Divya Deshmukh Emerges Winner of 2023 Tata Steel Chess India Women's Rapid Tournament
Divya Deshmukh, a Chess Woman Grandmaster hailing from Nagpur, Maharashtra, India clinched victory in the women's category of the rapid section at the Tata Steel Chess India tournament. She dominated the competition by securing victories in all three rounds of the tournament, which took place at the National Library in Kolkata.
Deshmukh secured the top position with a remarkable score of 7 points, while the reigning world champion, Ju Wenjun of China, closely followed with 6.5 points. Russia's Polina Shuvalova finished third with a score of 5.5 points.
China's Jiang Huihua Breaks Mirabai Chanu's World Record
Chinese lifter Jiang Huihua obliterated Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu's clean-and-jerk world record by lifting 120 kg at the World Championships.
Huihua bettered Chanu's record of 119 kg, which the Indian had created at the 2021 Asian Championships, in the women's 49 kg clean and jerk section as she successfully defended her World Championships crown.
The Chinese lifter also created a new world record for the total lift as she heaved 215kg, two kilograms better than the previous world mark (213kg) which was in her compatriot and reigning Olympic champion Hou Zhihui's name.

In Hockey, India beat Pakistan in penalty shootout in the final and won the inaugural Men's Hockey 5s Asia Cup 2023 in Salalah, Oman. Mohun Bagan Wins Durand Cup Title for First Time after 23 Years
A moment of sheer brilliance from Dimitri Petratos proved decisive as 10-man Mohun Bagan beat arch-rivals East Bengal 1-0 in a fiercely contested final to clinch Durand Cup title for the first time after 23 years.
Mohun Bagan were one-man down after Anirudh Thapa was sent off in the 62nd minute, but they still scored the decisive goal through a brilliant solo effort from Petratos in the 71st minute.
This was Mohun Bagan's 17th Durand Cup title. They last won the title in 2000 when they beat Mahindra United via a golden goal.
Bhubaneswar, Guwahati to Host India's First Two FIFA World Cup Qualifiers
Bhubaneswar and Guwahati will host India's opening two home matches in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027 Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 2, the All India Football Federation announced.
India has been drawn in Group A of the Asian qualifiers, alongside Qatar, Kuwait, and the winners of the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 fixture between Afghanistan and Mongolia.
The Blue Tigers will open their campaign against with an away fixture in Kuwait on November 16 before hosting reigning AFC Asian Cup champions Qatar at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, on November 21.
The following year, India will play back-to-back matches against Afghanistan or Mongolia, starting with the away fixture on March 21 and then return home to the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati, where they will play the second leg of the fixture on March 26.
Heath Streak, Former Zimbabwe Cricket Team Captain, Dies
Former Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak passed away passed away. He was 49.
Streak was the captain of Zimbabwe between 2000 and 2004. In 68 ODIs as captain, he led Zimbabwe to win in 18 and lost 47 while three finished without any result. In 21 Tests, Streak captained Zimbabwe to wins in four while they lost 11 and drew six.
Heath Streak was the first Zimbabwe cricketer to claim 100 wickets in Tests and ODIs. He is also the only cricketer from Zimbabwe to achieving the elusive feat of taking 100 Test wickets and scoring 1000 Test runs. Streak was also the only cricketer from his country to score 2000 runs and bag 200 wickets in the ODIs.

Neeraj Chopra Finishes Second in Zurich Diamond League
Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra finished second while long jumper M. Sreeshankar bagged fifth place at the Diamond League meeting in Zurich.
Neeraj, who became the first-ever Indian athlete to win a gold medal at World Athletics Championships in Budapest, finished behind Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch in the men's javelin throw event. Vadlejch had won a bronze in the World Championships.
Govt. to Set up 1,000 Khelo India Centres in Country within a Year
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur announced that one thousand Khelo India Centres will be established within a year in the country.
Launching key initiatives on Indian Sports in New Delhi, the Minister said that it will not only provide employment opportunities to former athletes but also give budding sportspersons a chance to take guidance from the veterans. Thakur also informed that the each player will receive five lakh rupees to procure equipments for their centres and per year another five lakh rupees for operational expenses.

Akashdeep Misses Out as HI Announces Asiad Teams
Veteran striker Akashdeep Singh was not included in the 18-member Indian men's hockey team selected for the upcoming Asian Games.
Akashdeep had finished as India's second-best scorer behind drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh at the Asian Champions Trophy held in Chennai. Harmanpreet and Hardik Singh will be the captain and vice-captain, respectively.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Savita Punia will lead the 18-member women's team even as veteran midfielder Navjot Kaur, who captained India at the Hockey 5s World Cup qualifiers recently, missed out.
