Justice Vijay Bishnoi Sworn In as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court
Justice Vijay Bishnoi was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious legal career.
The oath-taking ceremony, held at Raj Bhavan, witnessed the Assam Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, administering the oath of office to Justice Vijay Bishnoi. The presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, and other esteemed guests added grandeur to the occasion.
Justice Bishnoi's appointment as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court came following a recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium, underscoring his judicial acumen and integrity. The vacancy arose due to the elevation of Justice Sandeep Mehta to the Supreme Court, further emphasising the significance of Justice Bishnoi's appointment.

Rajendra Prasad Gupta Rajasthan's New Advocate General
Rajasthan welcomed Senior Advocate Rajendra Prasad Gupta as its new Advocate General, following the approval of his appointment by Governor Kalraj Mishra. This appointment marked a significant transition in the state's legal leadership, filling the vacancy left after the change of government in December 2023. Rajendra Prasad Gupta stepped into the role previously held by M. S. Singhvi, on a new chapter as the 19th Advocate General of Rajasthan.
The Office of the Advocate General of Rajasthan was established with the formation of the State of Rajasthan under the States Reorganisation Act 1956, coinciding with the establishment of the Rajasthan High Court. Since its inception, the office has played a crucial role in representing the Government of Rajasthan in legal matters. Late G. C. Kasliwal was the first Advocate General of the state. The principal seat of the Rajasthan High Court is located in Jodhpur, with a division bench in Jaipur.

Justice Arun Kumar Rai Takes Oath as Judge of Jharkhand High Court
Ranchi Judicial Commissioner Arun Kumar Rai took oath as a Judge of the Jharkhand High Court. Acting Chief Justice S. Chandrashekhar administered his oath of office at a function held at the Jharkhand High Court.
The High Court collegium had recommended his elevation on September 2023.
Rai joined the judicial service in May 2012 and served as a judicial officer in various capacities in the state of Jharkhand. Before joining the service, he practised at the Bar for more than 15 years in Delhi at the trial courts and the High Court on the criminal and civil sides.

Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia is Acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court
The Central government notified the appointment of Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia as Acting Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The development followed the appointment of former Acting Chief Justice Ritu Bahri as Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court.
Justice Singh was elevated to the bench in September 2011 as an additional judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and was made permanent in January 2014.
Law Commission of India Submits its Report titled 'Revisiting the Law on Prevention of Damage to ...
The 22nd Law Commission of India submitted its Report No. 284 titled 'Revisiting the Law on Prevention of Damage to Public Property' to the Government of India. The destruction of public property has continued undiminished causing gargantuan losses to the public exchequer and inconvenience to the general public.
Bearing in mind the gravity of the issue and the loss being borne by the state exchequer, the 22nd Law Commission suo motu undertook to prepare this Report.
In pursuance of the same, the Commission undertook an extensive study of the subject, analysing the various relevant constitutional and statutory provisions, the numerous judicial pronouncements by the courts across the country, and the incidents involving large scale destruction of public property.
The 22nd Law Commission recommended several key changes to tackle damage to public property more effectively. These include:
Reversing the burden of proof so that the accused has to prove they are innocent
Introducing fines equal to the market value of damaged public property
Making offenders deposit estimated value of damaged property for bail
Enacting new laws to address willful obstruction of public property

Those whose appointments were notified are Justice Ritu Bahri of Punjab and Haryana HC as CJ of Uttarakhand HC, Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava of Rajasthan HC as CJ of the HC, Justice S. Vaidyanathan of Madras HC as CJ of Meghalaya HC, Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh of Patna HC as CJ of Orissa HC, Justice Vijay Bishnoi of the Rajasthan HC as CJ of the Gauhati HC and Justice Arun Bhansali of Rajasthan HC as CJ of Allahabad HC.
