Nethra Clinches Gold at Gran Canaria Sailing

India's Nethra Kumanan won gold in the laser radial section of the Gran Canaria sailing championships, one of the European regional open events, held in Gran Canaria (Spain).
The 24-year-old finished first in three of the six races, garnering a total of 10 nett points. Beneyto Lancho of Spain came second while Martina Reino Cacho (Spain) emerged third.

Dwayne Bravo Announced Retirement from International Cricket

Trinidadian cricketer Dwayne Bravo, the former captain of the West Indies cricket team has confirmed his retirement from international cricket. He has played in all seven T20 World Cups and he has been a part of the West Indies team that won the T20 Title in 2012 and 2016. He has scored 1245 runs at an average of 22.23 and a strike rate of 115.38 and he has picked up 78 wickets.

New Zealand Beat England by 5 Wickets, Enter Final of T20 World Cup

New Zealand entered the final of the ICC T20 World Cup with a five-wicket win over England in a thrilling first semi-final.
Chasing 167 to win, Daryl Mitchell anchored the innings with a sensational unbeaten 72 off 47 balls, while Devon Conway scored a 38-ball 46. James Neesham smashed 27 off 11 runs to play a crucial role in the chase.

ICC Players of the Month for October

Pakistan's Asif Ali and Ireland's Laura Delany have been voted the ICC Players of the Month for October. Ali beat Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan and Namibia's David Wiese to the men's award, and Delany beat teammate Gaby Lewis and Zimbabwe's Mary-Anne Musonda to the women's prize.
Ali scored 52 runs without defeat across three matches for Pakistan in October at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, scoring at a strike rate of 273.68. Ireland captain Delany shone in their 3-1 ODI series win over Zimbabwe. The all-rounder flourished with bat and ball, scoring 189 runs at 63, and taking four wickets at 27.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) presents the ICC Player of the Month to recognise male and female cricketers who have best performed across all forms of international cricket in a particular month.

Sankalp Gupta Becomes India's 71st Chess Grandmaster

Sankalp Gupta became India's 71st Grandmaster by scoring 6.5 points and finishing second in the GM Ask 3 round-robin event in Arandjelovac, Serbia.
Sankalp secured the three required Grandmaster norms in just 24 days by playing three tournaments on the trot. In all three events, his rating performances were at 2599 and above.
The Maharashtra player also touched the 2500 Elo rating mark during the tournament.
To achieve the Grandmaster title, a player has to secure three Grandmaster norms and cross the live rating of 2,500 Elo points.

Rashid Khan Becomes Youngest Bowler to Take 400 T20 Wickets

Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan became the youngest bowler to take 400 T20 wickets during his team's crucial Super 12 encounter against New Zealand in Dubai. Martin Guptill became Rashid's 400th victim in T20 cricket. Rashid joined an elite list of cricketers as he picked up his 400th wicket in ongoing New Zealand vs Afghanistan T20 World Cup game. He is the 4th bowler to enter the 400 club after Dwayne Bravo (553), Sunil Narine (425) and Imran Tahir (420).
Earlier, Rashid had become the fastest bowler to register 100 dismissals in Twenty20 Internationals during a T20 World Cup 2021 match against Pakistan. Rashid has 103 wickets for Afghanistan and 93 scalps for Sunrisers Hyderabad while the rest have come for the teams he plays for in different T20 tournaments around the world.

Barcelona Fans Welcome New Coach Xavi Hernandez

Thousands of fans arrived at the Camp Nou to welcome Xavi Hernndez as Barcelona's new coach, hoping he can turn the club's fortunes around after a dismal start to its first season post-Lionel Messi.
Xavi, who thrived in Barcelona's side for several years when Paris Saint-Germain forward Messi was also in the same team, was officially introduced at a reception usually offered only to top players.
Xavi has signed a contract until June 2024.

T20 World Cup: India Ousted as New Zealand Clinch Semi-final Spot

India were sent packing from the T20 World Cup after a clinical New Zealand clinched a facile eight-wicket triumph over Afghanistan in their final Super 12 game to claim the last available semi-final spot.
India's slim hopes hinged on Afghanistan upstaging the Black Caps as that would have brought the Net Run Rate into equation and opened the doors for Virat Kohli's men.

Mountaineer Mohite Gets Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award

Maharashtra-based mountaineer Priyanka Mohite was bestowed with the prestigious 'Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2020' for her outstanding contribution in the field of land adventure.
Mohite, who hails from Satara district, received the award from President Ram Nath Kovind at a function in the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.
Mohite, who started out by trekking in Sahyadri ranges in western Maharashtra and rock-climbing, began summiting mountains from 2010.
In her 11-year mountaineering career, she has scaled the world's highest peak Mt Everest besides Mt Lhotse and Mt Makalu, among others.

Manika-Archana Win Women's Doubles Title in Slovenia

India's Manika Batra and Archana Kamath tasted their first major success as a pair by winning the women's doubles title at the WTT Contender Lasko.
The world number 36 pairing beat the 23rd-ranked combine of Melanie Diaz and Adriana Diaz from Puerto Rico 11-3, 11-8, 12-10. The India duo saved four game points in third set to seal the match.
Manika and Archana had to dig deep to beat China's Liu Weishan and Wang Yidi in the semi-finals.
