Vinod Kumar Shukla Selected for 59th Jnanpith Award

  • Eminent Hindi writer Vinod Kumar Shukla was named the recipient of the 59th Jnanpith Award, India's highest literary honour. At 88 years old, he was recognised for his outstanding contribution to Hindi literature, with a unique writing style that blends linguistic creativity and emotional depth. Notably, he is the first author from Chhattisgarh to receive this prestigious award and the 12th Hindi writer to be honoured with it.
  • The decision was taken by the Jnanpith Selection Committee, chaired by Pratibha Ray, along with members like Madhav Kaushik, Damodar Mauzo, Prabha Varma, Anamika, A Krishna Rao, Prafful Shiledar, Janki Prasad Sharma, and Madhusudan Anand.
  • The award includes a cash prize of Rs. 11 lakh, a bronze Saraswati statue, and a citation.
  • Established in 1961, the Jnanpith Award was first given in 1965 to Malayalam poet G. Sankara Kurup for his work "Odakkuzhal".

Mumbai Cricket Association Honours Dilip Vengsarkar, Diana Edulji with Lifetime Achievement Awards

  • The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) conferred cricket legends Dilip Vengsarkar and Diana Edulji with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for their extraordinary contributions to the sport. Vengsarkar and Edulji have been key contributors of Mumbai and Indian cricket, not only as players but also as administrators.
  • The awards were presented in the presence of C. P. Radhakrishnan, Governor of Maharashtra, and Ashish Shelar, Minister of Information Technology & Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra, along with MCA President Ajinkya Naik and members of the Apex Council.

Chiranjeevi Honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award by UK Government

  • Veteran Telugu cinema superstar Chiranjeevi was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his immense contribution to Indian cinema, cultural influence, and public service. The award was presented by London-based think tank Bridge India at the prestigious House of Commons in the UK Parliament. The event took place where the celebrated actor was recognised for his unparalleled impact on the Indian film industry and his philanthropic efforts.

Statue of Unity Sculptor Ram Sutar Conferred with Maharashtra Bhushan Award

  • Renowned sculptor Ram Sutar, best known for designing the Statue of Unity, was honoured with the Maharashtra Bhushan award. The decision was announced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the state Legislative Assembly. A selection committee led by Fadnavis finalised Sutar's name for the award.

Tripura Bags SKOCH Award for College Biotech Club Project

  • The Tripura Biotechnology Department bagged the SKOCH award for its college biotech club project, Science, Technology and Environment Minister Animesh Debbarma said.
  • Nearly 400 projects from 27 different states were submitted for the award. The final results were announced after the evaluation of these projects at different levels.

Vijay Sankar Honoured with Denmark's Knight's Cross

  • Vijay Sankar, the Honorary Consul General of Denmark for Southern India and Chairman of The Sanmar Group, was awarded the prestigious Knight's Cross of the Order of Dannebrog by the King of Denmark. This honour recognises his remarkable consular services and contributions to strengthening Indo-Danish relations. The award was presented by Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, Ambassador of Denmark in India, at a special function in Chennai.

President of India Presents Ramnath Goenka Excellence IN Journalism Awards

  • The President of India, Droupadi Murmu presented the 19th Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards at a function held in New Delhi.
  • The President said that the importance of free and fair journalism for democracy cannot be overestimated. If the citizens are not well-informed, the democratic processes lose their very meaning.
  • Instituted by the Ramnath Goenka Foundation, the awards acknowledge and honour the best of journalism showcasing 20 outstanding contributions from print, digital and broadcast journalists across 13 categories, including investigative journalism, sports, politics and government, books, feature writing and regional languages.

RBI Wins Digital Transformation Award 2025 by UK's Central Banking

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) won the Digital Transformation Award 2025 from Central Banking, London, highlighting the role of digital innovation in strengthening India's financial ecosystem.
  • RBI was recognised for its Pravaah and Sarthi digital initiatives, developed by its in-house team. These initiatives have significantly reduced paper-based submissions, streamlining RBI's internal and external processes.

Hockey India Annual Awards 2024

  • Harmanpreet Singh and Savita Punia claimed top honours at the Hockey India Annual Awards 2024 in New Delhi.
  • Harmanpreet and Savita won the Balbir Singh Sr Award for Player of the Year in the men's and women's categories, respectively.
  • In men's hockey, Harmanpreet led India to its second consecutive bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He was also a part of the Tokyo Games bronze medal-winning side.
  • In women's hockey, Savita was a member of the Indian team that came agonisingly close to winning a bronze in the Tokyo Olympics. The team had lost the third-place match to Great Britain. It was double celebration for Savita as she also won the Hockey India Baljit Singh Goalkeeper of the Year award for 2024. This was the third time that Savita won the award.
  • The seventh Hockey India Annual Awards were held to commemorate 100 years of Indian hockey and also to celebrate the country's World Cup win in 1975 in Kuala Lumpur.
  • The award ceremony was attended by former Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey and secretary general Bhola Nath Singh, among others.
