Smriti Irani Launches Improved Guidelines for 'Jiyo Parsi' Scheme

  • Union Minister Smriti Irani launched a revamped 'Jiyo Parsi' scheme and the Avesta-Pahlavi Language Centre at the Mumbai University during an event.
  • Jiyo Parsi is a central sector scheme launched in 2013-14 to arrest the population decline of the Parsi Community by adopting a scientific protocol and structured interventions.
  • The Minister highlighted the importance of the revival of languishing languages, especially those related to notified minority communities. The Ministry of Minority Affairs in collaboration with Mumbai University aims to establish the Centre and required infrastructure for undertaking certificate courses, diploma courses, and PhD programs.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi Unveils Coal Logistics Plan and Policy

  • Aiming at transporting coal seamlessly across the country, the Union Ministry of Coal has drafted a logistics plan and policy in consultation with all stakeholders in the supply chain.
  • The plan, called 'Coal Logistics Plan and Policy' and unveiled by Union Minister for Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi, will bring together all agencies involved in mining, transport, monitoring, and usage on a single digital smart platform.
  • The stakeholders that are part of the planning include the Ministry of Railways; Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways; Coal India; NTPC; NITI Aayog; and private coal miners.

Nagaland Govt. Announces Universal Life Insurance Scheme

  • Nagaland government announced a fully-funded universal life insurance scheme to mitigate financial hardship due to untimely demise of a family's breadwinner. The comprehensive scheme is part of the Budget tabled in the state assembly by Chief Minister and Minister in Charge Finance Neiphiu Rio.
  • The Chief Minister's Universal Life Insurance Scheme will be fully funded by the state government.
  • This scheme is a testament of the state's continued commitment towards ensuring the financial security and protection of its citizens, complementing the Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme introduced in the previous budget.
  • The scheme will provide life insurance coverage for the breadwinner of the family and accidental insurance coverage for three other members of every family in the state.

Defence Minister Approves Financial Incentive Scheme for Armed Forces Personnel Excelling in Asia...

  • Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh demonstrated unwavering support for Armed Forces personnel who excelled in the 19th Asian Games and 4th Asian Para Games, held in Hangzhou, China, during September-October 2023. In a landmark move, the Ministry of Defence announced a Financial Incentive Scheme to reward the Medal Winners, aiming to foster Recognition and Motivation among these athletes as they prepare for the Paris Olympics Games 2024.
  • Under this initiative, Gold medal winners in both the Asian Games and Asian Para Games will receive a Cash Reward of Rs. 25 lakh each, Silver medal winners will be awarded Rs. 15 lakh each, and Bronze medal winners will receive Rs. 10 lakh each.
  • This is the first time that the Ministry of Defence has introduced such a Financial Incentive Scheme for Armed Forces Personnel participating in sporting events.
  • The announcement of this scheme underscores the government's commitment to nurturing sporting talent within the Armed Forces and providing them with the necessary support to excel on the global stage.

KPDCL Extends Amnesty Scheme for Domestic Consumers in Jammu & Kashmir

  • KPDCL (Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited) extended its amnesty scheme for domestic consumers in Jammu & Kashmir. The scheme allows consumers to clear outstanding electricity dues in easy instalments without late payment surcharges. Disconnected connections can be restored by paying only the principal amount.
  • KPDCL instructed its staff to finalise the list of eligible domestic consumers who can avail benefits under the extended amnesty scheme.
  • This ensures transparency and facilitates smooth implementation of the scheme.
  • The Managing Director of Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL), Shiv Anant Tayal, introduced the Power Amnesty Scheme in 2022.
  • The scheme aimed to waive 100 per cent interest surcharge accumulated on outstanding bills until March 2022 for domestic consumers.
  • It provided an opportunity for consumers to clear their dues in instalments by September 2023, thus avoiding penalties, legal actions, and power disconnections.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Launches Mission Shakti Loan Scheme

  • Ahead of the upcoming general elections for Lok Sabha and Odisha assembly, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched under the Mission Shakti loan scheme for interest-free loans of up to Rs. 10 lakh for members of self-help groups (SHGs).
  • Patnaik, launched the scheme while inaugurating a Mission Shakti Bazaar, and said that interest-free loans would encourage entrepreneurship among women, advancing the Mission Shakti movement in the state.

Pension Scheme for Those Detained under MISA during Emergency to be Restored in Chhattisgarh

  • Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that the pension for those who were detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) during Emergency between 1975 and 1977 will be restored in the state.
  • The pension scheme for detainees under MISA during Emergency, which was started in the state during the BJP rule in 2008, was withheld by the previous Congress government in 2019.
  • MISA detainees (Lokantra Senani) were given pension ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000 in three different categories.
