Argentinian President Considers Hosting Entire Copa America

  • Argentinian President Alberto Fernández has said that his country would consider hosting the entire Copa America if Colombia is unable to co-host because of social unrest.
  • It was the first time an Argentinian official publicly acknowledged the possibility of hosting the full tournament, scheduled for June 13 to July 10.
  • "We can analyze organising all of Copa America in Argentina," Fernández told radio Diez.
  • Fernández' statements came as doubts emerged about Colombia's ability to co-host the tournament amid protests against the administration of President Iván Duque. The Colombian government insists it can.

AIBA announces USD 400,000 Prize Fund for Asian Boxing Championships

  • Barcelona's slow start two years ago doomed its European dream so this time it came out firing against Chelsea, scoring after just 32 seconds en route to a 4-0 victory and its first Women's Champions League title.

Ramesh Powar is Head Coach of Indian Women's Cricket Team

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed former Indian cricketer Ramesh Powar as the head coach of Indian Women's Cricket Team. The Indian cricket board had advertised for the post and received over 35 applications.
  • The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Madan Lal, Sulakshana Naik and RP Singh, interviewed the applicants and unanimously agreed on Ramesh Powar's candidature.
  • Powar will replace WV Raman, who was appointed the head coach of the India women's team in December 2018. During Raman's tenure, India managed to reach the finals of the T20 World Cup 2020. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side ended up losing the summit clash against Australia.

Serena Suffers Shock Loss in 1,000th Match

  • Serena Williams, playing the 1,000th Tour-level match of her glittering career, suffered a shock 7-6(6) 7-5 defeat by Argentina's Nadia Podoroska in the the Italian Open second round.
  • Playing her first competitive match in nearly three months, the 23-time Grand Slam champion twice came back from a break down but struggled on her first serve.
  • It was the American's 149th defeat in her 1,000 career WTA matches.

Nepal's Kami Rita Scales Everest for Record 25th Time

  • Nepalese climber, Kami Rita has scaled Mount Everest for the 25th time, breaking his own record for the most ascents of the world's highest peak. Rita first scaled Everest in 1994 and has been making the trip nearly every year since then. He is one of many Sherpa guides whose expertise and skills are vital to the safety and success of the hundreds of climbers.
