BITS Pilani Launches New Innovation Centre

BITS Pilani inaugurated a specialised 'Rakesh Kapoor Innovation Centre' focused on entrepreneurship. The new centre was inaugurated at the main BITS Pilani campus.
This new Centre will be the home to the business incubator, Pilani Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Society (PIEDS), which was set up with the grant of Department of Science and Technology (DST), the institute said in an official release.
The centre will also possess multiple specialised labs in the area such as Internet-of-Things, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Fin-Tech Labs. It will also have space for administrative offices for professionals and faculty members involved in incubation activities.
Rakesh Kapoor, who studied at BITS Pilani from (batch 1980), donated $1.2 million (about Rs 10 crore) to BITS Pilani for the creation of the Centre of Innovation, which is the biggest donation the institute has received till date.

IIT Madras' Campus in Zanzibar to be Inaugurated in Early November

The offshore campus of IIT Madras in Tanzania's Zanzibar is set to be inaugurated in early November, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said. The minister made the announcement at an event to confer an honorary doctorate by Jawaharlal Nehru University on Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who was on a four-day visit to India.
This institute will prove to be a milestone in educational cooperation between two nations and continents by providing students from Tanzania and other African countries access to world-class engineering and technology education, which will help in nation-building and drive economic growth, technology, development, and research and innovation in Africa

International Conference on Doctoral Education in Design to be Held at World University of Design

Sonipat-based World University of Design will host the 15th International Conference on Doctoral Education in Design.
According to the World University of Design, the event, to be held on October 18 is being held in partnership with the Punjab-based RIMT University. The biennial conference is organised by the European Academy of Design (EAD) to reflect on what is needed to fuel the future of design education. The 2023 conference will be delivered over five one-day events in five cities in the world including Sonipat, Bilbao (Spain), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Espoo (Finland) and Glasgow (the UK). The conference, being held for the first time in India, explores doctoral design research and education and its role in defining agendas for the next 25 years.
Each of the five country hubs focuses on different themes: Beyond Human-Centred Design Research (Sonipat); The Discipline of Design – Transdisciplinary Practices (Bilbao); Living in the Pluriverse (São Paulo); Exploring the Social Impact of Design Research (Espoo); and Extreme Making (Glasgow).

Careers360 Faculty Research Awards Presented to 81 Research Scholars

A total of 81 research scholars from across the country were awarded with Careers360 Faculty Research Awards. The research scholars were shortlisted on the basis of their publication and citation counts and h-index.
Another 24 scholars were presented with the 'Commendable Faculty Awards'. The second edition of the Careers360 Faculty Research Awards also saw the release of a White Paper, Research in Indian Academic Institutions and top 1,000 researchers of India, containing the names and institutions of the top thousand researchers.
The awardees have represented India in international bodies and research collaborations and are recognised globally for contributions to the generation of knowledge.

IIT Madras, BHU Agree for Student Exchange, Shared Use of Research Infrastructure

The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras signed an agreement for student exchange programmes and use of research facilities. The agreement has been signed for a period of five years now and seeks to explore other opportunities of engagements to support students, faculty and research.
The agreement provides for exchange of PhD students between the two institutes by enabling them to spend up to one semester in the other institute for research activities. The understanding will pave the way for exchange of faculty members by facilitating them to spend up to six months in the other institute and carry out research.
The agreement signed by BHU Vice-Chancellor Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain and IIT Madras Director Professor V. Kamakoti seeks to aid in the formal interaction and collaboration between both the institutions.
IIT Madras and BHU also agreed on shared use of research infrastructure by their researchers and faculty members. The scope of collaboration will extend to a diverse field of study and research including in science, engineering, arts, medicine, agriculture, humanities and interdisciplinary areas.

UK University Launches the First MA Programme in Magic and Occult Science

The University of Exeter launched the UK's first postgraduate degree in magic and occult science. With a diversified array of modules, the course aims to unravel the history and relevance of magic in eastern and western cultures.
This innovative course is designed to delve into the history and impact of witchcraft and magic worldwide, exploring their influence on society and science.
The multidisciplinary course that draws from various fields, including history, literature, philosophy, archaeology, sociology, psychology, drama, and religion, shed light on the role of magic in both Western and Eastern societies.

Himachal Chief Minister Inaugurates Science Learning Centre in Shimla

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated a science learning centre at a cost of Rs. 11 crore.
The Centre for Science Learning and Creativity (CSLC) established near Shoghi in the suburbs of Shimla is equipped with 60 interactive science exhibits, thematic galleries and informatics displays, all housed within the institutional block.
This state-of-the-art institution is a joint endeavour of the Himachal Pradesh Council for Science Technology and Environment and the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM).
Fully funded by the state government, the new centre would revolutionise science education, particularly for students hailing from rural backgrounds.

IIT Madras Launches School of Sustainability

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) launched a School of Sustainability. It will teach new, interdisciplinary courses on sustainability, synergise research to tackle grand challenges, and provide a platform to host events and showcase technologies that can help drive both practice and policy. It will bring together faculty members from across departments and research centres of the institute.

26 JMI Researchers Feature in Stanford University's List of Top 2% Scientists Worldwide

A total of 26 of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) researchers featured in the list of the top two per cent scientists worldwide by Stanford University.
There are two lists which were released — one based on career-long data and another focusing on the performance of researchers in the year 2022. A total of seven professors were named in both lists — Ali, Imran Ahsan, Haseeb Ghosh, Sushant G. Rahman, Atiqur Ahmad, Sharif Ahmad, Tokeer Islam, Tarikul.
Eight professors were named in the 'career' list — Ali, Imran Ahsan, Haseeb Ghosh, Sushant G. Rahman, Atiqur Sen, Anjan A. Ahmad, Sharif Ahmad, Tokeer Islam, Tarikul.

IIT Madras Hosts Water Security and Climate Adaptation Conference

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) hosted a Water Security and Climate Adaptation (WSCA) conference from October 4 to 7, 2023 with a focus on Adaptation and Mitigation through Sustainable Development.
The conference was coordinated by the Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre (ABCD Centre) in the Institute. The focus was on highlighting the importance of sustainability in water-related problems and emphasising its need to scientists, engineers, policymakers, and industries.
The overarching objective of this conference was to exchange knowledge and practical know-how on the relationship between water security and adaptation to climate change with best practice implementation.

IP University to Give 'One-time Chance' to Students Who Couldn't Complete Degrees

As part of its silver jubilee celebrations, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University decided to offer a 'one-time chance' to the students who couldn't complete their degrees over the past 25 years.
This initiative demonstrates the university's commitment to supporting educational pursuits and providing opportunities for academic achievement.

Two IIM-Bangalore Courses Rank among Global top 50: QS Global MBA, MiM Rankings 2024

Two MBA programmes offered by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore were ranked in the global top 50 by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
The one-year Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP), which offered to working professionals, moved up three places from last year (2022) and ranked 47th rank with an overall score of 68. The programme scored well on the parameter of return on investment (94.7). IIM Bangalore performed amongst the top 14.8 per cent globally out of 318 programmes ranked by QS, this year (2023).
The two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) also featured in the top 50 in the QS MiM (Master's in Management) Rankings. The programme moved up five places from last year (2022). It obtained the 32nd rank with an overall score of 69.4. A total of 203 programmes were evaluated and IIM Bangalore performed amongst the top 15.8 per cent globally.
In QS MiM rankings, the core metrics are alumni outcomes, class and faculty diversity, employability, thought leadership and value for money.
