalist from across 130 countries in the USD 1 million Global Teacher Prize 2023.
Deep Narayan, from Tilka Manjhi Adivasi Free Primary School in Jamuria, Asansol, earned the title of "Teacher of the Streets" during the COVID-19 lockdown, when he moved classrooms outside and helped bridge the digital divide for disadvantaged children living below the poverty line in remote communities, empowering those with learning disabilities, counselling students and their parents, and improving literacy rates among adult learners.
Now (2023) in its eighth year, the annual prize is organised by the UK-based Varkey Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO and in strategic partnership with Dubai Cares, a UAE-based global philanthropic organisation.
Deep Narayan Nayak made the cut for developing innovative teaching methods that have transformed the lives of underprivileged children facing educational and social challenges. Amidst the pandemic, he turned mud walls into blackboards and roads into classrooms, bridging the digital divide for marginalised students.

Ten Indian Institutes in Top 250: QS World University Rankings 2024 (MBA)

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore is the top B school in India and ranked 48th in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (WUR) 2024 for Global MBA and Business Master's. The Stanford GSB's MBA topped the list while The Wharton School and the Harvard Business School were placed in the second and third positions. As many as 10 Indian MBA colleges are among the top 250 institutes in Asia.
The QS World University Rankings were released for the MBA programmes. In the QS Global Full-Time MBA Rankings 2024, IIM Bangalore improved its rank from 50th in 2023 rankings to 48th in 2024. IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta were ranked in the 53rd and 59th ranks, respectively.
As many as two Indian MBA institutes were among the world's 50 best for employability. IIM Bangalore was placed 39th globally and 4th highest in Asia, followed by IIM Calcutta in 46th, ranking 7th in Asia.

Unregistered Madrasas in Muzaffarnagar to be Penalised Rs. 10,000 per Day

Uttar Pradesh's basic education department issued a notice stating that madrasas found operating in Muzaffarnagar district without registration will have to pay a penalty of Rs. 10,000 per day. The notice was issued by an officer of the basic education department to over a dozen madrasas operating without proper registration and they were asked to produce relevant documents.
According to officials, there are about 24,000 madrasas in Uttar Pradesh, of which 16,000 are recognised and 8,000 unrecognised.

NMC Orders Colleges to Submit Details of PG Students Admitted for 2023-24 Session

The National Medical Commission (NMC) asked the postgraduate medical colleges and institutes offering PG programmes to submit details of the students admitted in Postgraduate programmes – broad and super specialty during the 2023-24 academic session.
The commission also said that the medical colleges will be required to make sure that the PG medical admission has been done in terms of parameters including the National Eligibility Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG), sanctioned seat capacity, procedure for selection of candidates, cut-off date and payment of stipend.

IIT Roorkee GNEC Hosts Institutional 'Indo-German Partnership Workshop'

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), the International Relations Office, IIT Roorkee organised a workshop in IIT Roorkee Greater Noida Centre (GNEC). GNEC is another campus of the institute located in NCR region.
IIT Roorkee organised the 'Indo-German Partnership Workshop' to enhance scientific cooperation and fortify the bonds between Indian and German institutions. The overarching theme for the event was 'Bridging Horizons: Indo-German Scientific Collaboration at IIT Roorkee', with two distinct sessions.
The first session, titled 'German Excellence: Unveiling Scientific Opportunities', served as a platform to showcase the endeavors, projects, research domains, and plans of various German stakeholders, universities, and funding agencies.
The second session, on 'IIT Roorkee - Forging Pathways to Strengthen Cooperation', highlighted IIT Roorkee's research capabilities, infrastructure, and areas of expertise.

BITS Goa to Host 'Waves 2023'

BITS Goa cultural festival, Waves 2023, will be held on October 27, 28 and 29. The event will begin with a comedy night which will be headlined by Abhishek Upmanyu, a known stand-up comedian.
Waves is the annual cultural festival of BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus. It is a three days long festival usually held in the late October – early November period. It is a cultural festival that is held to celebrate music, dance and art.
Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani – Goa Campus is one of the five constituent campuses of the BITS Pilani located in Goa. BITS Goa was established in the year 2004 as an Institute of excellence in technology and sciences.

Arvind Sahay Joins as the Director of Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon

Prof Arvind Sahay joined as the Director of Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon. Before joining MDI Gurgaon, Prof. Sahay held the position of Professor of Marketing at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A).
Prof. Sahay has made contributions to IIM Ahmedabad as a teacher, researcher, consultant and administrator. He served as the Founding Chairperson of the NSE Center for Behavioral Sciences and the India Gold Policy Centre Chairperson at IIM Ahmedabad just before his joining MDI.

IIM Bangalore's Team Horizon Wins the First Edition of Air India's SOAR

Team Horizon of IIM Bangalore won the top honours of the National Champion in the first edition of SOAR (Spirit of Aviation Reimagined), Air India's business challenge-based annual nationwide B-school competition that saw 27 premier business schools vying for the top honours.
According to a release by Air India, SOAR is part of its campus outreach initiative to engage with young talent and students are being offered an insight into Air India's transformation journey to inspire them to be part of the new Air India.

IIM Kashipur Inks MoU with Atal Tinkering Lab to Foster Innovation among Students

The Design Innovation Centre (DIC) of the Indian Institute of Management Kashipur signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Atal Tinkering Lab of The Gurukul Foundation School, Kashipur to foster a culture of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship in young students.
The MoU signing occurred at the IIM Kashipur campus, where Professor Kumkum Bharti, Coordinator DIC, and Neeraj Kapoor, Chairman of ATL-TGFS, penned the agreement. Professor Kulbhushan Balooni, Director of IIM Kashipur, and Ramesh Chandra Arya, Chief Education Officer, Udham Singh Nagar District, Government of Uttarakhand, were also present.
The MoU aims to facilitate the exchange of skills and resources between DIC and ATL in creating and elevating the landscape of innovation and design thinking in schools by encouraging knowledge and resource exchange for design-led innovation and skill-building. It also aims to facilitate engagement among both institutions by conducting research and development projects, skill-building programs, training programmes, and workshops.
