Shashi Sinha Named as New Chairman of Broadcast Audience Research Council India
The board of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India elected IPG Mediabrands India CEO Shashi Sinha as the new chairman. He will take over from Punit Goenka, who served as chairman of the TV viewership measurement agency for the last three years. Sinha, who also represents the Advertising Agencies Association of India as its board member, has played a key role in the formation of BARC.
The Broadcast Audience Research Council India is a joint industry body founded by organisations that represent Indian broadcasters, advertisers, and advertising and media agencies. It is the world's largest television measurement science industry body.
Virat Kohli Retains His Position as 'Most-valued Celebrity'
Former India cricket captain Virat Kohli retained his position as the most valued celebrity in 2021 even though his brand value plunged by around 22 per cent to USD 185.7 million (close to Rs. 1,400 crore), according to Celebrity Brand Valuation Report 2021 released by Duff & Phelps.
This is the fifth consecutive year when the ace cricketer, who recently stepped down from captaincy in all formats of the game, topped the chart, said the latest edition of the Celebrity Brand Valuation Report.
Actor Ranveer Singh has pipped older peer Akshay Kumar to become the second most valuable celebrity in India with USD 158.3 million worth. Kumar is now ranked third with the brand value of USD 139.6 million.
Actor Alia Bhatt was at the fourth position, moving up two slots from 2020, with a brand value of USD 68.1 million. The Gangubai Kathiawadi actor entered the top five chart of the Celebrity Brand Valuation Report for the first time.
IFS officer Renu Singh Appointed Forest Research Institute (FRI) Director
Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, New Delhi appointed Dr. Renu Singh as Director of the premier Forest Research Institute, Dehradun. Dr. Renu Singh is an officer of Indian Forest Service of 1990 batch belonging to Madhya Pradesh cadre. Until now, Shri A. S. Rawat, Director General, ICFRE was holding additional Charge of Director, FRI as well. She holds M.Sc. Degree in Botany and Forestry as well as M. Phil in Botany from Meerut University, Meerut. She was awarded Ph. D. on "Gender, Participation and community forestry: The case of joint forest management in Madhya Pradesh" by the University of Wales, United Kingdom.
Dr Renu Singh has an extensive experience in Forest Policy, Forest Management and Research Issues. She has participated and represented various biodiversity, forest and climate change related issues in international conventions like United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

Former CM Of Sikkim B.B. Gurung Passes Away
The 3rd Chief Minister of Sikkim, Bhim Bahadur Gurung passed away at his residence in Lumsui in Gangtok, Sikkim. B. Gurung served as a teacher and a staff reporter in a Calcutta (Kolkata)-based newspaper the Amrita Bazar Patrika and he also edited the first news-based Nepali Journal of Sikkim, called Kanchenjunga.
Gurung started his political career with Sikkim Rajya Congress Party in 1947 and was later appointed as the General Secretary in 1958. He served as the 3rd CM of Sikkim from 11 May to 24 May 1984, the shortest term in the history of Sikkim. Between 2014 and 2015 he served as the political advisor to the CM of Sikkim.

Former Chief Justice of India R. C. Lahoti Passes Away
Former Chief Justice of India Ramesh Chandra Lahoti died. He was 81 years old.
Justice Lahoti was appointed as the 35th Chief Justice of India on June 1, 2004. He retired on November 1, 2005.
Hhe joined the Bar in Guna district in 1960 and enrolled as an advocate in 1962.
He was recruited directly to the bench in April 1977, from the Bar to the State Higher Judicial Service and was appointed as a district and sessions judge.

Mali's Former Prime Minister Passes Away
Mali`s former Prime Minister Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga, arrested over corruption allegations last year, died of an undisclosed illness in hospital. Maiga was detained in August 2021 over his suspected role in the purchase of a presidential plane during the rule of ex-president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, ousted in a military coup a year earlier.
Maiga, a former Defence Minister, was named Prime Minister in 2017 and resigned two years later, four weeks after a massacre of some 160 Fulani herders by an ethnic vigilante group shocked the West African nation.
Stephen Wilhite, Creator of the Animated GIF, Dies
Stephen Wilhite, the creator of the Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) format in the 1980s, died due to Covid-19 related issues. According to his obituary note, Wilhite is survived by his wife, four stepchildren, a son, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The internet has argued how to pronounce GIF over the years. When he received the Webby Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013, he put an end to the argument. It's pronounced "jif", he communicated using a GIF.

American Astrophysicist Eugene Parker Passes Away
American Astrophysicist Eugene Newman Parker, who contributed to solar physics, passed away at the age of 94. Eugene Parker witnessed the launch of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)'s Parker Solar Probe in 2018, the first NASA mission named after a living person, and became the first person to witness the launch of a spacecraft named after them.
Parker is a visionary in the field of heliophysics, which focuses on the study of the sun and other stars & he is well known for his theory on the existence of solar wind, a supersonic flow of particles of the sun's surface. He virtually created the field of heliophysics in the 1950s.
