The International Maritime Organization (IMO) celebrates the annual Day of the Seafarer (DoS) on June 25 each year to pay respect to Seafarers and sailors who help the entire world function by conducting sea transport. 2021 marks the 11th anniversary of DoS. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, seafarers found themselves both on the front line of the global response and subject to difficult working conditions surrounding uncertainties and difficulties around port access, re-supply, crew changeovers, repatriation, etc.
The theme of the 2021 campaign is "Seafarers: at the core of shipping's future".
The day was proposed by International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2010 to celebrate the contribution of the seafarer to the world economy and civil society. This special day has been celebrated since 2011.

United Nations Public Service Day
The United Nations Public Service Day is celebrated every year on 23rd June with the aim to appreciate the value of public service to the common people. It highlights the contribution and role of public service in the development process all over the world.
The UN Public Service Day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly's resolution A/RES/57/277 of 2003.
This year (2021), the United Nations Public Service Day was celebrated under the theme "Innovating the Future Public Service: New Government Models for a New Era to Reach the SDGs".
International Olympic Day
June 23 marks International Olympic Day.
International Olympic Day is organised by National Olympic Committees (NOCs) on 23rd June to celebrate the foundation of International Olympic Committee (IOC), established on 23rd June, 1894 in Sorbonne, Paris.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) was found in 1894 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin and the first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896.
International Widows Day
International Widows Day is observed on June 23 every year to draw attention towards the voices of widows and highlight their problems. It is a United Nations (UN) ratified day of action to address the poverty and injustice faced by millions of widows and their dependents in several countries of the world.
The day was established by The Loomba Foundation to raise awareness about the matter of widowhood.
June 23 was chosen to mark International Widows day as it was on this day in 1954 that Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba, mother of Lord Loomba, became a widow.
The first International Widows Day took place in 2005 and was launched by Lord Loomba and Cherie Blair, the foundation's president.

World Hydrography Day
Observed annually on 21st June, the World Hydrography Day highlights the importance of hydrography and its relevance. This important day was approved and implemented by the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) as an annual celebration. This year (2021), the IHO is also celebrating the 100th anniversary of its formation.
This day was observed and recognised because of the initiative of Monaco-based International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) that was founded in 1921. This organisation serves the purpose of facilitating talks between governments on issues related to navigation, technical standards and protection of marine life.
Every year the World Hydrography Day is observed under a certain theme, which is determined by the member states of IHO.
The theme for 2021 is "100 years of international cooperation in hydrography".
International Day of Yoga
The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on 21 June since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in his UN address in 2014, had suggested the date of 21st June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.
On 11 December 2014, India's Permanent Representative Asoke Mukherji introduced the draft resolution in the United Nations General Assembly. The draft text received broad support from 177 Member States who sponsored the text, which was adopted without a vote.

Father's Day
Father's Day is a holiday of honouring fatherhood and paternal bonds, as well as the influence of fathers in society. In Catholic countries of Europe, it has been celebrated on 19 March as Saint Joseph's Day since the Middle Ages. In the United States, Father's Day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd, and celebrated on the third Sunday of June.
Father's Day is a recognised Public holiday in Lithuania and some parts of Spain, and was regarded as such in Italy until 1977. It is a national holiday in Estonia, Samoa, and equivalently in South Korea, where it is celebrated as Parents Day. The holiday complements similar celebrations honouring family members, such as Mother's Day, Siblings Day, and Grandparents' Day.
In India Father's Day is observed on the third Sunday of June (This year June 20). The event is not a public holiday. The day is usually celebrated only in bigger cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, New Delhi, Kanpur, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Pune and others. It is a huge holiday in the North Eastern state of Nagaland where prayers are held in church on Sunday Services.
World Refugee Day
World Refugee Day is an international day organised every year on 20 June by the United Nations. It is designed to celebrate and honour refugees from around the world. The day was first established on 20 June 2001, in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees.
The event aims to recognise the strength of the refugees who have fled the conflict and persecution of their country in hope of finding sanctuary and living a better life. World Refugee day builds the concept of understanding for their plight which shows one's resilience and courage in the rebuilding of their future.
The day is an opportunity for everyone to experience, understand and celebrate the rich diversity of the communities of refugees.
The theme for World Refugee Day 2021 is 'Together we can achieve anything'.

World Sauntering Day
World Sauntering Day is celebrated on June 19 every year. The purpose is to remind people to slow down and enjoy life as opposed to rushing through it. It is also sometimes referred to as International Sauntering Day.
The holiday was created in 1979 by W.T. Rabe in response to the growing popularity of jogging. It is believed to have begun at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan, USA The idea behind the day was to encourage people to slow down and appreciate the world around them.
World Sickle Cell Awareness Day
June 19th was officially designated as World Sickle Cell Awareness Day. The international awareness day is observed annually with the goal to increase public knowledge and an understanding of sickle cell disease, and the challenges experienced by patients and their families and caregivers.
National Reading Day
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) celebrates National Reading Day annually on 19 June. The Day is celebrated to honour the father of the 'Library Movement in Kerala', the late P.N. Panicker, whose death anniversary falls on June 19. In 2021, 26th National Reading Day is being celebrated. The week following June 19 will be observed as Reading Week and the entire month till July 18 will be observed as Reading Month.
The first Reading Day celebration was held in 1996. On June 19, 2017, Prime Minister launched the 22nd National Reading Month Celebrations and called for unity to spread the message of 'Read and Grow' among all the citizens of the country by 2022.
