Asian Games Double Gold Medallist Hari Chand Passes Away
Long-distance runner Hari Chand, who won two gold medals at the 1978 Bangkok Asian Games, passed away at his native village Ghorewaha in Hoshiarpur district. Chand won a gold medal at the 1975 Asian Championship in 10,000 m and a bronze medal in 5,000 m. Later, he won two gold medals at the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok in the 5000 m and 10,000 m events. He also participated in two Olympic Games in 1976 and 1980. Chand was also conferred with the Arjuna Award.
CM Bhagwant Mann expressed his condolences over the death of the athlete. Mann said that the double gold medalist from Hoshiarpur was the pride of Indian athletics and he would be a source of inspiration for the generations to come.

Painter-author Ravi Paranjape Dies in Pune
Renowned painter-author Ravi Paranjape died at a private hospital in Pune. He was 86. Paranjape also worked in the fields of architecture, publishing and advertising. Born on October 8, 1935, in Belgaum in Karnataka, Paranjape received numerous awards for his artistic and literary accomplishments, and also authored several books and articles on art as well as political and social reforms based on his theory of design-based culture.
Paranjape was perhaps best known for being an illustrator and commercial artist that led him to work with major brands and advertising agencies, as well as with architects and designers in rendering various structures and spaces. He also made his name as a painter, hosting many successful exhibitions, and later establishing his own foundation and art gallery to host his own exhibitions and those of other artists.

AR Rahman Appointed Ambassador of Indo-UK Culture Platform
Music Maestro, AR Rahman was appointed as ambassador of The Season of Culture, which marks the 75th anniversary of India's independence. It was officially launched, by Britain's Deputy High Commissioner to India Jan Thomson and Director (India) of the British Council Barbara Wickham. The Season of Culture aims to strengthen India-UK collaboration in the areas of arts, English and education.
Over 1,400 artists will showcase their collaborations to millions of audiences across India, Britain, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, through a wide array of arts such as theatre, dance, visual arts, literature, music, architecture, design, fashion, tech-art and new media art. For the first time in the world, an Indian has been named a Global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Pioneer for Water Stewardship by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). The United Nations Global Compact has named ten new SDG Pioneers, who are corporate leaders who are excelling in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by implementing the UN Global Compact Ten Principles on human rights, environment, labour, and anti-corruption.
Professionals working at any level in a firm engaging in the UN Worldwide Compact were targeted for the global search, with winners picked from every continent. Their work covers a wide range of topics, including climate mitigation and adaptation, as well as circular economy and digital transformation.
Virat Kohli Becomes the 1st Indian to Reach 200 Million Followers on Instagram
Indian cricket star Virat Kohli crossed the 200 million followers mark on the social media site Instagram. With this, he became the first Indian to have 200 million followers on Instagram. Kohli is also the third most followed sportsperson on Instagram. Portugal football star Cristiano Ronaldo tops the chart with 451 million followers, ahead of Argentina football captain and FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi with 334 million followers.
Kohli has been the most successful Test captain India has ever produced. After taking over the reins from MS Dhoni, he has led India in 68 Test matches and secured 40 wins at a win percentage of 58.82. Kohli has 27 centuries in Test matches and 43 tons in ODI cricket. He has not scored a century since November 2019. His last ton in international cricket came in a day-night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens.

MS Dhoni Becomes Brand Ambassador of Garuda Aerospace
Former Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni invested in Chennai-based drone startup Garuda Aerospace Pvt Ltd. The Chennai Super Kings captain has also been roped in as the brand ambassador of the startup that has about 400 drones and 500 pilots. Agnishwar Jayaprakash, founder CEO of Garuda Aerospace, said that it was a dream-come-true moment for him to see Dhoni as part of the Garuda Aerospace family.
Apart from serving over 750 clients, Garuda also partnered with Swiggy, HAL, DRDO, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, Make in India, Invest India, MIT Boston, Intel, Wipro and Cognizant to constantly innovate and explore new frontiers. According to the startup, their pilots are operating in 26 cities.
