Viacom 18 Bags India's Home Series Broadcast Rights

Viacom 18 created a near monopoly in Indian cricket broadcasting sphere by bagging both TV and digital rights of the national team's home series for the next five years with a cumulative bid of approximately Rs. 6000 crore, beating Star India and Sony in a three-way battle.
The BCCI had invited separate e-bids for both linear (TV) and digital for best price discovery.

FIFA Suspends Spain Soccer Federation President Luis Rubiales

FIFA suspended Spanish soccer federation president Luis Rubiales from office while its disciplinary committee investigates his conduct at the Women's World Cup final, which included kissing a player on the lips without her consent.
The ruling comes six days after Rubiales was accused of becoming a national embarrassment in front of a global audience at the final in Sydney, Australia — overshadowing the enormous accomplishment of Spain women's first World Cup title.

Zhang Zhizhen Becomes First Chinese Man to Beat a Player in the Top Five of the ATP Rankings

Zhang Zhizhen became the first Chinese man to beat a player ranked in the world's top five since the introduction of the ATP rankings in 1973 by stunning last year's (2022) runner-up Casper Ruud 6-4 5-7 6-2 0-6 6-2 in the U.S. Open second round.

Maharashtra Govt. Signs MoU with Germany's Professional Association Football League

The Maharashtra Government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Germany's professional association football league, 'Bundesliga', to build a football team for players under the age of 14.
The agreement was signed by Ranjit Singh Deol, Principal Secretary, Department of School Education and Sports, and Mrs. Julia Farr, representative of the Bundesliga, on behalf of the Government of Maharashtra. It will help young footballers to develop their skills and potentially compete at a high level.

An Se-young and Kunlavut Vitidsarn Claim Historic First World Titles in Copenhagen

An Se-young defeated Carolina Marin and become the Republic of Korea's first women's singles world champion.
The world number one, playing in her 11th final from 12 tournaments this year (2023), beat Marin 21-12, 21-10 at the BWF World Championships in Copenhagen.
Kunlavut Vitidsarn made history as well becoming Thailand's first men's singles world champion after a marathon final against Naraoka Kodai.

Indian Women's Visually Challenged Cricket Team Wins Gold at World Cup 2023

The visually challenged Indian women's cricket team scripted history winning a gold medal beating Australia by nine wickets at the IBSA World Games.
India restricted Australia for 114/8 in the allotted 20 overs and then chased down the revised target of 42 in 3.3 overs. Cricket for visually challenged made its debut in International Blind Sports Federation World Games this year. This was the first final in the World Games and India won the ultimate showdown beating Australia by nine wickets in a rain-affected final.

H.S. Prannoy Wins Bronze Medal at BWF World Championships

Indian badminton player H.S. Prannoy secured the bronze medal in the men's singles category at the prestigious BWF World Badminton Championships 2023. Despite a valiant effort, Prannoy was eliminated in the semi-finals that took place in Copenhagen, Denmark. His remarkable journey in the tournament showcased his skill and determination on the international stage.
World No. 9 H. S. Prannoy lost 21-18, 13-21, 14-21 to Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn, third in the badminton rankings.

The Indian men's 4x400m relay team shattered Asian record in a stunning race, clocking 2 minute 59.05 seconds and qualified for its maiden final round of the World Championships in Budapest.
The Indian quartet of Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Ajmal Variyathodi and Rajesh Ramesh finished second in heat number one behind USA (2:58.47) to make it to the final.
The earlier Asian record of 2:59.51 was in the name of Japanese team.

Neeraj Chopra, in a historic moment for Indian athletics, clinched the gold medal with a stellar throw of 88.17 meters in the men's javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary. The 'golden boy of Indian athletics' etched his name in history by becoming the first-ever Indian athlete to secure a gold medal at this prestigious championship.
