IIT Madras Launches 'Nilekani Centre at AI4Bharat' to Promote Indian Language Technology
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras launched the 'Nilekani Centre at AI4Bharat' to promote the state of Indian language technology with the intention to create a societal impact. This Centre, inaugurated by Nandan Nilekani, is supported by Rohini and Nandan Nilekani with a grant of Rs. 36 crore through Nilekani Philanthropies.
The AI4Bharat was set-up as an initiative of IIT Madras to build open-source language AI for Indian languages.

IGNOU Launches New MBA, MCom Programmes in Online Mode
Open university IGNOU's School of Management Studies launched four new MBA programmes in functional specialisation areas and MCom programme in the online mode from the July 2022 session.
The candidates can choose and join an MBA programme in any functional specialisation in Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Financial Management, and Operations Management. The MCom programme would also help working professionals.
As per Prof Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU, all these programmes have been revised as per today's requirements and are in line with the recommendations of NEP 2020.

Rajendra Prasad Singh is New Chairman of IIT Kharagpur Board of Governors
Former Chairman and Managing Director of Power Grid Corporation Rajendra Prasad Singh was appointed as the new Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT Kharagpur.
Apart from being the former Chairman and Managing Director of Power Grid Corporation and Independent Director of Azzure Power Global Ltd, Singh had been the Chairman of the Board for NIT Patna for a period of three years from 2009-2012.
Singh succeeded Sanjiv Goenka, as the new Chairman, IIT Kharagpur. A corporate bigwig Goenka is the founder and chairman of RPSG Group.

Lucknow University Becomes First UP Educational Institute to Get NAAC A++ Rating
In a big achievement for the 102-year-old Lucknow University, it received an A++ rating from NAAC under the direction of Governor Anandiben Patel, Chancellor of State Universities of Uttar Pradesh.
In doing so, the university became the first educational institute in Uttar Pradesh to get a NAAC A rating.
A NAAC A++ rating is the highest rating that can be conferred upon a university. The university was evaluated on various points by NAAC and accredited with a CGPA of 3.55 on a seven point scale.
The NAAC rating will now stand for a period of five years from July 26, 2022, onwards after which it will need to be re-evaluated again.

International Conference on Chemistry and Applications of Soft Materials
The CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram, hosted an International Conference on Chemistry and Applications of Soft Materials (CASM 2022) as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations to mark 75th year of Independence. Discussions on a variety of subjects, including self-assembly and supramolecular materials, soft material chemistry, physics, rheology, and photophysics, responsive and smart materials, gels, liquid crystals, polymers, macromolecules and framework materials, and functional nanomaterials, as well as soft material applications in electronics and energy, took place at the conference.
Around 300 delegates from within the country and abroad attended the conference. Renowned scientist T. Pradeep from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, inaugurated the event.
