World Computer Literacy Day

Every year, World Computer Literacy Day is observed on December 2 worldwide to boost digital literacy and to support the initiatives for offering computer training to those who can't afford it. The day is aimed at empowering women and underprivileged sections of society with knowledge and information to make them a part of an increasingly tech-dependent world.
World Computer Literacy Day is an initiative of NIIT (National Institute of Information Technology), an Indian company. The day was established on December 2, 2001, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the institute.

International Day for the Abolition of Slavery

The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, observed annually on December 2, marks a significant moment in global history. It is a day dedicated to remembering and acknowledging the brutal history of slavery and the ongoing impacts of its legacy. The day originates from the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of the Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others on December 2, 1949. This day serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring struggle against slavery and its modern forms.
The theme for International Day for the Abolition of Slavery 2023 is 'Fighting slavery's legacy of racism through transformative education'.

National Pollution Control Day

The National Pollution Control Day is observed every year on December 2. It is marked in the memory of those who lost their lives in the 1984 Bhopal Gas tragedy that took place on December 2 and 3, 1984. It is estimated that at least 4,000 people died when a pesticide plant by American chemical company Union Carbide's pesticide plant began leaking the toxic methyl isocyanate gas into a populated area in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
Ever since, December 2 has been designated as National Pollution Control Day to raise awareness about how industrial disasters can be prevented and pollution controlled.
The theme for National Pollution Control Day 2023 is 'Sustainable Development for a Clean and Healthy Planet'.

World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day is observed every year on December 1. The day is dedicated to create awareness and educate people about AIDS, and different measures to prevent this incurable and lethal disease.
The first every World AIDS Day was recognised on in 1988 with an intention to create awareness about HIV/AIDS on global level, and commemorate the precious lives lost to this lethal disease.
The theme for World Aids Day 2023 is 'Let Communities Lead'.

Nagaland Celebrates Its 61st Statehood Day

Nagaland, a vibrant state in the north-eastern region of India, celebrated its 61st Statehood Day on December 1, 2023. This marked a significant milestone in the historical journey of the Nagas, who became the 16th state of the Union of India on December 1, 1963.
A notable feature of the celebration was the inauguration of a photo exhibition titled 'Nagaland at 60', organised by the Department of Information & Public Relations. This exhibition provides a visual journey through Nagaland's rich history, capturing the essence of its culture, diversity and progress over the past six decades.

St. Andrew's Day

Saint Andrew's Day, alternatively referred to as the Feast of Saint Andrew or Andermas, is observed on November 30 in accordance with the Gregorian calendar and on December 13 as per the Julian calendar. This day commemorates the feast day of the Apostle Andrew. It honours the Christian disciple of the New Testament and is Scotland's official national holiday.
St. Andrew's Day has been celebrated in Scotland for centuries and is deeply rooted in the country's history and traditions. Saint Andrew is believed to have been an early Christian disciple and martyr, and his connection to Scotland dates back to the 9th century. Over time, he became the patron saint of the nation.

International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is observed by the United Nations on November 29.
The date November 29 was chosen because of its meaning and significance to the Palestinian people. On that day in 1947, the General Assembly adopted resolution 181 (II), which came to be known as the Partition Resolution. That resolution provided for the establishment in Palestine of a 'Jewish State' and an 'Arab State'.

The 42nd India International Trade Fair Concludes

The 42nd India International Trade Fair concluded in New Delhi. Ten lakh domestic and foreign visitors and business persons participated in this 14-day fair. The theme of the fair this year was based on Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. Bihar and Kerala were the partner states of the fair and Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh were the focus states. At the closing ceremony, many awards were conferred to several pavilions and states in different categories.
In the States and Union Territories category, Odisha won the Gold Medal, while the Silver Medal was presented to Assam and the Bronze Medal to Rajasthan.
Madhya Pradesh won the Gold Medal in the Thematic Presentation by the States Category. Tripura bagged Silver Medal and Andhra Pradesh Bronze in the same category.

International Jaguar Day

International Jaguar Day is observed on November 29 every year. It is a day to pay tribute to the largest wild cats and find ways to protect them. It is important to note that the word 'Jaguar' derives from an indigenous word that means 'he who kills with one leap'.
In 2018, International Jaguar Day was conceived by Panthera, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The date, November 29, was chosen to coincide with the birthday of Liso, a jaguar rehabilitated by the Belize Zoo, in Central America, after falling victim to a trap. Liso became a symbol of hope and resilience, inspiring the creation of this international day.

Red Planet Day

Commemorating the day one of the most significant space missions to Mars was launched, November 28 is observed as Red Planet Day. On this day in 1964, the United States launched the space probe Mariner 4 on a course towards Mars, which it flew past in July 1965, sending back pictures of the red planet.
This was the first time that a spacecraft undertook the first flyby of the red planet, becoming the first-ever spacecraft to take close-up photographs of another planet.
