Jai Ram Thakur Launches App to Promote Local Handicrafts through Tourism in Kangra
With a view to provide a hassle-free experience for tourists and simultaneously boosting sale of local handicrafts, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched 'Apna Kangra' app and hampers handcrafted by self help groups at Dharamsala in the district.
He said that the motive of 'Apna Kangra' was to empower rural women and provide job opportunities to youth through tourism, while facilitating hospitality services such as hotels, homestays and transport to travellers.
While the app is bound to provide a unique experience for tourists on the one hand, on the other it will serve as an e-marketing platform for SHG products from the district.

Chennai International Airport Ranks 8th in Global List for 'On-Time Performance'
The Chennai International Airport is one of the top 10 large international airports in the world that ensures 'on-time' departures. In a review conducted by Cirium, an organisation that specialises in offering aviation data to travel, finance, aerospace, and aviation industries, the airport was ranked 8th for 'on-time performance' for the year 2021. According to the latest traffic figures of Chennai Airport, it has done recovery of 80 % in domestic traffic. It is the sixth busiest airport in India.
Besides that, Chennai airport is the only Indian airport to figure in the top 10 positions of the list. The first three positions have been bagged by United State's Miami Airport, Fukuoka Airport, and Haneda Airport in Japan.

Kochi Becomes the First City with Water Metro Project
Kochi became the first city with a water metro project as it launched the first in a series of battery-powered electric boats in the city.
The new project by the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd would likely have an integrated water transport system with 15 identified routes.
It would connect 10 islands along a network of routes that span 76 km with a fleet of 78 fast, electrically propelled hybrid ferries plying to 38 jetties.

The Government of India is planning to bring a new tourism policy. The policy aims to provide better facilities and services to the tourists visiting India. It will create five missions in the country.
The missions of the policy are:
National Green Tourism Mission: To bring sustainability in tourism
National Digital Tourism Mission: To digitize the tourism industry
Sectoral Mission on Skill Development: To provide qualified manpower and trained professionals to the tourism industry
National Mission on Destination Management: To provide coordination among public and private stakeholder
National Mission on Tourism MSMEs: To facilitate startups and MSMEs
Tourism Week was organised between January 3 and January 15, 2022.

Air New Zealand World's Safest Airline for 2022
Air New Zealand has topped an annual list of the safest airlines in the world for 2022 as coronavirus disease (Covid-19) continue to dominate the conversation around air safety. AirlineRatings.com, an airline safety and product review website, announced its top 20 safest airlines in the world and top ten safest low-cost airlines for 2022 from the 385 airlines it monitors.
Air New Zealand is a stand-out airline with a firm focus on safety and its customers and over the past 18 months.
Qantas was at the top position in the safest airlines in the world last year but slipped to seventh due to an incident at Perth Airport in 2018. The portal said that the report on the serious incident was not issued till late 2020, due to which it was left out from the 2021 safety rankings.
