India Clubbed Alongside Uganda, South Africa and Ireland for U19 World Cup

  • India were placed in Group B alongside debutants Uganda, South Africa and Ireland for the ICC Under-19 men's cricket World Cup, set to be held in the West Indies across four countries from January 14 February 5, 2022.
  • A total of 16 teams will travel to the Caribbean to compete in 48 matches.
  • Defending champions Bangladesh, England, Canada and the United Arab Emirates form Group A while Group C comprises Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea.
  • Group D sees host West Indies, Australia and Sri Lanka. Scotland complete the tournament line up in Group D after New Zealand withdrew due to the extensive mandatory quarantine restrictions for minors on their return home.
  • The four host countries have been confirmed as Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago with 10 venues hosting matches.

Ganguly Replaces Anil Kumble as ICC Cricket's Committee Chairman

  • BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was appointed as the Chairman of the ICC men's Cricket Committee.
  • Ganguly replaced fellow Indian Anil Kumble, who stepped down after serving a maximum of three, three-year terms.
  • Going forward the ICC Women's Committee will be known as the ICC Women's Cricket Committee and will assume all decision making responsibility for women's cricket reporting directly to the CEC.
  • Johnny Grave, CEO of Cricket West Indies was appointed to the ICC Women's Cricket Committee.

Pakistan to Host ICC Champions Trophy 2025, US-WI to Co-host T20 World Cup 2024

  • Major cricket event will return to Pakistan after more than two decades with the country set to host the 2025 Champions Trophy, an ICC flagship tournament.
  • The ICC board awarded the hosting rights of the 2025 Champions Trophy to Pakistan, while picking United States and West Indies as co-host of the 2024 T20 World Cup. This will be the first ever global event hosted in North America.
  • India will get to host three ICC events in the next cycle, including the 2026 T20 World Cup and 2031 50-over World Cup, where the country will be co hosts along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh respectively. India will also host the 2029 Champions Trophy singularly.

ICC T20 World Cup 2022

  • Seven host cities have been announced for the ICC men's T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia with the final line-up for the event now confirmed.
  • The event which is scheduled to take place between 16 October and 13 November 2022 will see a total of 45 matches hosted across Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 Final will be hosted under lights at the MCG on 13 November 2022. The semi-finals will be hosted at the Sydney Cricket Ground and Adelaide Oval on 9 and 10 November, respectively.
  • Men's T20 World Cup 2021 champions Australia and runner-up New Zealand plus Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan and South Africa as the next highest ranked teams will gain direct entry into the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022.

VVS Laxman to Replace Rahul Dravid as National Cricket Academy Boss

  • The Indian cricket board (BCCI) persuaded former India batsman VVS Laxman to head the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
  • Laxman will take over from his former India teammate Rahul Dravid, who was appointed the chief coach of the Indian team, after the term of Ravi Shastri ended with the team's exit from the T20 World Cup.
  • Laxman has already quit as mentor of IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad and will also not be part of any commentary panel or write columns for newspapers to avoid getting into a conflict of interest situation.

Australia Wins its first T20 WC

  • Australia lifted their maiden T20 World Cup trophy with a commanding eight-wicket win over New Zealand in the title clash which was rendered one-sided by Mitchell Marsh with his blistering 77-run knock, at Dubai International Stadium.
  • Skipper Kane Williamson top-scorer for the Black Caps with his 85-run knock while opener Martin Guptill contributed 28 runs after Australia inserted them in to take first strike.
  • Opener David Warner's 38-ball 53 and Marsh's 50-ball unbeaten 77 meant that Australia overhauled the target of 173 with consummate ease in 18.5 overs.

Janette Brittin, Mahela Jayawardene and Shaun Pollock Inducted into ICC Hall of Fame

  • Cricket legends Janette Brittin, Shaun Pollock and Mahela Jayawardene were inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, the International Cricket Council announced.
  • Former England cricketer Janette Brittin played 27 Tests and 63 ODIs for England between 1979 and 1998, is among the greatest batters to have played women's cricket.
  • She is the highest run-scorer (1935 at 49.61), century-maker (five) and most-capped player (27) in women's Test history.
  • Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene played 652 international matches, comprising 149 Tests, 448 ODIs and 55 T20Is. Only India's Sachin Tendulkar played more international matches, pipping the Sri Lankan by 12 games.
  • Shaun Pollock played 108 Tests, 303 ODIs and 12 T20Is across 13 years after making his Test debut in 1995 against England. An all-rounder in the truest sense of the word, Pollock scored 7386 runs and took 829 wickets in international cricket, which is the seventh most of all time.
