Book 'Prism: The Ancestral Abode of Rainbow' Released

  • National award-winning filmmaker-writer Vinod Mankara's new book was released from the rocket launchpad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The unique launch of 'Prism: The Ancestral Abode of Rainbow', a collection of science articles, was held at the SDSC-SHAR, as preparations were going on full swing there for the country's much-awaited Moon mission Chandrayaan-3.
  • ISRO Chairman S. Somanath released the book by handing it over to Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) Director S. Unnikrishnan Nair. SDSC-SHAR Director A. Rajarajan, Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) director V. Narayanan, former ISRO Director K. Radhakrishnan, and many other space scientists were present besides Lipi Publications Managing Director Lipi Akbar, the publisher of the book, during the function.
  • Published by Kozhikode-based Lipi Books, 'Prism: The Ancestral Abode of Rainbow' is a compilation of 50 interesting articles from various streams of science including space science, astronomy, biology, anthropology and mathematics. It covers various topics such as the James Webb space telescope, dark sky tourism, black hole confirmation, the dog Laika's first space journey and so on.

  • The fast-paced novel 'Dudiya: In your Burning Land', written by Sahitya Akademi award-winning Marathi novelist Vishwas Patil, translated into English by Nadeem Khan was released.
  • Set in Chhattisgarh, the book, originally written in Marathi, is a story of a spirited young Adivasi girl who challenges conventional norms both within her impoverished tribe and inside a Naxal camp by simply trying to live a life of dignity and independence.

Historian David Hardiman's New Book 'Non-Cooperation in India: Non-Violent Strategy and Protest'

  • After a book on the history of non-violent resistance in the Indian nationalist movement, historian David Hardiman's latest work takes his study forward to examine the culmination of the first surge of struggle — from its launch in 1920 to its end with Mahatma Gandhi's arrest two years later.
  • The book, 'Non-Cooperation in India: Non-Violent Strategy and Protest', was released. It is published by Westland Books.
  • The non-cooperation movement by the Indian National Congress (INC), organized and led by Gandhi, was the first mass movement organized nationwide during India's struggle for freedom.
  • Its aims were to force further concessions from the British government by organizing the boycotting of the legislative councils, courts and schools, and other symbolic acts.

Ramachandra Guha's Book Wins Elizabeth Longford Prize 2023

  • Historian and writer Ramchandra Guha's book 'Rebels Against the Raj: Western Fighters for India's Freedom' won the Elizabeth Longford Prize for Historical Biography, in 2023. Guha was awarded £5,000 (Rs. 5 lakh approximately) and a bound copy of Elizabeth Longford's memoir.
  • The Bengaluru-based historian's book tells the story of seven foreigners — four British, Two American, and one Irish — who joined India's freedom fight against British rule. The list of names includes Annie Besant, B.G. Horniman, Philip Spratt, Richard Ralph Keithahn, Samuel Stokes, Madeline Slade, and Catherine Mary Heilemann.
  • The award was founded in 2003 by Flora Fraser and Peter Soros to commemorate British historian Elizabeth Longford. Every year it rewards exemplary works in historical biography.

Book on Sidhu Moosewala 'Who Killed Moosewala?'

  • A new book gives a detailed account of the death and the subsequent investigation into the murder of Punjabi singer-rapper Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu -- popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala. 'Who Killed Moosewala?', was released, is written by journlaist-author Jupinderjit Singh. Published by Westland Books, it looks at the events of May 29, 2022, the day the Punjabi hip-hop star was shot by six armed assailants while driving to his aunt's house in a village in Punjab.
  • In the gripping and fast-paced book, the author closely follows the investigation into Moosewala's death and also offers us glimpses into the man he was behind the mask of celebrity. Besides the story of the slain singer and those behind his murder, this book is also a rumination on the growing unrest in Punjab.
