The torch relay for the postponed Tokyo Olympics began its 121-day journey across Japan and is headed toward the opening ceremony in Tokyo on July 23.
The relay began in northeastern Fukushima prefecture, the area that was devastated by the 2011 earthquake, tsunami and the meltdown of three nuclear reactors. About 18,000 died in the tragedy.
The first runner with the torch was Azusa Iwashimizu, a key player in the Japan team that won the Women's World Cup in 2011.

Sports Ministry Extends Khelo Indian Scheme Extended
Sports Ministry has decided to extend "Khelo India Programme" from 2021-22 to 2025-26. Ministry has also furnished Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) memorandum to Ministry of Finance to extend the annual event.
As per the memorandum to Finance Ministry, an amount of Rs. 8,750 crore has been estimated as a financial implication of new Khelo India Scheme. This programme is being extended after considering how this initiative has played a significant role in building a sporting culture across the country.
Khelo India initiative was launched by Indian Government with the aim of building a sporting culture across the country. This initiative plays a significant role in grassroots development of several sports over the years. It organises structured sports competition with the aim of encouraging mass participation from youth. Apart from that, it also focuses on building athletes who can win medal for India at Olympics. The event is organised annually in January month usually.

Shreyas Iyer Signs Up With Lancashire for Royal London Cup 2021
English county Lancashire has announced the overseas signing of India batsman Shreyas Iyer for the 2021 Royal London Cup. Iyer becomes 6th Indian to sign for Lancashire. Iyer will arrive at Old Trafford on July 15 ahead of the start of the 50-over tournament and will remain with Lancashire for the duration of the month-long group stage. The top-order batsman is regarded as one of the most attacking and fluent stroke players in Indian cricket and he has played in 21 ODIs and 29 T20 Internationals for his country.
The signing of Shreyas Iyer signals the latest step in Lancashire's long association with Indian cricket, which stretches back more than 50 years when India wicketkeeper-batsman Farokh Engineer joined the county in 1968. He would go on to become a Lancashire legend and now serves as a vice-president of the club. Since Engineer retired, four other Indian players — Murali Kartik, Dinesh Mongia, VVS Laxman, and Sourav Ganguly — have represented Lancashire.
MS Dhoni-led CSK Unveils New, Camouflage IPL Jersey
MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings unveiled a new-look jersey for IPL 2021.
The jersey features camouflage as a tribute to the country's armed forces and it also has three stars atop the franchise's logo to denote the three titles won in 2010, 2011 and 2018.
The camouflage on the shoulders is bordered with gold bands that signify the high standards set by the team, both in terms of consistency and fair play -- CSK won the IPL Fair Play Award six times in 11 seasons.
Notably, this is the first time that the CSK have redesigned their jersey since the first edition in 2008.

New Tata Safari is Official Partner of IPL 2021
Tata Motors said that its flagship SUV, the new Tata Safari, will be the official partner for VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. This will be the fourth consecutive year of the company's association with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
As the tournament returns to India this year, the company is looking forward to leveraging this prestigious platform to showcase and drive engagement for its recently launched iconic brand - new Tata Safari, the company said in a statement.
The tournament will begin on April 9 in Chennai and will be played across six major cities including Delhi.

ISSF WC: India Win Gold in Men's Skeet Team Event
Indian men's skeet team comprising of Mairaj Khan, Angad Bajwa and Gurjoat Khangura on Monday won a gold medal in the ongoing ISSF Shooting World Cup in New Delhi.
The Indian team defeated Qatar 6-2 in the final to bring a gold medal for the country. The India women's skeet team settled for a silver after losing 4-6 to Kazakhstan in the final.
