Every year since 2002, World Science Day for Peace and Development is observed on November 10. This day is dedicated to the importance of science in keeping the fabric of society intact and flourishing. The COVID-19 pandemic made the world realize things that were actually important for the survival of humankind. For instance, people learnt the importance of helping each other for the better functioning of society.
The theme for the 2021 celebration is the importance of "Building Climate-Ready Communities." The objective is to bring science closer to society by highlighting some key scientific aspects and possible solutions provided by science, technology and innovation to combat some major global challenges society is facing today.
14th Edition of Cyber security Conference
Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat inaugurated the 14th edition of 'c0c0n', an annual Hacking and Cyber Security Briefing.
The conference, conducted by Kerala Police in association with two non-profit organisations, Society for the Policing of Cyberspace (POLCYB) and Information Security Research Association (ISRA), primarily discussed online scams and defenses during the lockdown period.
The theme of this year's 'c0c0n' is - Improvise, Adapt and Overcome.

Uttarakhand Foundation Day
Uttarakhand Foundation Day is observed annually on November 9 to celebrate the formation of the 27th state of India. Uttarakhand was formed in 2000 after joining several districts from the Northwestern part of Uttar Pradesh and a portion of the Himalayan Mountain range. It was earlier known as Uttaranchal, however, in 2007, it was renamed Uttarakhand. The year (2021) is the 21st Uttarakhand Foundation Day.
Also, known as the 'Land of Gods', the state has very rich natural resources including glaciers, rivers, dense forests, and snow-clad mountain peaks. It also has the four most sacred and revered Hindu temples also known as Char Dham of Uttarakhand - Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamnotri. The capital of the state is Dehradun. The name Uttarakhand has been extracted from the Sanskrit dialect which literally means 'northern city'. It was formed by the then Government of the Uttar Pradesh after a long struggle by the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, which focussed on the challenges faced by people in hilly regions, and demanded separate statehood.
National Legal Services Day
In India, November 9 is celebrated as "National Legal Services Day" every year by all Legal Services Authorities, to commemorate the enactment of the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987. The Day is celebrated to make people aware of the various provisions under the Legal Services Authorities Act and the right of the litigants. The aim of celebrating this day is to offer free of charge, proficient and legal services to the people belonging to weaker sections of society. It also seeks to make sure the availability of free services to weaker section people as well as making them conscious about their rights.
On October 11, 1987, the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 was enacted, while the act took effect on 9 November 1995. The day was started by the Supreme Court of India in 1995 to provide help and support to poor and weaker sections of the society. It was established with a mandate to offer help and support to a weaker and poor group of sections of people which may be women, disabled persons, Scheduled Tribes (STs), children, Scheduled Castes (SCs), human trafficking victims as well as natural calamities victims.

National Cancer Awareness Day
November 7 is observed annually as National Cancer Awareness Day in India to raise awareness about cancer, of which 1.1 million cases are reported in the country each year. National Cancer Awareness Day was first announced in September 2014 by then Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, with November 7 chosen for the occasion to coincide with the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Marie Curie, who was born on this date in 1867, and whose works led to the development of radiotherapy to treat cancer.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer is a leading cause of death globally, accounting for nearly 10 million fatalities in 2020. Cancer in lungs, colon and rectum, liver, stomach and breast, respectively, was the most common cause of death due to the disease, last year.

International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict
The International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict is an international day observed annually on November 6. The International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict was established on November 5, 2001, by the United Nations General Assembly, during Kofi Atta Annan's tenure as Secretary-General.
Of this observance Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has since written, "We must use all of the tools at our disposal, from dialogue and mediation to preventive diplomacy, to keep the unsustainable exploitation of natural resources from fueling and financing armed conflict and destabilizing the fragile foundations of peace.

World Tsunami Awareness Day
According to the UN website, after the deadliest Tsunami in the Indian Ocean in 2004, the UN General Assembly decided to declare November 5 as World Tsunami Awareness Day. The day has been observed continuously every year since December 2015. It is observed to create cognizance among people of the Tsunami, most importantly for the 700 million population living in low-lying coastal areas and islands.
