Maharashtra's First 'Udyog Ratna' Award Conferred On Ratan Tata

The first-ever 'Udyog Ratna' award instituted by the Maharashtra government was conferred on veteran industrialist Ratan Tata.
The award was presented to Ratan Tata chairman emeritus of Tata Sons by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar at the industrialist's home in Colaba, south Mumbai.
The honour comprised a shawl, a citation and a memento from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).

Ghana's Paa Kwesi Asare Wins 2023 BBC News Komla Dumor Award

Ghanaian TV presenter and journalist Paa Kwesi Asare won the 2023 BBC News Komla Dumor Award.
Asare is the eighth recipient of the award and the first to come from Ghana, like the late Komla Dumor.
Asare is currently the head of business news at Ghana's private TV3 channel, where he has worked for seven years as one of its main news anchors.
The award was created to honour Dumor, a presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41 in 2014.
He had worked tirelessly to bring a more nuanced African narrative to the world, representing a confident, savvy and entrepreneurial side of Africa.

NAFIS Gets Gold Award for Fool-proof Fingerprint Identification System

Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) team of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for winning the Gold Award under the Excellence in Government Process Reengineering for Digital Transformation Category-1 of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG).
Amit Shah said that this award for excellence in delivering e-governance is a recognition of the dedication the entire NAFIS team has put into creating a fool-proof fingerprint identification system, in pursuit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a secure India.
The NAFIS has revolutionized the fingerprint recognition system in crime control. With this system, the work of tracing the involvement of interstate criminals in crimes is being done with greater ease, accuracy and efficiency across the country.
NAFIS has created a central database of fingerprints of criminals, which can be accessed by users from all States, Union Territories and Central Agencies. This has resulted in a qualitative improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of the criminal detection and investigation process.

Kupwara Bags 'Best Performer District Award' under PMAY-G Convergence

In a remarkable achievement, frontier district Kupwara was conferred with the prestigious award for the "Best Performer District in UT of J&K under PMAY-G" by Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor, during a felicitation ceremony held at Srinagar under AWAS Mega Mahotsav.
Kupwara district received the award in recognition of construction of 4723 PMAY houses out of a target of 4902 houses for financial year 2022-23 and providing the other basic facilities to the beneficiaries under convergence.
The award was formally received by ACD Kupwara, Hilal Ahmad Mir in presence of Chief Secretary, Arun Kumar Mehta and Commissioner Secretary RDD&PR, Mandeep Kour.
Pertinently the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana -Gramin is successfully fulfilling the dream of several poor and vulnerable families having their own Pucca house in frontier Kupwara district.

Indian-American Economist Raj Chetty Gets Top Harvard University Prize

Prominent Indian-American economist Raj Chetty was awarded the coveted George Ledlie Prize for wielding big data to break myths about who achieves the American Dream and the obstacles faced by others.
Along with Chetty, Biologist Michael Springer, professor of systems biology at Harvard Medical School, who created a better, faster COVID test system to help deal with the spread of COVID, was also honoured with the coveted Harvard University's George Ledlie Prize.
Chetty, Professor of Economics at Harvard University is also director of Opportunity Insights, a group of economists based at Harvard who study inequality.
The award is bestowed "no more frequently than every two years to a member of the Harvard community who has made the most valuable contribution to science, or in any way for the benefit of mankind,

Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation, 2023

Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation for 2023 was awarded to 140 police officers.
The awardees include 22 women officers.
The medal was constituted in 2018 with the objective to promote high professional standards of investigation and recognise excellence in investigations. It is announced on August 12 every year.
The Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation for 2023 was awarded to 140 police personnel.
Among the awardees are 15 personnel from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), 12 from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), 10 from Uttar Pradesh, nine each from Kerala and Rajasthan, eight from Tamil Nadu, seven from Madhya Pradesh and six from Gujarat.
The remaining officers were from the other states, Union Territories and organisations.

Exiled Belarus opposition leader wins Swedish rights prize

Exiled Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya on Wednesday won a rights prize in memory of Sweden's assassinated foreign minister Anna Lindh for her "tireless" fight for democracy, the award's organisers said.
The Anna Lindh Prize, worth 100,000 Swedish kronor ($9,400), is given "to encourage primarily women and youth who, in Anna Lindh's spirit, show the courage to work against indifference, prejudice, oppression and injustice", according to the Anna Lindh Memorial Fund that awards the honour.
Tikhanovskaya, who claimed victory against Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko in 2020 presidential elections, has been in exile since the aftermath of the disputed vote, and lives in Lithuania.
