Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri Crowned Miss World 2025 in Hyderabad

  • Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri was crowned Miss World 2025 at a grand finale event held in Hyderabad, Telangana. She edged out Ethiopia's Hasset Dereje Admassu, who finished as the runner-up.
  • She was crowned by the reigning Miss World, Krystyna Pyszkova of the Czech Republic.
  • It was the 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant.
  • Chuangsri emerged as the winner among 107 national representatives from across the globe. This is Thailand's first win at the Miss World pageant.
  • India's Nandini Gupta, who represented the country this year, did not make it to the Top 8 finalists.

Valmik Thapar, Wildlife Conservationist, Tiger-Advocate, Passes Away at 73

  • Valmik Thapar, an eminent wildlife – and tiger-conservationist of India and an author, passed away at 73.
  • He was well known for his evocative photographs and scholarly ouvre of nearly 50 books on the tiger – particularly those in Ranthambore, Rajasthan- for nearly four decades.
  • He had served on several government committees, was member of the National Board for Wildlife, a Supreme Court empowered committee on wildlife and, one of the founders of the Ranthambhore Foundation, a non-governmental organisation that worked in almost one hundred villages around the Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve. 
  • He was someone, who at various points critical of the execution of Project Tiger, instituted by the Centre in 1972, to restore India's tiger dwindling tiger population through demarcating forest reserves and establishing tiger corridors.

  • Famed Nepalese Sherpa guide Kami Rita on Tuesday (May 27, 2025) scaled Mount Everest for the 31st time, breaking his own record for the most successful ascents of the world's highest mountain.
  • The 55-year-old climber leading stood atop the 8,849-meter summit at around 4 a.m. under stable weather conditions, according to Mingma Sherpa, chairman of Seven Summit Treks, the expedition organiser.
