World Fisheries Day

World Fisheries Day is observed annually on November 21st to highlight the importance of sustainable fisheries management and to draw attention to the critical role of small-scale fishers in ensuring food security and livelihoods for millions around the world.
The roots of World Fisheries Day can be traced back to 1997 when the "World Forum of Fish Harvesters & Fish Workers" convened in New Delhi. This landmark gathering led to the formation of the "World Fisheries Forum" with representatives from 18 countries. The forum's founding declaration advocated for a global mandate of sustainable fishing practices and policies, paving the way for the establishment of World Fisheries Day.
The theme for World Fisheries Day 2023 is 'Celebrating the Wealth of Fisheries and Aquaculture'.

World Hello Day

Every year, World Hello Day is celebrated on November 21.
In the 1970s, the conflict between Egypt and Israel became extremely severe. During the Yom Kippur War, thousands of soldiers and civilians were killed. Some soldiers were tortured brutally and executed. As a response to the Yom Kippur War, in 1973, Brian McCormack, a Ph.D. Graduate of Arizona State University, and Michael McCormack, a graduate of Harvard introduced the concept of World Hello Day. The start of a conversation can be a significant instrument in preserving peace and sanity in the world. Since then, World Hello Day is celebrated all over the world.

World Television Day

World Television Day is celebrated every year on November 21. Celebrating World Television Day is important because it helps people understand the history and importance of this electronic device.
The first electric television was introduced in 1927 by Philo Taylor Farnsworth. He was an American inventor who made the television. Later, in 1996, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) officially announced that World Television Day would be celebrated on November 21, every year.
The theme for World Television Day 2023 is 'Accessibility'.

Universal Children's Day

Universal Children's Day, also known as World Children's Day, is celebrated on November 20.
This significant occasion marks the anniversary of two landmark documents that enshrined the fundamental rights of children globally – the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, adopted in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified in 1989.
The idea of a World Children's Day was first proposed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 1925. The ILO was concerned about the plight of children who were being forced into labour and were not receiving an education.
In 1954, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming Universal Children's Day. The date of November 20th was chosen to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.
The theme for World Children's Day 2023 is 'For Every Child, Every Right!'

International Men's Day

International Men's Day is celebrated every year on November 19. However, unlike International Women's Day, the United Nations does not recognise International Men's Day.
The first International Men's Day was observed on February 7, 1992. Subsequently, the date was shifted to November 19 in year 2009.
History professor Dr Jerome Teelucksingh from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago was the first to initiate International Men's Day celebrations in 1999.
Teelucksingh wanted to celebrate the day to commemorate his father's birth anniversary. The professor also encouraged others to use this day to talk about issues that concern men and boys.
The theme for International Men's Day 2023 is 'Zero Male Suicide', which focuses on helping men and boys to manage their mental health.

International Students' Day

International Students' Day, which celebrates the global student community and the challenges faced by international students, is observed on November 17 every year.
International Students' Day is celebrated on November 17, the anniversary of the Nazi invasion of a university in Prague in 1939. The Nazis imprisoned nearly a thousand students, closed the university, and killed and tortured several others. The aim of the day is to honour those students and to raise awareness of the challenges facing us today.
The theme for this year's (2023) International Students' Day is 'FAIL': stands for 'First Attempt in Learning'.

National Epilepsy Day

National Epilepsy Day is celebrated every year on November 17 in India to raise awareness around epilepsy and also its impact on people, families and the society.
This day was founded by the National Epilepsy Foundation of India, a non-profit charitable organisation. The National Epilepsy Foundation of India was founded by Dr. Nirmal Surya in 2008, in Mumbai.

Jharkhand Foundation Day

Jharkhand is the 28th state of India. It was formed on November 15, 2000 after a long-standing tribal movement for statehood. Jharkhand was earlier a part of Bihar, more precisely it was then South Bihar. November 15 is the birth anniversary of tribal leader Birsa Munda who was a part of the tribal movement against the British in the 1870s. He was arrested by the British when he got highly involved in the movement and died in a Ranchi jail at the young age of 25 in 1900. President Droupadi Murmu took part in the state's foundation day celebrations this year (2023) at Morhabadi ground and also visited the birthplace of Munda in Ulihatu village in Khunti district.

National Press Day

National Press Day is observed on November 16, every year, in India to celebrate the importance of a free and responsible press in a democratic society. The day is celebrated to commemorate the establishment of the Press Council of India (PCI) in 1966, which acts as a regulatory body for the news media in the country.
The theme for National Press Day 2023 is 'Media in the Era of Artificial Intelligence'.

International Day for Tolerance

International Day of Tolerance is observed annually on November 16 with the primary aim of promoting mutual understanding and respect among all the diverse cultures and communities across the globe.
International Day for Tolerance was initially established by the United Nations in 1996 to promote understanding among cultures and foster respect for diversity. This day is observed in commemoration of the adoption of the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance by UNESCO member states on November 16, 1995. The declaration highlights that tolerance is important for peace and progress, encouraging societies to recognise the importance of mutual respect and dialogue. It also seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of intolerance and promote education as a means to prevent prejudice and discrimination.
