Thalapathy Vijay Wins Best Actor Award at Osaka Tamil Film Festival, Japan

Thalapathy Vijay is one of the most popular actors in the South Indian film industry with an illustrious career spanning more than 30 years. He started his career by working as a child artist in many films. The actor has a huge fan following in South India and has proven his acting mettle through various films. Now, he won the Best Actor Award at the Osaka Tamil International Film Festival held in Japan.
According to reports, the awards for the Tamil films released in 2021 were held, and Thalapathy Vijay was awarded the Best Actor Award for his performance in Master. The Tamil action-thriller film Master was released in 2021 and was directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The project had Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles.
Apart from Vijay, there were several other awardees at the film festival. The film Sarpatta Parambarai was chosen as the Best Film of 2021. Kangana Ranaut won the award for Best Actress for her performance in Thalaivii. Yuvan Shankar Raja was named the Best Music Composer for the film Maanaadu and Venkat Prabhu was awarded the Best Screenplay award for Maanaadu.

Education Ministry Discontinues Two Hindi Awards

The Union Higher Education Ministry discontinued the 'Shiksha Puraskar', launched by the Centre in 1992 for encouraging original writings in Hindi. The decision is part of the Union Home Ministry's move to rationalise various awards instituted by the Centre. The 'Hinditar Bhashi Hindi Lekhak Puraskar', an award given to promote writings in Hindi by writers from non-Hindi speaking areas, was also discontinued.
Under the 'Shiksha Puraskar', five awards worth Rs. 1 lakh each is given every year. The 'Hinditar Bhashi Hindi Lekhak Puraskar' carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.

PM Modi Conferred with the Highest Honours of Fiji and Papua New Guinea

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the highest civilian honours of Fiji and Papua New Guine. This came as PM Modi travelled to Papua New Guinea on a historic trip and attended the third Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) Summit.
The Indian PM was conferred with the highest honour of Fiji, the 'Companion of the Order of Fiji' by his Fijian counterpart, PM Sitiveni Rabuka, in recognition of his global leadership. Only a handful of Non-Fijians have received this honour to date.
Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae of Papua New Guinea conferred PM Modi with the country's highest civilian award, 'Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu (GCL)' for championing the cause of unity of Pacific Island countries and spearheading the cause of Global South. Former United States President Bill Clinton is among those conferred with the honour in the past.

WHO Director-General Presents Global Health Leaders Awards

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus presented two lifetime achievement awards to recognise outstanding contributions to advancing global health during the high-level opening session of the seventy-sixth World Health Assembly.
The Director-General's Global Leaders Awards, which were established in 2019, went to Jean-Jacques Muyembe-Tamfum and Peter Piot. Both recipients are distinguished scientists and public health leaders who were closely involved in the discovery of Ebola virus disease before advancing to leadership positions in global health. The award honours their lifetime achievements in public health.
Professor Muyembe-Tamfum from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) was recognised for his innovation, leadership and ground-breaking contributions to the management and treatment of diseases such as Ebola virus disease.
Professor Piot from Belgium was recognised for his extraordinary leadership in the response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic and other significant global health challenges.

Harrison Ford Receives the Palme D'Or Award at Cannes Film Festival 2023

Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford received an honorary Palme d'Or for lifetime achievement at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
Ford received the Palme d'or d'honneur as he was at the festival to launch Lucasfilm's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The veteran actor was visibly moved as he accepted a standing ovation and the special award presented by Cannes director Iris Knobloch.

Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran Conferred with France's Highest Civilian Award

Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran was honoured with the prestigious "Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur" (Knight of the Legion of Honour) by French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna.
Chandrasekaran was honoured for his substantial role in developing and fostering commercial links between France and India. The Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI), in collaboration with Business France, hosted the 5th edition of the Indo-French Business Awards (IFBA) and Grand Prix VIE, which witnessed the presence of esteemed guests, including H.E. Mr Édouard Philippe, former Prime Minister of France and Mayor of Le Havre.
Natarajan Chandrasekaran, popularly known as Chandra in corporate circles, was appointed as the Chairman of Tata Sons in 2017. Last year (2022), he received a five-year extension in his role. Chandra began his journey with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in 1987 as a graduate trainee after graduating from Trichy's Regional Engineering College. Over the course of his more than two-decade-long tenure at TCS, he steadily climbed the ranks and became the CEO in 2009.

'Gauri' Gets 'Best Long Documentary Award' at South Asian Film Festival

The documentary "Gauri", directed by Kavitha Lankesh, received the "Best Long Documentary Award" at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal 2023. The film is about journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh, who was assassinated in 2017, and the current political crisis in India.
The award citation describes the film as a courageous and uncompromising examination of the events surrounding Gauri Lankesh's murder, and praises Kavitha Lankesh's energetic direction and narration.
The documentary was commissioned by Free Press Unlimited, Amsterdam, an organization that upholds Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which advocates for freedom of expression and access to information.
The documentary "All That Breathes", which was nominated for an Oscar, was also in competition and received the runner-up prize.
